ZZ Top - Goin' Down To Mexico Lyrics

I was on my way down to Mexico,
there was trouble on the rise.
It was nothing more than I'd left behind,
which was much to my surprise.
I turned around and lit a cigarette
wiped the dust off of my boots.
When up ahead I saw the crowd,
I knew it was no use.

I'ts been the same way for Oh so long,
it looks like I'm singing the same old song.

A fine and fancy man was he,
doing good things for the poor.
Givin' rides in his rockin' Eighty-eight for free.*
They could not hope for more.
When it came my turn he said to me,
"Have I seen your face before?"
I said, "Oh no, you must be wrong,
I'm from a distant shore.

So if you don't mind, I'll just move along
but it looks like I'm singin' the same old song."

A Nineteen Forty movie star
with a long forgotten name.
She was a sexy mess in her pleated dress,
still hangin' on to fame.
With forgotten lines she missed her cue
and left a glass of wine at home.
She was singin' the same song that I was.
Could we both be wrong?

So hand in hand we walked along,
each of us singin' the same old song.

Man, this music right here made my late teen years awesome! Cruising in my '66 GTO, toking on the El Primo and drinking COLD Budweiser in the can, man what a trip! One that I feel truly Blessed to have been a part of and this on 8 track tape and vinyl in my late 17's to 20's were the best years of my life. Headphones on and still smoking the El Primo and few cold ones takes me right back to the those summer nights in Midland, TX USA

  27. Z.... ....

Not being racist but early zz, i.e. 70s ZZ, was the right combination of white and black man blues mixed with some rock. None of the 'bluesmen' of today can touch the raw texas energy in these early albums. Well, imho.

    Z.... ....

It's texas blues man, I listen to them and I'm hearing Charlie Patton who was in point of fact the baddest bestest of texas blues EVER.

    Z.... ....

ZFlyingVLover Absolutely nothing conceivably "racist" in your observations. In fact, it says a lot about the stranglehold political correctness has on our ability to converse honestly these days that anyone should feel the need to point it out.

    Z.... ....

@Keith Schiffner That's funny since Patton was from Mississippi.

    Z.... ....

And let's not forget Johnny Winter, another Texan who played serious blues.

    Z.... ....

Forget your white rascist guilt; it is irrelevant to your critique....but then again, I am only 63 years of age....

  28. C.... C....

    fo real

  29. E.... P....

I second Uncle John's commment. can only add thanks for your dedication when you perform live also. never disappointed.

  30. S.... P....

The first album all the way to Tejas are my favorites. Not a bad song on any of the albums. I think during those early albums they recorded live, similar to Skynard.

    S.... P....

no synths, or styled guitars just pure three piece band. But of course I give them any right to come up with sparkling shows and enjoy the lime lights. The first three albums made it up for it by far in my eyes.

    S.... P....

You are right. They recorded everything live until El Loco. However, they did overdub some parts in. Like in this song, there are two guitars during the solo. Billy probably overdubbed the solo in after playing it live.

    S.... P....

@A B I was hoping that they would Wayne and popularity and we get to see the boys playing small clothes again and playing the 70 stuff but I don't think it'll happen

  31. F.... B....

Now playing on Freezknotable: Saturday Night Live in Las Vegas with Ryan T. Young on KKLZ "Goin Down to Mexico" ZZ Top (1971)
