ZZ Top - Backdoor Medley Lyrics

[I. "Backdoor Love Affair"]

Got to have you, baby, even
though you say that you don't care.
Got to have you, baby, even
though you say that you don't care.
Any way you want it,
settle for a backdoor love affair.

[II. "Mellow Down Easy"]

Jump, jump here, jump, jump there,
jump, jump, baby, everywhere.
Don't you mellow down easy,
babe, you got to mellow down easy.
Don't you mellow down easy.
Got to mellow down easy.
Don't you mellow down easy.
Got to mellow down easy, babe.
Don't you mellow down easy.
Got to mellow down easy.
Don't you mellow down easy.
Mellow down easy when you really wanna blow your top.

Shake, shake here, shake, shake there,
shake, shake, baby, everywhere.

[III. "Backdoor Love Affair No. 2"]

Baby baby baby baby, don't you want a man like me?
Uh-huh uh-huh, yes I do, yes I do.
Oh, baby baby baby baby, don't you want a man like me?
Uh-huh uh-huh, uh-huh uh-huh, uh-huh uh-huh.
Oh, I give you lovin' by the daytime,
night time you could take good care of me.

Baby baby baby baby, don't you want a man like me?
Uh-huh uh-huh, yes I do, yes I do.
Oh, baby baby baby baby, don't you want a man like me?
Uh-huh uh-huh, uh-huh uh-huh, uh-huh uh-huh.
Oh, I give you lovin' by the daytime,
night time she could take good care of me.

[IV. "Long Distance Boogie"]

Is everybody feelin' good? You makin' us feel good, too!
Now, early this morning I got on that long distance telephone
and I called my mama.
I said, "Mama, this is your boy, and I'm way down here in
New Orleans, Louisiana."
And she said, "That's all right, boy."
And she turned to my papa and she said,
"Papa, our boy's way down there in New Orleans.
We cannot let him stay out all night long."
She did!
Long about that time, I heard my papa lean toward my mama.
I heard papa tell mama, "Let that boy boogie-woogie."
He said, "It's in him and it's got to come out."

So I went downtown.
There's a lot of people there.
They was-a really havin' a ball.
And I felt so good.
Yes, I felt so good.
Yes, I felt so good.
Yes, I felt so good.
Yes, I felt so good.
Yes, I felt so good.
Yes, I felt so good.

Boogie, children!

Boogie, children!

This was the album that turned me on to them to begin with.

  14. Harry Dangler

Love the drunken Tarzan yell from an audience member at 7:54. First noticed it as a stoned teenager in 1975. Once you hear it, you'll always hear it.

  26. poekoelan75

The dynamics that Frank Beard has here is infreakingsane. Especially at that tempo. Unbelievable And the vocal trade offs. Wow.

    Jeff Baker

    Lightning in a bottle.

  27. Iron Hammer

ZZ Top invented thrash metal in 1975. I don't know anything as fast as this from that era.

    Patricia LAMBERT

Uh, try "Doctor Please" by Blue Cheer from 1968 if you want to hear proto-thrash metal. The only thing I can say about this is that Lars Ulrich would approve of Frank Beard's drumming here.

    Jeff Baker

@Patricia LAMBERT Blue Cheer were out of their minds. Killer stuff.

  28. dan at canyon lake

    Let that boy Boogie Woogie!!

  29. Winston Beech

I've been cranking the shit out of this opening for 42 years. Drives family nuts. I normally listen to my Nak TA3 amp at around 9 to 10 o'clock. Crankin stuff, gets 11 or 12 o'clock. Opening 10 seconds of Backdoor Medley... 3 o'clock. I even learned the chord, it's like a two note power chord but they've got so much amperage and dirt in it it sounds like a nitro dragster burnout. I have over 1000 records and CDs in my collection. This is the #1 cranker. Too bad it falls apart quickly. I don't care though.

You also need the song ahead of it (Jailhouse Rock) to set up for the intro, the track starts with no warning. When you hear the feedback at the end of Jailhouse, that's when you crank to 3 o'clock. Ok, if you have a car stereo, a cheap amp, or one of those piece of shit "500 watt" amps that weighs a pound and a half they sell at Bust Buy, don't do that. Unless of course you want to buy a new one. But if you have a clean amp and some speakers that can take it... let 'em have it.

    Neuren Pietersen

Winston Beech every word is true

He thinks he's real bad!! He thinks he's badder than Shaft, Superfly, James Bond and Kung Fu all put together tonight!! But I got news for'em. They dont call me the Texas homewrecker and heartbreaker for nothing.

    sonofahen
