Zombies, The - Is This The Dream Lyrics

Hey, hey, hey
I want to tell you something
So listen try to understand
Hey, hey, hey
If you continue to chase the sun
I'll never be your man

I'll count the times that I told you
You really shouldn't try
And I told you
Cause baby you'll just cry for a shadow
Believe me
Baby, baby, baby

Is this the dream you're crying for
Is this the dream
Is this the dream you're crying for
Is this the dream
Hey, hey, hey

I better warn you now
Someday you'll find yourself alone
Hey, hey, hey

And life's not pretty then
It's ugliness will hide the sun

I'll count the times that I told you
You really shouldn't try
And I told you
Cause baby you'll just cry for a shadow
Believe me
Baby, baby, baby

Is this the dream you're crying for
Is this the dream
Is this the dream you're crying for
Is this the dream

I'm going to do just how I feel
Don't try to hustle me the way I feel
Hey, hey, hey

I'll count the times that I told you
You really shouldn't try
And I told you
Cause baby you'll just cry for a shadow
Believe me
Baby, baby, baby

Is this the dream you're crying for
Is this the dream
Is this the dream you're crying for
Is this the dream

Is this the dream you're crying for
Oh you can't live with a dream
You can't buy with a dream, oh
Is this the dream
Is this the dream you're crying for

  1. P.... P....

Such nice boys! It's too bad they are undead.

  2. j.... g....

A fantastic song that I had on an album. A Zombies album back in the 70's.

  3. M.... J....

Took that Motown beat and kept it "roots," with no added horns or anything....just groove!

  4. M.... ....

I'm starting an all Micronesian Beatles cover band called "The Betels"

  5. k.... 3....

the Zombies is my favorite band ever with the Beatels

    k.... 3....

I JUST HAVE TO AGREE WITH BUT IT GOES 1. BEATLES 2. The Who 3.The Zombies 4.Kinks 5.Yardbirds Cheers!,HenryPonds"MEDAC" #LongLiveRock

    k.... 3....

the beatels are number 1with the Zombiesif you can do that, and the Kinks are in there somewhere

    k.... 3....

Henry Ponds I'd take the pretty things and small faces over the who

    k.... 3....

I love how everyone misspells the Beatles here. The Bea-tels. I like the sound of it.

  6. A.... ....

This is not the correct version of the song: check out the original single version and you'll hear that a few essential sounds are missing!

    A.... ....

yep, there are some screams in the verse.

    A.... ....

    Then upload the original

  7. M.... ....

    The zombies, so underrated too.

    M.... ....

Not by the Americans ... bigger in the States.than in the UK.

  8. r.... ....

Sooner or later the world will realise that The Zombies are the definition of music. You will remember this comment when it happens.

    r.... ....

    !!!... more sooner than later..:))...

    r.... ....

It was a lot sooner than that. As I stated that back in the late 70's. I had a 2 record set LP ON the Zombies. I always knew that they were talented, and ahead of their time. I didn't know if The World realized it then. But this particular group always had my vote. Dispite the fact they were underrated. Perhaps if they'd been managed differently. They'd might had a different outcome. No doubt about it The Zombies did possesse the music talent.

  9. f.... ....

Why am I hearing this kick ass tune for the first time? These fellows are so underrated! The more I listen the better they sound all these years later. So glad they're still performing & still sound fabulous.

  10. D.... W....

@Arne9089 I'm from there too. And I'm listening to this music as well!

  11. A.... E....

    Greetings from Knoxville TN :-))

  12. b.... 1....

They are the best ever :D

  13. z.... ....

@ronct p.s. the Beatles did play that song live, but it's common knowledge that as they became more experimental they played live less and less until they were really just a studio band. There's nothing wrong with that, but that's reality.

  14. z.... ....

@ronct i'm not a fan of these long internet debates, but i'll respond one more time. I think every song/band should be analyzed on an individual basis. Evaluation based on comparison leads to the belief that all bands should be doing the same things. That's just how i am; i think Son House's "Grinnin in your Face" is genius, and it's just him singing and clapping. Out of time and off key i might add. The value of a song is in it's effect/impact, not if it has a contemporary sound.

  15. r.... ....

@zombiesarebad67 - by compositional aspects - I was referring to the chord and melodic structure of the song. It sounds much like the music they made in 1964. They made good music in 1964, but I personally don't feel their music progressed much until they came back in the late 60's. I also guess that wasn't the Beatles live playing their later songs on the rooftop of Abbey Road studios in the film "Let It Be".

  16. z.... ....

@ronct okay, i do see what you're saying.... although "compositional aspects" is a little vague. What's creative, or "genius" is also debatable. I love the Beatles, but making every album sound radically different from the last and splicing tape with snippets from other songs is not the only way to be brilliant. Solid songwriting has got to count for something too. The Beatles had that, but in a very different way... their later songs couldn't really even be performed live.

  17. r.... ....

@zombiesarebad67 I never said the Zombies weren't good musicians. I was commenting more on the compositional aspects of the song. The sound of most groups had progressed during those years, but it doesn't sound like the Zombies did (IMO). I suspect that is why they fell out with listeners here in the states. For example: the Beatles went from "I Want to Hold Your Hand" to "Eleanor Rigby" during those same years. Now that is what I would call genius.

  18. z.... ....

@ronct as a musician and a songwriter, i gotta say that i disagree completely. First off, "She's Not There" is a milestone song, and most people look at it as such. They may have had "a sound," but i don't see how that makes them limited. A lot of bands strive to get "a sound" and can't. The musicianship was top notch, arrangements were creative, the chords were complex. I guess i just fail to see where you're coming from.

    z.... ....

zombiesarebad67 they totally have that special unique sound so hard to achieve

  19. r.... ....

@zombiesarebad67 - This song would have been more genius in 1964 but not progressive at all for 1966. Music was changing so fast back then. This sounds more in line with the "She's Not There" era. I like the Zombies but they were limited in their sound and songwriting abilities.

  20. z.... ....

@ryanstevens11 refer to my initial statement. Just my opinion.

  21. r.... ....

@zombiesarebad67 so you're saying every zombies song was genius? Just for the record my favorite two bands of all time are the beatles and the zombies

  22. z.... ....

@ryanstevens11 the beatles were genius songwriters, but i don't think every one of their songs were genius. Some of their early stuff was catchy and cool but hard to classify as "genius."

  23. r.... ....

    @zombiesarebad67 Ummmmmm. the beatles?

  24. S.... ....

I somehow missed this song back in the day. Not bad!

  25. z.... ....

the zombies are the only band i can think of that never wrote a song that wasn't genius.

  26. c.... ....

My favorite song by the Zombies. I like this song!

  27. P.... B....

Great song, but this stereo version is missing the backing vocals (possibly those were recorded directly on the mono master!) and the solo lacks the impact that it has on the mono version, because it's in only one channel. But nice to hear it all the same.

  28. J.... ....

    Hey hey hey!

  29. p.... ....

While the prefab 4 did start out as a media gimic, they became a decent band. Check out "Goin' Down" by the Monkees.

  30. j.... e....

If anything the Monkeys sound like them.
You are talking about a great & legitimate musicians, not the buubble gum music of the Monkeys.
Pls do not insult one the gretest of all times - ZOMBIE giants !!

  31. I.... ....

A good song, but this was one of those singles with a superior flipside. "Don't Go Away" could've been a huge hit if they had made it the A-side instead.

  32. n.... ....

This song is growing on me? But does it mean I can't have dreams and Colin too?

  33. Y.... ....

The Zombies are definitely one of my favorite bands... And this is one of my favorite songs by them! Thanks for the upload!

  34. A.... S....

    Great Song! Love The Zombies..Thanks

  35. B.... ....

Awesome song, great to hear these unusual ones.
