Zevon, Warren - Jesus Mentioned Lyrics

I'm going down to Memphis
Memphis, Tennessee
I'm going down to Graceland
Thinking about the King
Remembering him sing
About those heavenly mansions
Jesus mentioned

Can't you just imagine
Digging up the King
Begging him to sing
About those heavenly mansions
Jesus mentioned

He went walking on the water
He went walking on the water
He went walking on the water
With his pills

Can't you just imagine
Digging up the King
Begging him to sing
About those heavenly mansions
Jesus mentioned

he who is without sin, cast the. first stone...

They call Presley the "King of Rock n Roll". WHY in the name of Common Sense?!?!? He never wrote his own songs, never produced his own records...he could play the guitar...VERY basically only... Warren Zevon IS the consummate musician....played SEVERAL instruments ADEPTLY...literally a genius (IQ 2 points HIGHER than EINSTEIN'S ) toured on a financial shoestring, yet turned out AMAZING shows night after night....a true Renaissance Man. Presley was absolutely NOTHING but a voice, a face...and he had the phenomenal good luck to hit the music scene at the perfect time, when people were starving for something..
...ANYTHING...to replace the Crooners. AND he had Colonel Tom, who did EVERYTHING FOR him but breathe... SERIOUSLY?!??!? "King of Rock n Roll", and Warren Zevon isn't even in the frickin' R&RHOF??? Talk about a travesty! Elvis...KING??? Well, I'll give the spoiled, pampered ,psychotic dumbass THIS much: he DID die on the "Throne"....ZEVON LIVES FOREVER...GOD of Music, Irreplaceable Legend... Everybody knows Gods and Legends never die....and ZEVON IS BOTH!!!! Rock the Pillars of Heaven, Mr. Bad Example!! Elvis was NOTHIN' compared with YOU!!!!

    B.... ....

not to mention he was best buddies with david Letterman😀

  3. R.... B....

    nice intro..maybe I'm rash..nah, still faking it..

  4. B.... E....

    B.... E....

  5. M.... C....

Are we not all addicted to something, its just a song by singers who where just men ,they have come and gone ,no more no less, both my fave artist of addiction and song !

    M.... C....

    Bless you.

  6. E.... H....

I crush on Warren Zevon :)

  7. b.... ....

huge Warren fan for a long time, first saw him at the Main Point, 1976. Don't care for this song or the video. Warren had more talent in his left toe, than Elvis had in his whole fat body.

    b.... ....

KAT Harper here. I'm afraid I can't agree with Bruce55. I think Circumpunk got this video right: simple, evocative. And there is no such thing as an imperfect Zevon song. But that's just my opinion....and I'm right! lol

    b.... ....

My father saw him there also around the same time. I have the the whole set on cd. From 1976 .

    b.... ....

Elvis was great Warren was a God.

    b.... ....

@kevin Mcdonald You are absolutely correct, Sir, with one tiny correction: Warren IS a god. Talent such as his is immortal.

    b.... ....

bruce55 Fuck you he had more money, talent and hottt ladys than you dumb fuck

  8. d.... t....

    i sure miss my friends.

  9. C.... ....

    R.I.P. indeed.

  10. M.... C....

And ten years today since Warren's death.

    R.I.P., Warren.

  11. T.... W....

    Gone a decade today. dammit

  12. A.... T....

Does anyone here know the Elvis tune that sounds like a Doors rock tune. Only heard this tune once in a bar where a female claimed it was Elvis. Did Jim Morrison ever sing like Elvis in a song?

    A.... T....

Frequently. One of his influences for sure.

    A.... T....

    Roadhouse blues?

  13. A.... T....

Yes, and trying to justify it in so many ways until he hit the porcelain.

  14. A.... T....

Drapped over the toilet. A fine way to exit.

    A.... T....

    is there a good way?

  15. b.... j....

Common rationalization of drug addicts..same one that killed most of my family.God bless those doctors who wrote the scrips and the drug companies who profit from selling death to middle class white folks with good insurance. They gonna need some kinda blessing to keep them from burning....welcome to America.

    b.... j....

I don't think your solitary blessing will be enough to pay the vig on that debt.

  16. T.... ....

i loved BOTH your stories...I saw Elvis twice...but I never met him...
but I did get to meet my hero,Allen Collins from Lynyrd Skynyrd...he wrote Freebird-
which reminds me of another Warren song..'Play it all night long'-

  17. C.... ....

    Great comment. Thanks!

  18. C.... ....

Dr. Nichopoulos was a liar. Elvis was a victim of his own addiction. I think that was Warren's point. I'd laugh if it didn't hurt so much.

  19. A.... T....

"According to his main physician, Dr. George C. Nichopoulos, Presley "felt that by getting [drugs] from a doctor, he wasn't the common everyday junkie getting something off the street."[221]" Wikipedia.

    A.... T....

Yep, a pill-poppin' southern hick that got lucky. LoL

  20. S.... T....

Lol... Long live the " king"

  21. R.... ....

Thanks for this upload mate. Super song, great to hear in HQ sound.

  22. N.... L....

/rwest in peace ol buddy, and you too "the king" :-)

  23. r.... ....

The song is amazing. Bitter and loving, sardonic and sad, it mocks, yet understands star-worship. The music is ethereal. One thing it is not, is a "joke."

    r.... ....

compex. people to do not understand complex. maybe you do. cheers.

  24. C.... B....

Great sarcasm......and the video was good except going a bit too far with Elvis pictured as the Sacred Heart. Uh-uh.....that's rather blasphemous and offensive. Ya gotta draw a line
somewhere. But the line, "he went walkin' cross the water, with his PILLS." HAHAHA
Warren Zevon was known for his dark humor......this is a great example.

  25. s.... ....

    One fucking awesome talent!

  26. T.... ....

hey warren... you remember that time... you sang about desperadoes under the eaves... "yeah" .................that was awesome

  27. C.... ....

Actually as I understand it this song is a direct reference to King's book. I haven't read it so I don't know fer sure.

  28. C.... B....

No need to "dig up the king'............They Gotta Helluva Band Over There..........HAHA.
The latter is a short story by the KING - Stephen King. How ironic.

  29. C.... B....

P.S. Okay, this is totally absurd.....I mean, the song is brilliant, but too many people act
or perhaps believe that Elvis was Jesus. The video is sacriligeous where it shows dope Elvis
as the Sacred Heart. No, no, we reap what we sow. Don't go there. That's like breaking
the 1st Commandment, "Thou shalt not have false gods before me." Jeez, why not just
    worship a golden calf? HAHAHA

  30. C.... B....

I don't get it...I love everything Warren Zevon's done, but seeing as Presley was never a
big deal to me; I'm still trying to decipher this song. HA! I like 'rockbob's' comment........abit
more reality based. Humoristic. De pill poppin' Southern dude that got lucky....but his
    choices were chemically based. Period.

  31. A.... T....

    Did the fans kill him?

  32. N.... H....

Can you narrow it down just a little?
What you may think is unkind I may think is straight talk.

  33. F.... L....

he went walking across the water (with his pills)

  34. C.... ....

@kabirpour I didn't know that. These pics are of Elvis's funeral. Thanks for the info. I like learning all I can about Warren.

  35. N.... G....

    @Circumpunk Warren was cremated.

  36. C.... ....

@PowerfulPunch Thanks for your story. I have several WZ uploads and on every one fans tell me the story of their encounters with the man. he was a very remarkable guy and I miss him a lot. Thanks again PP.

  37. P.... ....

Love your story. WZ came to Manchester NH and played in a bar that got its liquor license pulled. There werent many people there to say the least but I didnt drink at the time so I didnt care. He hung out after the show for a meet and greet. I felt like Chris Farley interviewing Paul McCartney on that skit on SNL. Tongue tied and awestruck.

  38. b.... ....

@mrstevielovestv man that's a great story. you're lucky to hang with him. very cool.

  39. C.... ....

@MrECLECTICIAN As long as it video and not smellavision....

  40. M.... E....

  41. M.... E....

Can't you just imagine Digging up Warren, begging him to sing, with Steven King none the less... I think he might appreciate the thought.

  42. j.... ....

    Very Nice !

  43. B.... G....

  44. C.... ....

  45. N.... ....

    Ann-Margret shoulda married E.

  46. C.... ....

@weeeeoooow He's a fucking liar, there have been and only will be two Elvi...hahahaha!

  47. C.... ....

@mrstevielovestv Sorry for the delay in response. I just read what you said about WZ. What a cool story. I am getting a lot of these with each WZ song I upload. What an extrordinary star Warren was.

  48. w.... ....
