Zevon, Warren - Bill Lee Lyrics

You're supposed to sit on your ass and nod at stupid things
Man, that's hard to do
And if you don't, they'll screw you
And if you do, they'll screw you, too

When I'm standing in the middle of the diamond all alone
I always play to win
When it comes to skin and bone

And sometimes I say things I shouldn't
Like....
And sometimes I say things I shouldn't
Like....

I miss em. Im a rabid Red Sox fan but the Expos were my National League Team. Got screwed in 94. Would have been a dynasty maybe.

Comparing Zevon to Mozart is interesting. Once when I was drunk I decided that he was the reincarnation of John Wilmot, Lord Rochester. I still think it now when I'm sober too. There are just too many similarities.

mozart seems like stretch, I would say maybe boccherini fits better since he seemed to write mostly for himself, could tell a fantastic story through his music and was realtively obscure in spite of his ability to really go deep without sounding overly complex. Mozart was too much pop, he was the pinnacle of the classical era, which was mostly music for the aristocracy to dance to and feel cultured about. Zevon would have been more of a romantic era guy. ( If you don't know boccherini, think of the scene in master and commander where they are playing together in the captains quarters)

I thought he meant Bill Lee aka Wm. Burroughs...sorry.

I'm not sure we will be gifted with a wordsmith the likes of this again in my lifetime. I feel gifted to have been born within his lifetime and blessed by having the privilege of watching this modern day Mozart craft his art and describe the human experience through such beautiful blending of prose and tune. All true music lovers mourn the loss of such a rhythmic genius. Warren, your ride's here.

when I was 11 I had Bill Lee sign my father's copy of Excitable Boy, before this even came out. I think my dad read somewhere those guys hung out or something and thought it would be funny.
    I still have the LP.
