Zappa, Frank - Penguin In Bondage Lyrics
Thank you. (Brian, I could use a little bit more monitor). Hello hello (can't you turn it up any more than that?) Hello hello... Hey! Alright! Pardon me, folks. The name of this song is "Penguin in Bondage," an' it's a song that, uh, deals with the possible variations on a basic theme which is... well, you understand what the basic theme is. And then the variations include, uh, manoeuvres that might be executed with the aid of, uh, extra-terrestrial gratification and devices which might or might not be supplied in a local department store or perhaps a drugstore but at very least in one of those fancy new shops that they advertise in the back-pages of the free press. This song suggests to the suggestible listener that the ordinary procedure, uh, that I'm circumlocuting at this present time in order to get this text on television, is that, uh, if you wanna do something other than what you thought you were gonna do when you first took your clothes off and you just happened to have some DEVICES around... then it's, it's not only okay to get into the PARAPHERNALIA of it all but... hey! What did he say? Ready?
She's just like a Penguin in Bondage, boy
Oh yeah, Oh yeah, Oh...
Rennenhenninnahenninnenninahennn
Of the bed (Knirps for moisture)
Just like the mighty Penguin
Flappin' her eight ounce wings
(The Penguin Flap)
Lord, you know it's all over
If she come atcha on the strut & wrap 'em all around yer head
Flappin' her eight ounce wings, flappinumm
Shake up the pale-dry
Ginger ale
Tremblin' like a Penguin
When the battery fail
Lord, you must be havin' her jumpin' through a hoopa real fire
With some Kleenex wrapped around a coat-hang wire
She's just like a Penguin in Bondage, boy
Oh yeah, Oh yeah, Oh...
Rennenhenninnahenninneninahenn
Howlin' over to some
Antarcticulated moon
In the frostbite nite
With her flaps gone white
Shriekin' as she spot the hoop across the room
(Everytime she sees the hoop)
You know it must be a Penguin bound down
Birds around
She's just like a Penguin in Bondage, boy
Oh yeah, Oh yeah, Oh...
She's just like a Penguin in Bondage, boy
Oh yeah, Oh yeah, Oh...
Rennenhenninnahenninneninahennnn
Aw, you must be careful
Not to leave her straps
TOO LOOSE
'Cause she just might box yer dog
She just might box yer doggie
An' leave you a dried-up dog biscuit...

Zappa, Frank Penguin In Bondage Comments
CAROLINA PANTHERS FKN RULE
The special one!!! Just awesome,if you can relate....
I loved this song from the first I heard it. I don't know what the guitar effect is on Frank's solo but it is so "liquid" it just goes right to the heart and the bluesy riff beneath it all is perfect.
Frank was just so Damn Good.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YES! TY for posting! I have a version from the Mothers on MOTHERS day --- I d love to post that 28 min delight :)
This song is a great pick-me-up when you're all alone in a safehouse in the middle of nowhere Wyoming and you've been accused of the attempted assassination of a Russian counterintelligence agent, and your girlfriend thinks you don't call her because you're cheating on her with a Norwegian park ranger named Elsa or Boobie.
Thanks for sharing.
Worked for me too when I was caught molesting an ocelot in the late 80s.
@Wanderlustus You know it, brother.
So, you were in a wilderness area with guns and a boom box, and failed to understand that other campers didn't appreciate your presence?
Listened to it hundreds of times. Coolest EVER!
3:56 best Wah Wah ever
One of the favorite albums in my youth in the 70ies, still love it. Those were the days .....
It's a great album. Got to see Dweezil do the 35 anniversary at the Roxy. Franks music never gets old.
DEVICES!

ZJust great.

Fond memories of my parents introducing me to this song when I was a teenager. Frank was a king of creativity. I wish I would have seen him live but I was only 5 when he passed away.
Also I freaking LOVE this into. Such a Vonnegut/Slaughterhouse Five inspired intro.

My very first BF who stole my maidenhead played this song all the time. He loved Zappa and hashish. ...wonder where he is.....I never "got" this song until years and years later. Still don't get some of it....but I agreed with said ex that there was something rather wistful and beautiful about a lot of Zappa's material. I, of course, being a teen, would always ask him to play his bass guitar to the music I was fond of at the time....which he said it was boring as hell. (he was right). I begged him to play the bass riff for "Disco Inferno" which he tried for about 3 minutes and said "I can't keep doing this, it's the same thing over and over for 9 minutes". ...(looks off into space) He had two Edsels. He had a tank full of piranhas in the livingroom. I must see what he's up to if he's still alive. He tried to teach me to drive a stick on a 5-window 53 Chevy truck. Going uphill!!! Made me cry. Taught myself later in a different car, not going uphill.
"Son of Orange County" & "More Trouble Every Day"weren't the only audio from the 4-track Edinboro State College that was used on the album. On this very song, FZ edits from the 16-track Roxy tapes to 4-track Edinboro at 2:49 then 14 seconds later edits back to the Roxy audio at 3:03.
After listening to the song so often, I still wonder how Zappa had the intuition to know where/when all the best performances were, and to edit them together, sometimes months or even years apart.
@John Bidochka: that's amazing, how did you know that? When I listened to it the first time, I thought, "No way, this guy's just showing off." Then I listened again, and you can hear the tempo get very slightly faster at 2.49 and drop back at 3.03. I've been listening to this track for decades and never noticed! It's a phenomenal edit. Did you have access to the master?
Best Zappa guitar solo ever at 3:10.
Genius!
Don't get any better than this..
first track duplicated
for some reason this was in my head All Day,,,and at night I couldn't find the CD (they are never in their proper cases)...

You left out 1 "n".
One of music's greats. Love Frank, wish very much I had gotten to see him live.
2:57 Beatles reference? (Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite)
Boing, and then cuts off, but still i think the best period for Zappa!

Outstanding solo on this version!!
What's the deal with it getting cut off at 6:48? The copy I've got also does that. I looked up this vid because I was hoping it wouldn't happen again. I want to know what the rest of the song is :(
@Apostrophe Awesome! Thanks!
Talk about a creative blues song.
I found this video searching for: "Knirps for moisture" LOL ARF .. . .. . .
<3 this song, such a great intro :)
It's not only ok to get into the paraphernalia of it all but... but what?!
haha nice, good job :D
Would you believe it! At 0:33 (when Zappa says "Maneuvers that might be executed ...") my old vinyl album R & E shows a double sequence of that phrase although the record has no scratch. Thanks to your upload I now have an uninterrupted version of that title - well done!
the greatest!!! this was my first album i bought in yugoslavia and smuggled back to czechoslovakia - i have become an instant hero...
It truly one of my favorite Zappa albums. The part that I get goosebumps from is the song transition from "I cant believe your such a fool to Trouble coming everyday! Chester Tompson shreds it. This is ZAPPA.
Haha, your right, I love that.....
Love it!!!
