Zappa, Frank - Oh No Lyrics

Oh no, I don't believe it
You say that you think you know the meaning of love
You say love is all we need
You say with your love you can change
All of the fools, all of the hate
I think you're probably out to lunch

Oh no, I don't believe it
You say that you think you know the meaning of love
Do you really think it can be told?
You say that you really know
I think you should check it again
How can you say what you believe
Will be the key to a world of love?

All your love
Will it save me?
All your love
Will it save the world
From what we can't understand?
Oh no, I don't believe it

And in your dreams
You can see yourself as a prophet saving the world
The words from your lips
I just can't believe you are such a fool

Zappa, Frank Oh No Comments
  1. F.... ....

Just FYI, the reason OCLT is twined with Oh No! is because the scorned lover of the latter is from Orange County. Carry on.

  2. A.... S....

Prequel to Steely Dan's " Only a fool would say that"

  3. G.... B....

Snake, I will always love you. True love forever.

  4. S.... S....

Weasels is a big favourite. Wish Frank could have lingered in this phase for longer. Loved his guitar playing at this point, and Ray had a terrific voice. There was just enough great musicians to make it more than just a good rock n roll band. Add Aynsley on drums and it would have been perfect.

  5. F.... ....

    3:28 Ramp it up!!!

  6. A.... B....

Ray Collins, amazing, stratospheric voice !!

  7. A.... B....

Very good compilación by Zappa and "The Mothers of Invention" (1966-1969)

  8. P.... d....

    The best album cover ever

    P.... d....

I remember seeing the vinyl edition in a second hand record shop and it stopping me dead in my tracks. Such an amazing image.

  10. R.... O....

i was shocked when i heard this lumpy gravy track-with vocals for the first time

  11. v.... ....

If more of Zappa's music was like this, I'd be ALL OVER his catalog. Unfortunately, he threw so much garbage-dogshit into the mix that it's a treacherous terrain to mine. The diamonds in the rough, however, are simply amazing.

  12. J.... B....

Lucky to see the Mothers with Ray in NY '67

  13. .... ....

    My favorite FZ song

  14. P.... M....

Best version of oh no, and the mixing into lumber truck brilliant, I love the son of orange county line in it, stuck in my head for years before I found the song again not that long ago on the Roxy album, that's my favourite ever Zappa guitaring, and the drumming is on point too 👍✌️

  35. J.... g....

I only found out recently that This was a dig at John Lennon, they had a disagreement over live material recorded when playing together was released by Lennon and Spector unknowingly to Frank Zappa,I don't know if this is a direct result from that incident but the song is about John Lennon,oh no i don't believe it that you think the meaning of love,do you think it really can be told being the first line lol, Nice subtle dig Frank ha

    J.... g....

This was recorded in 1969/70, the Lennon thing was in the mid 70's.

    J.... g....

This was recorded in 1968 at the Festival Hall London (vocal version of "Oh no" replaced the original instrumental version at the concert).

  36. n.... ....

Without a doubt, this is one of Frank's greatest.

    n.... ....

ntxmt Masterpiece. Not a huge Zappa fan but I love a handful of his tunes.

  37. r.... s....

LOVE both songs on this album

  50. S.... C....

Had the pleasure of meeting Mr Zappa backstage in Athens, GA in the early 70s. Quite the gentleman. What's so awesome about this track is the tape slice from studio "Oh No" to live OC Lumber Truck.

  51. X.... ....

    ray liotta

  52. B.... W....

    Ray Collins. Incredible voice.

  53. p.... ....

I always thought that Ray was the best vocalist Frank ever had- his delivery and vocal style helped make Frank's lyrics even more subversive. RIP to both great men.

  54. J.... B....

    Great tune.

  55. M.... B....

That's right, you are right, thr secret word is "mud shark"

  56. R.... F....

    👁😁

  57. G.... B....

"You're probably out to lunch" is a clear reference to the Dolphy's album "Out to Lunch". There's actually a lot of Dolphy's references in Weasels Ripped My Flesh, just as the "Eric Dolphy memorial Barbecue"

    G.... B....

Even though Dolphy died (June 1964) 2 years before the release of Freak Out (June, 1966), FZ has said that he was influenced by him, and with both being from the LA area might have eventually crossed paths perhaps.

    G.... B....

M White I would say it could be both a usage of the common phrase AND a reference to Dolphy. Zappa was in love with Dolphy's concept of jazz.

    G.... B....

Out to lunch means crazy too,the references made in this song is a dig at John Lennon.

    G.... B....

This song was written long before FZ met Lennon and their encounter the the Fillmore East, this song has nothing to do with Lennon.

    G.... B....

    @Mark Lines
foo foo! a delicious nigerian snack!

    C.... C....

uh yeaa he was. Freak Out references on the album cover. Madvillain has Uncle Meat samples and references in music videos

  63. C.... C....

"All of the fools! All of the hate! I think you're probably out to lunch..." FRANK ZAPPA WAS AND IS A MASTER

    C.... C....

Reminds me so much of the pop political/media narrative today. Mr. FZ would have so much fun lampooning the MSM today....

  64. f.... ....

That song is like sand paper to the ear canal. Worst piece of crap I have ever heard.

Enough Said? I will try and answer any questions as best as I can legally do so without getting my buttcheeck torn from one checkpoint Charlie to the other San Ysidiro border point crossing.

    And back again.

I sometimes think that the ...what were their names? The Reynoso Brothers, with warehouses on the San Diego side, had as much if not more to hide than the Navy/Army warehouse that were even CLOSER to the border....but of course {wink wink} had NO tunnel connections to Tijuana.

    my neck hurts,

  68. D.... W....

I'm frickin! obsessed with This Song! I Love Zappa & the Mothers! There one of my all time favorite bands ever! I'm gonna Make and Bring this music back By forming a band that loves this type of Music! (Anyone In?!)

    D.... W....

I'll join, but you gotta be near NY, fucker!

  69. M.... K....

When I hear this song, I picture a fancy dinner party, with a drunk pompous rich man talking about how he is the only person who knows the meaning of love. We then observe the jazz band playing, who continue to play nice music and then start to get experimental and get more intense. When they are done, the whole party is staring at them and the band starts laughing. Zappa at his finest!

  70. D.... G....

This is the essential Zappa. So many movements and bad ass guitar solos, who could ask for more?

  71. G.... L....

The mothers invented some good mother loving stuff here.

  72. B.... S....

These are two of my favorite songs.  I featured the tracks on a psychedelic rock mix I did a few years ago.  Great stuff!!!

  73. J.... D....

The drive of the lumber truck has been driving many a walk of this here walker.

  74. d.... P....

    mestre!

  75. O.... C....

Los dos tracks funcionan bien juntos. Perfecto.

  76. s.... ....

    Great song

  77. P.... R....

this was a sweet and dynamic tune

  78. C.... ....

I love the Beatles' ethos of love as espoused in All You Need Is Love, but I also love Zappa's hilarious savaging of its naiviete and its borderline sanctimonious pomposity. Plus the tune and time-signatures here are mindbendingly good - inventive in the extreme, but as with the best Beatles experiments, still organic and natural-sounding, not always a feature of Zappa.

    C.... ....

CultureJudge Yes, it would be hard to find a single leaf or bird in Zappa's music. I've always loved both the Beatles and Zappa too though.

  79. x.... ....

the immortal Frank Zappa with the immortal Ray Collins on vocals ,, On No!

  87. P.... V....

Unusual way of handling pop chords, Mr. Zappa inverts everything he touched.  And there's always these little tasty treats, little diversions
he would insert in the music....

Why do latin dudes upload the best Zappa tunes?

    C.... F....

aren't we all out to lunch? at some point or any other

    C.... F....

probably because, without the handicap of having to wade through silly lyrics, they 'got' the music.

    C.... F....

Fuck 'em. Making money outta their dead dad? Sorry, but once an artist dies that music belongs to all who appreciate it. At least Dweezil works for living.

Mark Lines Frank, in his autobiography, described himself as a small c conservative. It seems he and his wife were pretty astute when it came to business matters too.

  93. M.... B....

um, My interpretation would be:  Oh No = "Oh, NO Mr Media, don't trick us!. We need to love us first.  Another person is not necessary.".....Orange County Lumber Truck=  Lumber trucks hauling fecal shaped wood (lies) from where the Lorene was generated since the mid-late 60's............  Was the frequency 750, turned up 50-100 times too high, to blanket the natural frequency of Gaia?  Duh, maybe that's why almost all the birds terminated.  Or, did they just digest too much Dickweed and die gagging and laughing ?   Love, mox.  P.S. If'n y'allza thinkin'  yer Wick Gun er sumpem'. try reading Psalm 101 outloud (King Jim version) (oooo, my 1st Bible quote, ever.).  Also, everyone is allowed re-hab soon, or so it, would seem.  Yeehaw!

  94. R.... S....

Oh Yes! What a powerful message delivered in a catchy tune, then ultimately wailed upon as proof is in the pudding. He's no joke and shreds.

  95. T.... P....

This was Zappa's response to the Beatles "All You Need is Love"

    T.... P....

It's also a Zappa masterpiece. One of if not his greatest compositions.

    T.... P....

''Beatles track is musically far superior '' You're wrong. It could be a hearing problem, please see a doctor...

    T.... P....

Frank would say to those wankers that "All You Need is Glove"

    T.... P....

    +MiguelMValentine
So did the Beatles. They thought he was 'the most!'.

    T.... P....

lots of silly hippy stuff to make fun of, of course. At school we would sing "all you need is love. ..and half a million quid" [pounds, for North Americans]. That much dough being a lot of money in them there days.

  96. O.... H....

oh no i don't believe it this probably the best music you ll ever hear
