Zappa, Frank - Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up Lyrics
[Act I]
[SCENE EIGHT]
[LUCILLE HAS MESSED MY MIND UP]
other room and plays the title cut from an old
Jeff Simmons album, and sings along with it.
[JOE:]
Lucille
Has messed my mind up
But I still love her
Oh I still love her
Lucille
Has messed my mind up
Oh I still love her
Lucille
Has messed my mind up
But I still need her you know I need her
Whatcha tryna doota me Lucille?
Whatcha tryna doota me Lucille?
Whatcha tryna doota me Lucille?
You got me goin outa my mind
Lucille
Has tore my heart up
But I still love her
I really love her
Lucille
Has tore my heart up
But I still need her
You know I need her
She treats me like my heart
Is made of stone
She runs around
And leaves me home
All alone
She doesn't answer
When I call her on the phone
She messed up my mind
I'm cryin' alia the time
Lucille
Has messed my mind...

Zappa, Frank Lucille Has Messed My Mind Up Comments
Idk why but this song makes me want to fly over to a small Caribbean island at sunset and just chill out while taking in the view
this has been my favorite song for a while. you can imagine my happiness when a co-worker, one of the only people I've met who likes Zappa, had control of the bluetooth and after listening to some aforementioned artist put this on and said, "this is one of my favorite Zappa songs though, the way he sings"
hey Ian
Groovy man
18 and on the run in upstate NY, chasing some 16 year old who messed my mind up.
This was good live, let me tell you a story.......
They must have done 29 lobotomies to get dis-liker's for this very special track?!
This album changed my life
Change it to Christine. That's me, I miss her.

Who needs complicated lyrics anyway?
Even if you're happily married with kids, there is always the one that got away.

Buster's ode to mother
Uno de los grandes virtuosos de la guitarra. Seguro. Sabia hablar con su guitarra.

Ike Willis slept on my couch twice!!! True story, he also ate all our brownies...
Cenk Uygur looks like a Mexican with a Zappastache.
the brother singing this is where it's at everytime
Ike Willis. GREAT vocalist, and a ripping guitarist too.
just a masterpiece.
Big dire straits fan and I hear it right here. This is so good
My co worker loves Zappa claims he hates reggae...stupid ass 😂😂😂
Classic song
Frank was such an amazing musical human being.
Zappa rules
Despues de haber escuchado esta canción me hubiera enamorado de cualquier chica
que se llamara Lucille.
I listened to "Outside Now" after listening to this one. Both are pretty much extended laments, but "Lucille" reflects innocence and longing to be loved, exactly the kind of feelings young musicians like Joe would hitch their career on.
"Outside Now" is much less optimistic and sounds like he's crying the same way over and over, trying to figure out how to fix his broken life. Even at that there's no hope of a happy resolution (as the next three songs illustrate).
The contrast is strikingly sad and beautiful.
Lucilla il reggae ama te !
💞.......

The correct lyric is,she treats my hard like is made of stone
2018 could really use some Zappa.
and now 2019, even more.
Dont like the harmoica on this
I can't believe 14 morons didn't like this !
GRACIAS FRANK !!!😍
beautiful.
Nothing more painful (emotionally) than being madly in love w a woman & she doesn’t feel the same.
Going through that now.
There are things way way way more painfull...leave a finger in the car's door while you closin it and you'll tell me something...incredible pain, fucked up nail etc etc
there is something more painful than that. It's losing a woman who loves you dearly that you would give your own life for
Also, STDs
@Victor Malvarez
Suffered multiple times but was way fortunate to meet a wonderful woman. Thirty-nine years later we are more than a relationship can be described.
FZ surrounded himself with only the best, of the best, musicians. Many "hot-shit" musos failed his auditions.
Phil Silvers Indeed, Zappa would often joke if a musician flubbed a note in an audition “well the good news is I heard Linda Rondstat is looking for a guitar player (drummer/bass player etc)”.
Stevie vie being one
My mind up!
She treat me like my heart is made of stone!
It is my hard...stone
Lucille! FTW!
Love this song so much
Frank could write a song! In ANY Genre! That to Me is Genius!
This song was written by Jeff Simmons who played with Frank in the late 60's early 70's
he has such a versatile voice and lyrics - I love and miss him - thanks Frank - you R a genius -
This is not Frank's voice
who is it then and how do you know? the album ?
It's Ike Willis. It says in the descriptions of some versions of the songs in the album: Joe - Ike Willis
Ike Willis was the voice of Zappa's soul
awesome song, makes me be so cossyyy
<3 love this one, named My daughter after this song :)

Donnie’s plea to Sessions and Mueller.

isn't this just a sublime sound?
one of my absolute favs

Me too, reminds me of when I was working in Abu Dhabi in 1981 with a bunch of fantastic Brit and American guys, most of whom loved Zappa and especially this song. Great times and good music.
Whatcha tryin ta do ta me ?
What a common name....They are all named Lucille! LOL!
Music is the best.
Bangin'! So melodic, so sexy, so Frank Zappa.
This song is among the three greatest ever composed.
The titles of the other two escape me.
we all know, hopefully. die happy
Thomas Dahlquist yes x
Nuh-uh....
Named my guitar after this song!!!
That's B.B. King's guitar's name, too. It saved his life. Literally!
Song for Glenn & Abraham
****GREAT****
anyone else think it's weird this and sy borg have very similar beats
I'd say it's appropriot.
(That's a funny pronunciation if'n ever I heard one!)
So ahead of his time he predicted season 7 of the Walking Dead. haha just kidding I'll tell you what that bass settings in this song along with that fender sound of the 80s just shows you Frank knew what he was doing trying to capture the sound of that time as him knowing music and fads always come and go.
Glenn too
Lucille could be BB King's guitar. :)
i love this music man
Maestro de Maestro
Walking Dead fans, this was rumored to be Glenn's favorite Zappa song...
Lucille messed Glenn's head up.
ducking ike
Aw man!... That was cold shit dude!...LOLOL!!
Frank could certainly knock out a lovely tune when he felt like it.
I agree!
much prefered..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8GGWqJ-l4U
I gave my daughter her second name after this song.
violentauntie are you aware that Lucille gave Joe gonococcus?
Hope she will find a better job than working at the local Jack in the box ..
How many times has she messed your mind up . Great name though.
What was wrong with the 1st name?
Still so very missed Frank.
Amo questa canzone davvero molto
frank does reggae ,no end to this mans talent
+jim hutchison
And he does it well, unlike some rock bands whose attempts at doing reggae sound quite clumsy.
Yes and the amazing thing about this is that although it does sound like reggae, it is also very unique and original. The soulful falsetto vocals are very different from normal reggae, and just the little things he does with the guitar, the little accenting slides he does all over the place are just too perfect, and the effects on his guitar along with the organ/synth would sound so cheesy coming from almost everyone else, especially give the tone of the album, and yet this song really just tears your soul out, the repetitive lyrics only providing a blank canvas for Ike to just really belt it out and show what he can do. It's almost like a solo for vocals. If there is a term for that, I'd love for someone to let me know.
he also did a reggae version of Ring of Fire ;O)
I love his love of Doo wop
the man of truth
Me too. Thanks for posting.
+Nevenka Spasic You're welcome, mate.
mr vai give it up Lucille and black napkins what did u use flipping fantastic
Zappa, such a talent. You have to listen to his music and appreciate how he put it all together
I'm proud to call Ike a friend. He's one of the funniest and most talented people on the planet.
Ike is an incredible talent, and a mainstay of the Zappa sound for years.
John Carter Ike is a very talented, smart, and charming man. He owes me about $90, and I’m not alone. I hope he’s gotten his shit together.
Iburnchurches Unlikely - always lucid and sober, but after a point, you wonder how every new problem can be solved with another $20. He’s a very talented and intelligent guy, and I only hope the best for him - don’t care about the debt.
this song, has messed my mind up
I had to buy the Cassette back in 1980 - USCG with my boy Vincent Scott Simon who turned me on to Frank Zappa - I haven't caught up to Simon since 1983 - regardless-Take Care Simon - & Thanks for Frank Zappa !!!!!!
Lucille has f#ked up good!!! What a beautifull piece of music...
