Zappa, Frank - Goblin Girl Lyrics

Hob-noblin
Wit de goblin
De Goblin Girl
From da mystery world
Hob-noblin
Wit de goblin
She's black 'n green
'Cause it's Halloween
Raggedy black
Is the way she dress
Little green shoes
'N her hairs a mess
On Halloween night
At de costume ball
She's a Goblin Girl
An' she can gobble it all
She's a goblin
She's a Goblin Girl
She's a goblin
She's a Goblin Girl
I been hobblin'
'Cause of the Goblin
Goblin Girl...
Goblin Girl
Some girls like
To dress like a witch
Some girls like to dress like a queen
Best way a girl
Can dress for me
Is in a Goblin suit
(They look so cute...)
When they're a goblin
There ain't a problin
When they're a goblin
I start a-wobblin'
Pink all over
Some is tan
Goblin Girls
From every land
They look good
From any which-a-way
Every Halloween
You can hear me say:
"Goblin Girl, take it away..."
Hob-noblin
Wit de goblin
De Goblin Girl
From da mystery world
(TRICK OR TREAT NOW...)
Talkin' 'bout the bad girls
All the Goblin Girls
Talkin' 'bout the bad, bad girls
The little Goblin Girls
Some are called Doreen
Some are dressed in green
They're tricking your treat
But they're bad girls
They're very bad girls
(LEPRECHAUN LIGHT...)
They make your face look like you got scales on it
But that's okay...
When the green light shines down
On the black guys in the band
Everybody in the audience
Thinks they're seeing something
That looks like it's made out of Fish skin
But Coy leaves the green gels in the truss
Because he knows the guys in the front
Really enjoy looking like they've got
Scales all over their body...

The Girl Wants To Fix Him Some Broth
    Little Girl of Mine
    Little Rubber Girl
    Lobster Girl
    Lonely Girl
    Switching Girls
    What Kind Of Girl?
What Kind Of Girl Do You Think We Are?

Zappa had a lot of songs with girl in the title. More than I'd think.

  4. L.... C....

This is a 5 Star Album in my book! The harmonies Frank employed on this album were some of the best he ever recorded. I think this was the last album with David Logeman on drums & Arthur Barrow on bass in Franks band.

  5. B.... H....

My dads friend calls me goblin girl because of my love of Halloween. I have always loved this song! It’s such a great Halloween song. And how can you not like Frank?! 💚💚💚

  6. t.... ....

Is the Goblin Girl also the Catholic girl on Halloween? You know how they go...

    t.... ....

🎶aaaaaaaall the waaaaaaaaay, that’s the way they go. Everyday, and none of their mamas ever seem to know
Hip-hip-hooray, for all the class they show
There's nothing like a Catholic girl at the CYO, when they learn to blow...🎵

  9. j.... s....

My all time favorite Halloween song.

  10. C.... T....

    Goblin Slayer disliked this.

  11. T.... R....

I absolutely love the Doreen reprise in this song. It gives Doreen a completely new tone and it always gives me chills just as the original Doreen does. It’s amazing how Frank could take an existing song, completely change the mood of it, and still come out with a masterpiece. I’d might even say he does it better here than on Son of Orange County or Dog Breath.

  12. D.... V....

    Ode to Monica Lewinsky

  13. j.... s....

    Gotta love a goblin girl!

  14. z.... s....

How many vocal overdubs at the end?

  15. G.... S....

this was my daughters favorite Halloween song when she didn't know what the fuck he was talking about.

    G.... S....

Glenn Sanner Hahahaha! It looks just like a Telefunken U-47.

  16. S.... ....

Saw Frank do this in New York at one of his famous Halloween shows. Still one of my favorites. I probably have 50 favorite Frank singles. Yikes!

  17. W.... F....

This was playing when Jeb first met his future wife at the Holiday Inn.

    W.... F....

He probably thought she was using a guacamole face mask.😉

    W.... F....

This was playing when Bill met Hillary for the first time at Jeffrey Epstein's island.

  18. D.... S....

I've been listening to Frank Zappa since 1967

    D.... S....

+Daniel Shanahan I ate two bananas today.

    D.... S....

    +Norvydas Slankauskas what

    D.... S....

I thought we are talking about the random things that we did?

    D.... S....

    +Norvydas Slankauskas ok

    D.... S....

I wasn’t even a shiver in me fadder’s loins in 1967! However, I got to meet Frank, in his home, with Eric Buxton & Rob Samler (of Society Pages infamy) in May of 1989. Too damn bad Frank passed on far too soon as the world could surely use his wisdom right now.

  19. k.... ....

Is the from the original LP mix? Sounds different than the CD version I have

    k.... ....

+kx9x I'm not sure, I have heard a slightly different version. This version I found amongst music files on an old hard drive, no idea where it originally came from.

    k.... ....

+kx9x I have the original on vinyl and this version is mixed a bit different.

    k.... ....

This version is from the compilation "Have I Offended Someone": it's a different mix that runs slower than the "You Are What You Is" album (but is actually at the correct speed) and features drum overdubs by Chad Wackerman.

  20. Z.... 1....

    great song about fellatious women.

    Z.... 1....

Zoso 1369 Winner winner, chicken dinner!

  21. z.... ....

An innocent little song? yea right!
ok, lets go over some of the lyrics:

    "She's a Goblin Girl
An' she can gobble it all "

    "When they're a goblin
    There ain't a problin
    When they're a goblin
    I start a-wobblin' "

    "All the Goblin Girls
Talkin' 'bout the bad, bad girls
    The little Goblin Girls "

A brilliant composer? maybe? a dirty composer...well look at the lyrics above ;)

    z.... ....

oh please, listen to the background

"Let me cum tonight, and it'll be alright woooh"
"You can't make me say I won't *nonsense sounds* all over you"
"My snout is burning with love and it wants you to die" I think that one's my favorite
"I hope you're good and tight"

  22. B.... T....

goblin girl from the mystery world

  23. s.... ....

Classic Zappa tune - and such a fun Halloween greeting!  I love all the little utterances
in the background.  I can just see the little skeletons a tap dancin' to this seasonal tune! Oh, to imagine what Frank would be pressing out today had he not been taken from us far too early in his lifetime.  Truly a brilliant composer of an extraordinary diverse array of  compositions.

    s.... ....

@starchildstrider So how does it take a 'sophisticated intellect' to comprehend what he himself described as nonsense?

    s.... ....

I believe you were talking about Zappa's lyrics as being described as nonsense - I was referring to his musical compositions as
begin intellectually sophisticated.  The word 'sophisticated' can be used in several different contexts - I was using it here in the context of complex or intricate, as a system; process. There is no question that his music is complex.  Regarding his lyrics, Zappa had the unusual ability to be silly and substantive simultaneously - and sometimes the concepts he conveyed could be fundamentally profound.  He was a visionary, of sorts; and if one ponders on the messages he conveyed in his compositions of social commentary, it is evident that many things he cautioned us about decades ago, have come to fruition. Now then, have I adequately answered your question?

    s.... ....

    @starchildstrider
No, you skirted round it using psychobabble though. Music can't be of a form where it requires 'sophisticated intellect' to comprehend. It is sound. You either like it or not. Saying you need to be sophisticated to 'understand' it is just pretentious nonsense.

    s.... ....

I just wonder how many people actually picked up on the double entendre behind the song. The retching sounds and the line "she's a goblin girl and she can gobble it all" kind of gives it away.

    s.... ....

@Beta Vulgaris I could not help but to refer you to an abstract of a research article titled "The Musicality of Non-Musicians: An Index for Assessing Musical Sophistication in the General Population" :
    https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0089642
Sophisticated music is complex and intricate just like the starchildstrider said - and infers that an intellect of a certain sophistication surely fosters an appreciation of complex music. I do not agree with you that she or he was saying pretentious nonsense - there is much published literature and research papers about the subject of musical sophistication.

  24. U.... C....

I think, lyrically, this is one of my all time favorite Zappa songs, specifically because of this gem: "when the green lights shine down on the black guys in the band everybody in the audience thinks they're seeing something that looks like it's made out of fish skins".

How do you even write a lyric that brilliantly absurd?

    U.... C....

Yeah, that's gotta be a thing-fish reference. Another conceptual continuity treat.

    U.... C....

No, it is a reality in stage lighting. Black performers do not get green lights because green light makes them look like zombies, or as FZ says: made out of fish skins.

    U.... C....

System of a Clown well you have a point.

    U.... C....

But Coy keeps the green gels in the truss because he likes looking at things with scales all over their bodies.

  25. F.... ....

I've always felt this an odd Zappa tune, for it's rather straight forward with relative PG lyrics, if you don't over do it by reading too much into them. It's really not standard Zappa fare. I just wonder if this was written for his kids.

    F.... ....

    @triplehood thanks perv

    F.... ....

    @probrojeffro
I hope you're good and tight isn't a subtle reference

    F.... ....

The only question is whether Frankincensed is a virgin or a member of the church of latter day saints

    F.... ....

Masstransit2 He's obviously a member of the First Church of Appliantology. Just remember, the white zone is for loading and unloading only.
