It appears to be a consensus that this is one of Zappa's greatest albums. I'm of that opinion myself. It was the first Zappa album I bought at age 15 after being turned on to Flo & Eddie era Mothers. This album is obviously much different than "dirty Frank" of '71, but I dug into it and eventually bought every album. You know the story...
So, we agree that this is one of Zappa's best albums, released in '75. In his Zappa In New York concert series in NYC, he played Sofa and introduced it by saying it came from One Size Fits All, an album that "didn't sell for shit."
Perhaps up until the end of the year of '76 it wasn't a big seller. Certainly wouldn't do as well as Apostrophe (') Overnite Sensation or Roxy & Elsewhere from a few years earlier, but I'm sure a lot more units sold if this is considered one of his best.

Somewhere there is a parallel universe in which Zappa never existed. It's known as the shit universe.

Basic beat is theta. It is good for clarity. But is the default rhythm of the psychopath. They have difficulty modulating from sympathetic to parasympathetic. Sad. Behavioral endocrine dysfunction .. pollution of endocrine environment. The rolling of the big dice. It is rolled .. where will it fall?

The first Zappa I heard in my life was this album back in 76ish. I was 12 then and managed to see him live 3 times in 1988 on his final tour.

@proisle I'm a bit older, but saw him at the UBC war gym in 1975. A friend of mine was an engineering student and they were working security that night. So I was back stage before the concert and actually talked to the great and only Frank. And I saw him again sometime around 1981 at the colosseum.

I first heard the Mothers in the late 60s, but really payed attention after hearing Over Night Sensation. I had the Zappa poster of Frank sitting on the crapper on my bedroom wall at age 13 [about 1967 ]...my father was less than amused. Most of my friends liked the Grateful Dead, but would listen to some Zappa. They were repelled by my copy of Trout Mask Replica however.

Johnny "Guitar" Watson's cameo vocal at 4:13 has always been in my Top Ten Zappa Moments list. I love that part so much.

Zappa in the music is like Valentino Rossi in the motorbikes!
