*Jon himself stated that Ryan accidentally fell in love with a girl in capet own, at the concert he threw his passport into the audience stating that he "Never wanted to leave". This song isn't about ryden purely, it's about Ryan falling for someone else. Not to mention the lyric "I hardly knew a thing about you.", he'd been in a band with Brendon for years when they performed in cape town. You could argue that it's simply for lyrical illusion but why in the hell would he do that if the whole song was supposed to be about brendon?? So basically this isn't the ryden song of the century and even i, a ryden shipper, know better than to trust one of the lyricists rather than my own little head.*

Okay so ryan and brendon both had nicknames. Ryan was the Sun and Brendon was the Moon.
As you know, in *many* of their songs (especially pretty odd) they have lyrics that use the Sun and Moon to represent people falling in love woth each other. (theres a yt video that has some examples that i could link) and the question is;
Why the hell use your and your best friends nickname to represent people falling in love if you arent dating?
As you also know; Northern Downpour-most notorious Ryden song.
It was said that the song was about things that meant alot to them. (ryan wrote this song.) There is the lyric "Hey Moon please forget to fall down, Hey moon dont you go down."
People see Northern Downpour as a promise (i think) and since ryan left its like a broken promise. The reason people think this is brendon cries whenevee he sings this song on stage.

ive been so distracted with other fandoms that i momentarily forgot about p!atd and stuff. i was looking back on a fan fiction i used to love and one of the lines reminded me of this song. it feels so fuckin nostalgic haha

My theory is Brendon had been in love with Ryan, and Ryan flew to Seattle to be with him. In Cape Town Ryan and Brendon hooked up, but Ryan either didn’t feel the same way Brendon did or he was too scared to admit he had feelings for Brendon, eventually leading them to the split. Now in Brendon’s stream where he addressed Ryden, “Is Ryden real, if you’re talking about if me and Ryan were ever in a relationship, no, we were friends” and you could hear the salt in Brendon’s voice, because he wanted to be with Ryan but Ryan has told him that they will never be more than friends.
