Luckily I made it through those years but I will always carry the mental and physical scars, and the name. Life is a forlorn dream, accept that and one day you might be happy.

They took one of the best songs ever and made it even better. Maire Brennan and Clannad so underrecognized by American audiences. Paul Young did an amazing job as well and whoever came up with the arrangement deserves credit as well.

I remember watching this tune on top of the pops back in 1991 i was 15 and my Mother would hire the TV up when it came on..i always thought she was crazy ..but she died back in 95 and now at nearly 40 I know why this song meant so much to her

I still have this cassette and in the liner notes it tells how sick Paul was during recording. Can't tell it by the vocal, but his eyes tell a different story.

i saw the movie switch when i was back in school days  in 91/2 this song was the ending song to the movie very haunting and totally forgotten about it until i saw 'love actually' and heard the original by joni mitchel i would say this is the closes to the original i came across and bring me back to my youth

Hi Andy:  I, too, saw the Movie --- then was awe inspired by the closing credits, which included this lovely version. IMO --- better than Joni.

I regularly fly every month, and this is a very wonderful song ever crafted when seeing those cloud formation up in the sky, reminds me a total picture of  simply life when I was young living with my parents brothers and sisters in our simple but stormy place in PI. Such a very touching song. Thank you for posting this wonderful song.

In 1972 i sat in my house with my daughter Tara, her father left me for someone else. I used to play Joni Mitchel every day. This version is making me cry. Life is so incredible. PEACE

I only caught the ending of Switch on telly one night in 1994..and my face was streaked with tears when this song started to play over then end titles...I found the compilation album containing this song a few weeks later..Now I must find Switch on DVD next..Great cover great song..

It;s impossible to hear this witout being a child again; I'm 45 now and the song has layers of meanings which were lost to me when I heard it as a child on the radio, doodling in my sketchbook. But the memories it evokes are sweet ones. So there you go ...

Makes you remember how simple life really used to be, :-( Makes you want to go straight back doesn't it? Although I was a fan of Paul Young in my teens, my favourite version is the Glen Campbell version.

She played at my cousins funeral in 2008 . She sang a solo in Irish and played the harp ..A modest woman I reckon. ,

@tonytiger1964 The are two songs that I have liked through out my life and that remind me of when I was innocent The first is Both Sides Now (Judy Collins cover) and Pachabel's Canon. I am now sixteen and I recently opened an eleven year old time capsule. It had been made for the new millennium when I was still four. It was meant to be opened last year on my birthday but it had been forgotten about. In it there was a packet with questions. One was what my favorite song was: Both Sides Now.

I remember breaking up with my first true girlfriend - this was the song that this sad kid used to cry myself to sleep with! That was twenty years ago! I feel so old LOL!!! What a song, though. Stands up to the modern songs of late! A classic

@tonytiger1964 , I guess you are a romantic, just like me. I love this song and Pachabels " Canon was my wedding song, but the song that truly empitamizes me is, Too much Love will kill me by Brian May.

I cried at the end of Switch because of this song. I was 15 and CONVINCED that I experienced a piece of heaven. It's like blue sky and clouds with the lyrics softly written in white. I never forgot that feeling.
Also, if you listen to the track all the way to the very end you can hear Clannad softly cooing as if lulling a baby to sleep but really reassuring us! Honest and loving with a happy ending to everyone's story. It almost makes this life make sense.

I remember hearing this when I saw Blake Edwards' "Switch." To this day, every time I hear this song, I think of heaven. No song has ever FELT that way to me and it's one of the pieces which inspired me to take up music again.

My God! I am so in love with this song, it is the best song I have found. I have been in a rut with searching for great love songs and this is the greatest I have found, it has an actual poem for lyrices.

Paul Young did a fantastic work on this song....however this song is written and sung by our own Julio Bernardo Euson back in 1971...no one ever sung it better than him.....we would really love to have you on your island Aruba again for at least one concert... it would be a dream come true.....bin deleita nos cu bo voz...nos ta semper cu bo.....

don't feel like a sap saying that. i totally know how you feel and what you are trying to say.. i'm 37 and there are certain song that make me ache and think of all the years gone by. and really miss that carefree childhood. another one that always made me feel that way was Taylor Dane, "love will lead you back". try it out.. good post
