Young, Neil - Welfare Mothers Lyrics
People, pick up
on what I'm puttin' down now
Welfare mothers
make better lovers
Down at every
Laundromat in town now
Welfare mothers
make better lovers
While they're washin'
you can hear this sound now
Welfare mothers
Divorcee!
Hard to believe
that love is free now
Welfare mothers
make better lovers
Out on the street
with the whole family now
Welfare mothers
make better lovers
Hard to believe
that love is free now
Welfare mothers
make better lovers
Divorcee!
People, pick up
on what I'm puttin' down now
Welfare mothers
make better lovers
Down in every
Laundromat in town now
Welfare mothers
make better lovers
While they're washin'
you can hear this sound now
Welfare mothers
make better lovers
Divorcee!

Young, Neil Welfare Mothers Comments
So wild!
sing it with me! :p
its true.... as I learned when I was 20
This is one of Neil's better stripped-down rockers. Funny, topical and yet the those rock guitars (and Neil's rickety voice) just shatter the song to pieces. Great stuff!
Just remember one thing: Welfare mothers make better lovers.
I feel like the people in this comment section think this is a political song...I don't think so...I, and various others I've seen, would take note of the "hard to believe that love is free" line, and speculate that it's a comment on the "free love" concept.
It is political in one sense.. liberals love to keep people on welfare so they will vote for them to keep their free money coming in. And keep making babies who will do the same thing..
Think I'll pack it and buy a pickup take it down to L A

Hahaha this is great. Never thought Neil would write something like this
'Sedan Delivery'
I love everything on "Rust Never Sleeps" but the rock stuff is mind blowing. "Sedan Delivery" is Neil's half Psychedelic, half Punk song :) So good.
Check out "Queen of Them All" on the CSNY "Looking Forward" album (a play on words to say the least (queen of the MALL) …. get it? 😁

I'm totally addicted to this song right now. Welfare Mothers make better lovers! My head is being ripped apart by excellent guitar solos!
He has so many great songs but this is one of his best.
I remember the first time I heard it on the radio when it came out.
