Young, Neil - Tell Me Why Lyrics
Sailing heart-ships
thru broken harbors
Out on the waves in the night
Still the searcher
must ride the dark horse
Tell me why, tell me why
Is it hard to make
arrangements with yourself,
When you're old enough to repay
but young enough to sell?
Tell me lies later,
come and see me
I'll be around for a while.
All in the way that you smile
Tell me why, tell me why
Is it hard to make
arrangements with yourself,
When you're old enough to repay
but young enough to sell?
Tell me why, tell me why
Tell me why, tell me why

I love this song. ... chriz lang poh ng pateros... astounding!!!! Salamat poh..
My favorite song. Perhaps it's because I have discovered Neil Young with that song. It's so pure and fresh.
Neil Young is a great songwriter and I've always loved his music but I think After The Goldrush was most definitely is best album
Rusell Shaw
Without a doubt. It is a fucking masterpiece !
Wore out this 8-track back in the day.
Happy Birthday Neil.
When you’re old enough to repay but young enough to sell 💋
I have a vivid memory of the first time I put this album on just before going out on a date back in 1970.
Tell me why they want to impeach a great President?
Because democrats are salty about not letting killary get in office
Because "the "LEFT"!!! wants to Destroy this GREAT U.S.A.!!!!
Because of the implication
Great album.. loved it!!!
I remember listening to this nice folk song a while ago where I used to live google riel boire for music
Man imagine if Danny Whitten didn’t die when he did...RIP.
Great song from a great album, I don't get how there could be even one thumbs down on this for any reason.
Paul Robinson Some people are clueless & have terrible taste in music . Or are jealous.
Those harmonies are heavenly
Great track....

"Tell Me Why"
Sailing heart-ships
thru broken harbors
Out on the waves in the night
Still the searcher
must ride the dark horse
Racing alone in his fright.
Tell me why, tell me why
Is it hard to make
arrangements with yourself,
When you're old enough to repay
but young enough to sell?
Tell me lies later,
come and see me
I'll be around for a while.
I am lonely but you can free me
All in the way that you smile
Tell me why, tell me why
Is it hard to make
arrangements with yourself,
When you're old enough to repay
but young enough to sell?
Tell me why, tell me why
Tell me why, tell me why
Does anyone do vulnerability better?
The first Neil Young song that I've ever heard and one of my favourite songs ever!!!
Since 1975 when I was 13, this song has been an anthem of my youth. His voice represents goodness of human soul. It is an equivalent to Otis Redding's Try A Little Tenderness. To me, Neil starts here and ends here. The song is himself canned.
24 on the 24th today! Here’s to 10 years of Neil Young fueling me, and many others for a lot longer, with his music.

Don't forget the stuff he did with the Buffalo Springfield (1966-1968) and the singles (1968-1970) not on any studio albums (released on the compilation "Decade" in 1976). Also the stuff with CSNY 1969-1960, and "Long May You Run" with Steven Stills in 1976. Also where is his first solo album "Neil Young" from 1968? You also missed "American Stars and Bars" (1976) and "Comes A Time" (1977). Lastly, "Live Rust" (1980) is one of the best live albums ever.
Timeless
One of Young's greatest songs -
Beautiful.
A classic everybody should hear
Ah, that whiny vibrato... no one like Neil!
HIS FINEST SOLO ALBUM IMO..WORE THIS OUT WHEN IT WAS NEW ...YES B 63 IN JUNE.....
fabuleux.....
I remember when this song came ...it's "young enough to REPAINT and young enough to sell", not repay, which makes no sense. Kids don't remember when you kept a car long enough to repaint it ;).
AMEN thank you. I agree, I've always heard it as repaint, the other makes no sense.
This track was played at my pal's funeral
Brought the chapel Down
Youngsters were asking me , who was that?
And I said that s Niel Young and they all said WOW and I felt good knowing that I had introduced a lot of people to Neil Young
Nice comment man , greetings from Mexico.
I will do the same!
Another Neil Young song you recognize, but don't know the title.

What about Lord melon?
Oh.... I can see the Orange Sunshine now.....Tell Me Why these colors don't run...
I’m wondering how many of the younger people here know what Orange Sunshine is. Personally I know it well 😉

Isn't the first line "Sailing HARDships...'?
@nittles61--- No, the first line is not "Sailing HARDships ...."
Ray Ursillo quoted the first line correctly.

Topanga Canyon in the late 60's early 70's was an amazing place...people like Neil Young lived there and a lot of Flower girls...
Laurel Canyon was the main scene.

GREAT SONG....but, too bad Neil Young is a **piece of shit** Hollywood Liberal. He left his wife of 30 YEARS for a WHORE..Darryl Hannah. Then had to sell his RANCH...after he split from his wife. WHAT A STUPID FUCKING ASSHOLE. **He lost his ranch....over a piece of pussy.** Hannah has lived with many musicians...including Jackson Browne.
Oh shut the fuck up.
Born to rock
One day it will all make perfect nonsensical sense.
MASSIVE album!
Many times I lose "my way" & put this on.
Thanks, Neil.
1 year later. It is timeless, does lift you up on a downer day!
Best album ever made. By anyone
@Ζήτω η Ελλάδα! Maybe side A. I have the album and side A well the side that starts with Tell me Why maybe, the other side not so great.
Ted Freddy
Well, that’s like, just your opinion man.
@Ζήτω η Ελλάδα! Sure, that's right. My opinion like who cares! I have the album and you don't. Ha Ha
That middle section with the guitar is as perfect as a folk song can get!
Alex Block truer words were never said
One of my favorites by him.
Sad honest and truthful
Neil is the greatest rock and roller of all times! Look at the body of his work and his longevity. He is still relevant and rockin' in the some what free world.
Neil Strauss It's Freddie Mercury

Live Rust
The Rust Never Sleeps video concert is the greatest set of live music ever in my opinion. The performances at that concert better the studio versions in my opinion.

Live at Farm Aid.
I am lonely but you can free me, all in the way that you smile.
Now, that's some lyrics for ya.
Beautiful Beautiful lyric. What a gorgeous album.
My favorite lines too. Sitting here, getting high, crying and thinking of my husband who passed away 3 weeks ago.
THIS I WOULD SAY TO ONE OF MY BROTHER'S. "TELL ME WHY" IS IT HARD TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS! FOR YOURSELF!
if you were an older sister 'winding them up' when they wanted something from you or you were just mocking their youthful ways, this must have drove them mad or pissed them right off. quite clever of you. lol
I have vague memories of this song, I never really listened to it, didn't really care. I've been listening to Neil Young since I was 8, I'm 16 and this is the first time I'm really listening to this song and I really like it.
OMG, TTIARI! 16 and you get Neil Young. Awesome! I'm 65 and have been a hardcore Neil Young fan since 1972. Do yourself a favor and buy/download his "Live at Massey Hall (1971)" album. Warning: you will be hooked on Neil Young the rest of your life. Enjoy my young friend - Bob in Taos, NM
