Young, Neil - Philadelphia Lyrics
Sometimes I think that I know
What love's all about
And when I see the light
I know I'll be all right.
I had my friends
When we were boys and girls
And the secrets came unfurled.
City of brotherly love
Place I call home
Don't turn your back on me
I don't want to be alone
Love lasts forever.
Calling my name
Tell me I'm not to blame
I won't be ashamed of love.
Philadelphia,
City of brotherly love.
Brotherly love.
Sometimes I think that I know
What love's all about
And when I see the light
I know I'll be all right.
Philadelphia.

where is the oscar for this masterpiece?
life can be over in such a short time
this movie is a masterpiece. its horrible to see a healthy young man whose life went away. but... people are often blind and think: my life is so terrible! the role of andy beckett had an unnecessary terrible experience and he payed for it. a life is wonderful and full of opportunities. dont hate, love!
i was crying when i watched this movie
I could loop this song over and over and literally not get tired of it.
almost cried...(not almost cry)
the entire movie hooked my mind but it is the last scene which held my heart...i almost cry...almost...
the small, healthy little boy---so pure and innocent.

the small, healthy little boy---so pure and innocent.
Life indeed is so short. A season for everything: of youth and old age; of health and sickness, of birth and death.
the entire movie, Philadelphia had my mind hooked on it but when the movie got to the last part which this song is being played, my heart went out to that once little, healthy boy...this is I think the most moving part of the film.
Life indeed is so short. Everything has a season. of youth and old age, of health and illness,of birth and of death.
Sweet song but its fucking whiny sounding
underrated song
Damn !!! Always in tears when I am listening this song.
@NepheshAngel
If you believe the bible Tom Hanks' character would have gone to hell because he was gay. I don't mean you any harm because what you said was nice but your religion isn't so nice.
Saddest song ever? I've not heard sadder.
I think this song was robbed for 1994's best song oscar. Springsteen's song was good, but this is really, really special.
como una CANCION PUEDE PRODUCIR SENTIMIENTOS TAN, PERO TAN PROFUNDOS.
one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
This song makes me cry. It makes me think about this so beautiful film...
PHILADELPHIA <3
This version has so much soul.
I fully agree, a great movie with a great song by Neil. But don't forget The Boss with his streets!
I just saw that movie on the German TV.
No one can perform this in Neil's inimitable way. Well done.
the most saddest and beautiful song about love
This is a great memories song
@JamesBurdin2010 Absolutely. He lost out to Springsteen for 'best song' Oscar-a joke. This should've won.
this song tears my heart on million parts...its so beautiful although its sooo sad...when i watched the Philadelphia movie i couldnt stop crying in the end of the movie... well done Neil :(
I love the music and I loock the film
What has happened to amazing music like this:( Justin Beiber should be looking up to this man and saying...wow..what the hell have i done to music
The saddest song I have ever heard!
Tear up when this plays over the home video at the end of the movie.
There was an award and I think it went to Philadelphia by Bruce Springsteen. It should have went to this song.
fantastica!!!!
Stunning sounds and words. Absolutely fantasic.
This song deserved the Oscar that it was so wrongly robbed of.
I remember the night that Neil was robbed of an Oscar for this song ... I haven't watched the Academy Awards since!
@mcpm4
agreed. Neil should have won, as this song is TIMELESS like the man himself. However, THIS song was performed on the awards show. I'd rather see an awesome performance than some silly award delegated by people who screw these things up ALL of the time. Recognition is good, leaving a lasting impression that pulls at the heart strings...priceless. I say he REALLY won.
@trivia4fun: also think of you every time i hear this song.. still miss you every day.. can't give in..
@trivia4fun , she still misses you...
@trivia4fun: same here..... hope you'll be with me soon.... Tmm..Jt..Xxx
I CRIED LIKE A WITTLE BITCH!!!
R I P Andrew Beckett
Saw the new Neil Young film at Toronto Film Festival this week. Young and Demme did a Q&A with the audience afterwards and they talked about how this song came about. Demme wanted a big macho rock anthem to counteract any homophobia that the film might attract. He called on Young and this beautiful ballad is what emerged. He then moved on to Springsteen, only to get another beautiful ballad.

This song makes me want to be a better human and love stronger
And most of all makes me feel so lucky to be alive on this incredibly beautiful earth with all of you!
I mean really did one of us really make a song sound so ________(no words to describe.)
Beautiful song for a beautiful movie.
Neil Young did a excellent job with this song it makes me want to cry
i like the part "Don't turn your back on me I don't want to be alone Love last forever" because i'm sure that how many person who are terminally ill feel with no family to be with them on they're last days.
nice song but whenever i hear it i think of death, like funerals and stuff cos its so sad. the bit when this plays in the movie is so sad, i restrained so hard from getting teary when i first saw this movie.
This song makes me cry everytime.
this is just beautiful. i really must remember to hide everything sharp in the room before i play it.
I left the radio on while I slept and was woken up by this song. Was awesome.
does anyone know where or how to get a dvd or some video of Neil Young singing this live or in studio? Maybe perhaps he had a concert in his younger years when this song was fairly new. I've already seen the one on youtube with Johnny Depp introducing him. I'm looking for one when he was abit younger. Any ideas? ? ?
A fantastic song for an inspiring film.
1 - open a new window
2 - go to rainymood
3 - play this song along
4 - enjoy
I can't listen to this, it just rips my guts apart. I think of all the people I knew who are dead then I think of them as kids,
i just cried
15 people never lose someone important in their lives...
Beautiful Song! Touches my Heart!
@DatEnigmatic Tori Amos does a brilliant version. Of course, nothing can match the original. :)
@isldeur
How about just anyone who has been persecuted, it's all the same.
@NepheshAngel Yeah, that's true, but 15 people don't wanna admit.. too painful for them. :)
Amazing song.. lot of tears..
wow had to really search for this song. glad i did. beautiful song by neil
Very touching...
@boat725 This story is gut wrenching due to its portrayal of those who exist invisibly, You should try considering being African American and having so much unwarranted hatred levied upon you for a visible difference. Not a visible deficiency, but a visible difference.
THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO LOVE THIS SONG !!
What a wonderful music...even if this song is sad and brings tears form your eyes... or maybe also for this reason...
Every time I listen to this, I start crying! His voice is not even perfect, but just the way he sings it, it's touching! I don't think any singer can pull off a cover version of this. It's impossible.
@NepheshAngel How did you pick the name "Nephesh Angel"? You could also write it Nefesh, or נפש
Nefesh is the lowest form of the soul which comes to us gradualy.Nefesh enters as a vital soul at birth,at 3 is the ruach,13 is the Neshema,at marriage is Chaya and Yechida at age 21.But if you are not a M.O.T. , than nefesh is better than nothing.
FUCK! I can't listen to this song! I keep getting emotional!!!
@NepheshAngel why not? xP
what a moving song...hard not to get choked up listening to this....classic neil young...one of a kind haunting voice...this is why neil young is one of the all time great composers and performers....thank you so much for posting this.
thumbs up if u cry to this song!
15 people have no emotions
This song always gets me choked up. One of the few songs that moves me to tears.
CON ESTA CANCIO SE ME DESOJA EL TAMAL
Wonderful lyrics for a wonderful movie.
i was watching this with my gf and i thought i was gonna make it through the movie without shedding any tears, then the funeral scene came at the end and this song played, and i couldn't hold them in any longer
This song will always remind me/us not to be affraid...... of ourselves, and definately not the ones who are sick, that's about being afraid of us, not imagenary people, US, just US, we make the difference....but who are we? we're both the same!
This movie did kick ass. Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. Two awesome actors. Not thier best roles but still great . Tom Hanks best role was Forrest Gump and Denzel Washington's best role was in Malcolm X.
how pathetic it is that gay is being prejudiced only because of a pure emotion. that is even more ridiculous than being discriminated because of anything else. Love is what God gives, why he makes it so hard to take?
Undeniably haunting. You can feel the emotion drip from every lyric, chord and note. Young soaks us in a power so strong one cannot fail to be moved. The strength of this music cuts right through me yet despite its apparent sadness I find it strangely uplifting and positive. Is that just me ?
EVERY time. Tears. Gay or not, this film and song MUST move you.
a true masterpiece.
@montpelier42d i agree,such a sad,sad track
i agree , it's a real hit
who wouldn't cry to this ? - so much emotion in this voice , melody and related story !
so much emotion at listening to this - no one can describe my tears
I love this movie. Humanity has to win!!!!
Nice job, I love your effort, Brandon Ja'rod's new release due DEC. 2010 AMAZING!
My spine is in bits listening to this song due to the ridiculous amount of shivres its giving me. The piano fills between verses are as moving as the lyrics.
haw haw awesome gayness -- but a great song, def shud won oscar
I'm listening and crying...
Even the 'unemotional' KB is brought to his Knees with this - Sublime x
brutally sad!
Must rank with Samuel Barber's 'Adagio For Strings' as the most touching piece of music ever written.
the most beautiful song of the world! <3
Tell me I'm not to blame... I won't be ashamed of love.
Gives me chills every time.
If this song does not move you, then you may not be alive. Brilliant.
there are only two words that can describe this song, ( masterpiece ). got to be the saddest song, ever made,i love it!!!
This movie broke my heart:-( This Neil Young song is a beautiful, beautiful song:-) just so sad:-(
@qone1200 So do I! It's the mixture of the music and images of the character when he was a kid that gets me. The innocence of him as child knowing what he goes through as an adult. May only be a work of fiction but by god its still, as you said, touching. Beautiful song,. Brilliant movie!
