Young, Neil - Oh Mother Earth Lyrics
Oh, Mother Earth,
With your fields of green
Once more laid down
by the hungry hand
How long can you
And feed this world
ruled by greed
And feed this world
ruled by greed.
Oh, ball of fire
In the summer sky
Your healing light,
your parade of days
Are they betrayed
Who hold this world
in their changing hands
They hold the world
in their changing hands.
Oh, freedom land
Can you let this go
Down to the streets
where the numbers grow
Respect Mother Earth
and her healing ways
Or trade away
our children's days
Or trade away
our children's days.
Respect Mother Earth
and her healing ways
Or trade away
our children's days.

About the sun: oh ball of fire in the summer sky, your healing light, your parade of days. BRILLIANT!!!!!
PAWS UP !
No more Chem Trails, No more fracking, no more pipelines, no more water bottles and garbage in the oceans!
This moment, when the album, which such a song is in has WARNING! MODIFIED CONTENT.
So sad.
This song! I will never forget when I saw this in Dalhalla 2016! Never. Neil Young <3
The start of this song is identical to When I Survey The Wondrous Cross...Anyone know if this was intentional?
Saw him in Belfast a few weeks ago.. brilliant night..
The melody is from an old English folk song The River Is Wide, I believe. It is considered to be in the public domain.
+Greg LaPointe Thanks Greg
Van Diemen's Land by U-2 is another version of this song
I heard a live version of this recently and was completely blown away. Neil Young is a once in a lifetime kind of artist whose meaning is comes comes across through even wrong notes, miscues, his voice breaking at times, but has a deeply felt sense of letting the beauty of his music speak for itself. What a rare treasure he is.

i have been a huge Neil YOung fan from the olden days, but got involved in other things and lost track of him for the most part after the 1980s. i heard this song for the first time today on Amy Goodman's DEMOCRACY NOW when they played it during a segment about Obama's veto of the Keystone Pipeline. i feel a bit embarrassed!! what a beautiful song!
You've got some catching up to do! haha
Neil had a resurgence of sorts (some of his best material, actually) in the late 80s to most of the 90s. Check out the albums "Freedom" and "Weld." Outstanding stuff!
and Ragged Glory
Is there a studio version of this?
i just heard this for the first time today. after doing a little research, discovered it is from the 1990 album Ragged Glory. not sure if that one is studio or live though. hold on a second. i'll try to find it....
@SanFranciscoJames I think this is the version from Ragged Glory :P
no, this is album version
This is a live recording with studio overdubs. It was recorded at Farmaid. It is included on the Ragged Glory album.
I so love this song even though it makes me cry every frigging tome I listen to it. Sheer sad genius.
me too <3 <3 <3

A pledge of allegiance to our children. It's all about we....survival of the fittest just does not work.
What a beautiful melody/lyrics! And...the images you used are perfect!! Thanks! Eileen
