Young, Neil - Don't Be Denied Lyrics

When I was a young boy,
My mama said to me
Your daddy's leavin' home today,
I think he's gone to stay.
We packed up all our bags
And drove out to Winnipeg.

When we got to Winnipeg
I checked in to school.
I wore white bucks on my feet,
When I learned the golden rule.
The punches came fast and hard
Lying on my back
in the school yard.

Don't be denied, don't be denied.
Don't be denied, don't be denied.
Don't be denied, don't be denied.

Well pretty soon I met a friend,
He played guitar.
We used to sit
on the steps at school
And dream of being stars.
We started a band,
We played all night.

Don't be denied, don't be denied.
Don't be denied, don't be denied.
Don't be denied, don't be denied.

Oh Canada
We played all night
I really hate to leave you now
But to stay just wouldn't be right.
Down in Hollywood
We played so good

The businessmen crowded around
They came to hear the golden sound
There we were on the Sunset Strip,
Playing our songs
for the highest bid.
We played all night
The price was right.

Don't be denied, don't be denied.
Don't be denied, don't be denied.
Don't be denied, don't be denied.

Well, all that glitters isn't gold
I know you've heard
that story told.
And I'm a pauper
in a naked disguise
A millionaire
through a business man's eyes.
Oh friend of mine
Don't be denied.

Young, Neil Don't Be Denied Comments
  1. Brian Frost

Hey Neil..I know you're disappointed about this release. This song hit me hard. Just saying!

  2. Gabe Thornes

The fact that i’m still finding absolutely stunning songs and live takes a good 10 years after first listening to Neil is testament to his songwriting ability

  3. Charlie Jervis

Time Fades Away just may be Neil's best album, or maybe tied with a couple others.

  4. Neil Strauss

    Never give up!

  5. steven imeson

Killer album it's well balanced with hard rockers songs like L.A and time fades away accompanied with softer songs placed in between

  6. Stenson

    I prefer the Tuscaloosa version

Favorite song from Young for sure

  9. Charley Patterson

My first boyfriend and I used to jam to this song via cover band called Bone Dance. The drummer would belt this song out and I would sit up there on the stage with them, blowing bubbles from a plastic jar. I was in my twenties and had my whole life ahead of me, man...great times!! ^_^

  10. - XxJimmyPagexX -

    This song is so beast

  11. Jeff Kenny

I was late to the party finding out about this record. Just picked up a copy on vinyl, and I totally love it.

  12. secret owl

    This song makes me cry.

    Victor Hugo Zelaya lopez

Me too. The Neil's most sentimental is very emotional. This song would like to my love of my life, my Victoria, sure. I love It.

Time Fades Away is a 1973 live album by Canadian musician Neil Young. Consisting of previously unreleased material, it was recorded with The Stray Gators on the support tour following 1972's highly successful Harvest. Due to Young's dissatisfaction with the tour, it was not reissued on CD.

    Stan Pease

Because he was a beacon. Ahead of his time, and this wasn't what people were expecting. They wanted what they already had heard, and weren't ready to hear what he had to say, on Time Fades Away, and most people still aren't ready, still don't understand, maybe they never will. Oh well.

    Stan Pease

May well be my very favorite Neil young album. Neil young...the dream ..you told me to just keep playing (my guitar) and you'll be fine... I am...just fine now. Love you all, love you Neil.

  14. Professor Qi

Sound track of the awkward time in my early 20s. Damn Neil how did you know?

    Chris Valles

Ironically, that's me right now. Going into latter 20s

  15. art vallejos

I was born to rock I'll never be an opera star

  16. Tomas Geffen

The CD version available on NEIL YOUNG COLLECTION pt. 2

  17. Ed Monson

I don't understand why this album disappeared. One of my all time favorites ever.

    mcouzijn

It didn't disappear. Just took a long time to be re-released on cd.
