Yola - Lonely The Night Lyrics

All I had is gone now
Goodbye fell too hard and too soon
One more night until tomorrow to get through
Talking to your shadow in my room

All the stars are crying
They know they broke their promise to me
Once upon a time, I wished for a love like you
But I guess sometimes wishes don't come true

Broken hearts live alone
No one sees, no one knows what they know

Lonely the night
Lonely the night
Only the night belongs to those who've lost their love

Time can heal, so they tell me
I don't think I'll be that long
One more night feels like eternity right now
Every passing minute pulls me down

Empty arms could never hold
No one sees, no one knows what they know

Lonely the night
Lonely the night
Only the night belongs to those who've lost their love

Lonely the night
Lonely the night
Only the night belongs to those who've lost their love

Lonely the night
Lonely the night
Lonely the night
Lonely the night

Jeff William . The lyrics of the 4th verse last line are "every passing minute pulls me down (of the night). I did have to listen hard several times tho before I got it.

    J.... W....

@Mandy daly thanks. Made the change. Don't know what I was hearing.

    J.... W....

Jeff William . No problem, I appreciate your replying and going to the trouble of printing the lyrics, yola is an amazing lyricist :-)

    J.... W....

@Mandy daly No worries. Agreed! I think she deserves the same success as say Adele. She ought to be huge.

    J.... W....

Jeff William I totally agree, shes a very talented singer/songwriter and I believe her songs will be around for a long time

I am obsessed with this song! Love how well this showcases Yola's range and tone and I also adore the underlying 60's vibe!

    S.... T....

It's so good. This whole album is glorious.

I also discovered Yola while listening to NPR’s Morning Edition, thank you NPR and the person who posted this song. Yola’s music and voice are simply amazing, I liked this song from the first time I heard it even as a short sample in the podcast. Shady Grove sounds magnificent too. I am exploring more songs and the more I listen, the more fanatic I become of this artist. I will make Yola known by all the people I know.

  11. D.... M....

    Ab.So.Lute.Lee love this song!

  12. D.... K....

OMG, elements of the Wall of Sound and George Harrison-ish guitar. And that voice. Love this!

    D.... K....

Exactly! Just heard this song for the first time today and immediately wondered whether it was some previously unheard song George lent his talent to.

  13. J.... B....

I have just listened to a recording of the excellent, and superb Channel 4 Interview!

Despite, that it was the first time that I had heard about you, but I may have heard of your name but never heard any of your music, I was extremely impressed.

This is why I came to listen to at least two of your songs but ended up listening to your entire album that should be a huge success!

It is impossible to say why I like your music, but it reminds me of The Philharmonic Orchestra remastering Roy Orbison songs and some of Elvis Presley songs that takes the song nearer to perfection.
Like Roy Orbison, your music is unique and excellent!

    Good luck, in the future!

  14. T.... M....

Yola should DEFINITELY be considered to do a Bond theme.

  15. H.... B....

Im in love with a song <3 thank you

I, too, discovered Yola on NPR the other day. Every once in a while, I hear an album that blows me away on first listening, where I like every song, and that stands up to repeated listenings. This is one of those rare albums for me, and I can tell already that it will take its place in my pantheon of albums I never tire of. “Lonely the Night” is the can’t-get-it-out-of-my-head track at the moment — I’ve played it at least 20 times already. If Yola had released this album in 1969, she’d be an instant superstar. I hope there are enough people today who appreciate her talents that she at least becomes a cult favorite and has a long career ahead of her.

such an awesome post Bruce, and to your own point... it all starts with fans like yourself. thanks for spreading the word... and wait till you see her live, as it is even more remarkable. thanks for the support.

    B.... M....

I couldnt agree with your sentiments more, Yola has an awesome voice and rare talent. I have not got tired yet of "Lonely the night" and "shady grove," I think she would be spectacular live and hope to see her soon :-)

  18. R.... T....

Yola should sing the next James Bond theme song. Epic pipes!

    R.... T....

    True idea!

    R.... T....

Truth right there, I second that!

  19. J.... W....

Just got done listening to her on NPR - WOW! This is amazing. Wish Roy Orbison was still alive to do a duet with her - this is amazing music and her voice is powerful! Absolutely wonderful, Yola! Bravo!

  20. J.... R....

I discovered Yola by listening to Morning Edition on NPR, & She’s amazing! She’s got a voice & a style that’s like this new Americana, but she’s got a better voice than anyone in the biz! My goodness is she good!

    J.... R....

thank you for the support of such a remarkable artist John... dig it

    J.... R....

I dont know about the 'Americana" but I do feel a retro petula clark sort of sound?? I commented on this before and still hear it!

"you don't get over a broken heart, you just learn to carry it gracefully" - dear jens lekman says, and yola...this song, thank you!!!

  23. C.... V....

This song is a fantastic representation of the album--great vocal variety with intriguing music behind it and yet has that intoxicating nostalgic sound. A fantastic addition to the impressive Easy Eye Sound ranks!
