Yes - The Calling Lyrics

Feel the calling of a miracle
In the presence of the word.
Now we hold the right to rearrange
How the stories can be heard.

In the beginning is the future,
And the future is at hand;
I'll be calling voices of Africa
Be the rhythm to the plan.

From the Congo to Lenasia
Be the writing on the wall.
I'll be calling the colors of India
See the Asian life explode.

Head in to the headlight.
Don't turn from the rain.
There's a fire raging somewhere near,
Like a longtime friend who's
Seen it darker than ebony.
Take off on the turnpike
(Asking for the first call)
Give me more of the same
(Asking for a song)
There's a fire burning in my heart again.

I'll be calling the dragons of China;
See the dancers of the Nile.
See the wings of change are on display
This revelation mine.

Feel the calling of a miracle
In the presence of the word.
Head in to the headlight.
Don't turn from the rain.
There's a fire raging somewhere near,
Like a longtime friend who's
Seen it darker than ebony.
Take off on the turnpike
(Asking for the first call)
Give me more of the same
(Asking for a song)
There's a fire burning in my heart again.

Feel the calling of a miracle,
The revelation mine.

i choosed Yes at 14 when i was lookin for something more, and real inside. yes and peter gabriel were my real choices in that contemporary context. the problem of today is you have not something real so real at similar high intensity. nothing on the edge. yes genesis zeppelin king crimson majavishnu orchestra herbie weather and the rest, where is today the new music ? have i to listen just govt mule?

    X.... ....

ohhh sorry, i forget Brand X ! i love them

  9. X.... ....

from the finest trevor rabin ! a gift more after the past 80th, Yes had occasion to utilize a ready trevor rabin album to develop one of their own, i am very happy for that

Someone get this beautiful song on Spotify!!!

  11. N.... ....

Shame on Victory Records. If this record was considered a failure then it certainly wasn’t down to the music. The whole album is AMAZING and one of Yes’ best. Lack of promotion and a twobob record label was what killed it dead. I still listen to this regularly even after 25 years.

  12. D.... M....

awesome long been one of my favorites love abwh also

  13. O.... N....

This is a groundbreaking recording.. "The album was recorded onto hard disk at Rabin's home studio using an early version of the digital audio workstation software Digital Performer. Rabin and his engineer and mixer Michael Jay linked four Apple Macintosh computers to a single IBM machine, each running the digital audio workstation software Digital Performer developed by Mark of the Unicorn, and saved onto 12 GB Dynatec hard drives.[10][11] As they worked on the album, Rabin and Jay wrote down errors they encountered or new functions they needed to complete the recording process, to which the programmers would update the software with their new code.
Squire preferred the sound he got from his bass with the computer than previous digital tape systems that he had used. In its unedited form, the album took up over 34 GB of memory.[9][16] Production was delayed for a short while following the Northridge, California earthquake on 17 January 1994 to protect the equipment from damage caused by subsequent tremors.[16] The album was then mastered by Stephen Marcussen at Precision Mastering in Los Angeles.[7]" *snip* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_(Yes_album)#Production

This album isn’t availability as a download from any music service I can find. I found the CD on Amazon, but it was used and extremely expensive. Anyone know what the story is?

    R.... ....

RozitaVideo I ended up with a promo copy of this... taken from a classic rock radio station that was supposed to be giving it airplay...

  19. A.... ....

Awesome song/album, lousy artwork (they should have stuck with Roger Dean)...  :^)

  20. J.... L....

Had been a fan of Rabin's way before he joined yes having been a fan of Rabbitt and his solo work. Was totally jazzed when I saw him come onboard for the YES of the 80s. He kept them relevant, front and center. I will say however that I also liked their "mid-late-period of noodling" as some other commentor here called it. Going For The One and Tormato were released during my teen age years and I loved them and they got me started on Yes-with a little help from Roundabout of course...

  21. G.... F....

This song and the whole Talk album is overlooked due to the strength of Howe-era's The Yes Album, Fragile, etc. But Talk holds its own, makes no apologies, takes no prisoners & gets the girl like early 70's Yes did. A fantastic collection of songs here, starting with this one.

  22. L.... W....

they have enough songs with keyboard breaks I think they should leave this one alone on a musicianship level but other than that I love it can listen to it over and over and over yep yep go yes talk

  23. S.... L....

I have never heard this version before! I had the studio album and this is fantastic! I feel a little jipped!

  24. F.... A....

My favorite Yes song ever on the 90's!

  25. S.... S....

“And those He predestined, He also called; those He called; He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified” (v. 30).
    - Romans 8:29–31 In the Presence of The Word....The Word was in the Beginning with God. I had this CD for a long time but barely listened to it, always like Tales , Sound Chaser, and Close to the Edge. But after The Effectual Call of God, I somehow just per chance found this CD and started listening to it....and it helped for a while to grow closer to God in Christ. 'Go to this people and say, "You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving." 'For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.' "

  26. D.... B....

saw them do this in concert- making music for over 30 years, have they ever made a bad record? john anderson/trevor horne, chris squire, steve howe/trever rabin, alan white/bill bruford, rick wakeman/jeff downes/tony kaye- name me a more talented lineup if you dare?? you'd be wrong

  27. p.... ....

I've been going to see YES since 1976 and saw the Talk Tour this song is from, and I have never heard this version before.

  33. M.... R....

Extended version? Isn't that just another way of saying "album version?"

    M.... R....

Oh wait. I think this version is even different than the one on the album. Not sure. The middle part didn't sound too familiar though. I'll have to listen to the cd again.

    M.... R....

Pissed that it was only on the Japanese version?

    M.... R....

I don't know, the middle section seems really out of place, I'm glad the Western version omitted it.

    M.... R....

This version was added to the US re-issue on Spitfire back in 2002.

  34. T.... C....

Waiting to see ARW in concert in san antonio. it's gonna b awesome!!!! can't wait 😊

    T.... C....

Terri Carranza I saw them they were great but the setlist had barley any 90125 and post 9125 :(, just owner of a Lonely heart and rhythm of love, they did cinema and hold on too actually but that was it

  35. c.... k....

yet again YES I have never known a moment NOT a movement of YES that can t be appreciated SCREW the world that don't get it

  36. T.... ....

    Yes for a moment: 3:13-4:49.

    T.... ....

I actually like new yes more then old yes

    T.... ....

+Everything In the World Blasphemy! Nothing's better than old early 70's Yes. But this song is awesome.

  37. K.... S....

Saw and think a bit I understood the tech behind Chris fantastic sound when I saw them live in Helsinki. Split Rick-o-Sound with each of two micks connected to separate amp stacs. For bridge p.u. a set of Marshall JCM stacks and the neck P.U. to 4 stacks of Ampeg stacks. Graetest secret of all his attack presence of the music.. And the wonderful Moog Taurus earthquake machine at bottom played by his feet..

  38. M.... H....

The Filmscore they added at 3:45 ruins the Power of this great Song

    M.... H....

    Michael Hofer ikr

    M.... H....

No it does not! It enhances it!

    M.... H....

Actually, for a few seconds it sounds an awful lot like the dreamy middle section of Close to the Edge (Total Mass Retain).

  39. M.... H....

the Progression from 3:13 is pure Dixie Dregs. I think Trevor was a big Fan of them. They were not very popular. But all serious Rock/Jazz/Prog Musicians loved them.

    M.... H....

+Michael Hofer Popular enough to produce 16 albums over the years. But your point is well taken. This does have a Dregs sound at times.

    M.... H....

    Erich Lapton exactly!

  40. H.... W....

"In the beginning is the future".

  41. E.... ....

In the begging is the future and the future is at hand. such a true statement, and than I think about how the now is eternal. like my name Eric, Ernest, Edward, Belanger. look it up neighbors.

  42. C.... ....

forgot how good this album is....thanks for uploading it!

  43. T.... ....

A brief moment of longed for old Yes 3:20-4:50 or so in a sea of noise!

    T.... ....

I actually like new yes more then old yes although roundabout and don't kill the whale are both awesome

    T.... ....

And I've seen all good people that is good too

    T.... ....

But where you will be when you're not here?

    T.... ....

    what do you mean?

  44. m.... ....

I have listened to Yes for 45 years. I loved the work Rabin did with Yes. For sure not every tune but his pop coherency was a welcome departure from their late-mid-period of noodling. Loved this entire album. I put it in their best 5. RIP Chris Squire, you were the soul of Yes.

    m.... ....

Spot on review! I love the entire album, but I really dig the extended version of this tune.

I was very fortunate to score a pair of tickets at the Keswick theatre in Philly burbs to see ARW and we were on the 10th row.
Based on Trevor Rabin's interview prior to the tour, I was so psyched to hear Shoot High Aim Low. They didn't do that tune, and the set list was a little disappointing. I will not be bummed if they don't do all good peep hole and roustabout- (lol) songs I loved at first- but I realize they have obligatorysongs for new fans for identity purposes. I just hope I can afford the next tour later this summer- new music, Shoot Hi-- and def tunes from Talk. I expect they will be able to perform the more complex tunes assuming they will be better rehearsed.

  45. D.... R....

Gran versión de esta potente canción. Puro YES!

  46. e.... t....

The worst song from Yes's 3rd best album.

    e.... t....

    This song is my favorite

    No joke

  47. i.... ....

    God speed, Chris Squire

  48. 7.... Y....

Whilst Trevor Rabin is a genius musician that I have no doubt, I do believe the sound of Yes with TR is not for me.  I mean compare this to And You & I, sorry this is not Yes.

    7.... Y....

@72 Gen1esis I agree this is not vintage yes. but, life goes on, times change and bands must, too. The band desperately needed the infusion of energy that Rabin gave them at the time. Chris Squire does not begrudge this time period, why should we? Genesis had to change too but at least the Yes "Pop" sound, as displayed here, is totally epic. The Genesis fall into Pop drivel was infinitely more disappointing to me.

    7.... Y....

@jhelmwaterw Chris Squire was and always will be the most inspirational, pioneering Bass playing showman, rocker ever period
RIP Chris we shall not see another like you. Getting back to your comment whilst I also agree all bands must change it is my opinion that TR is not for me and is not the Yes sound.

    7.... Y....

@jhelmwaterw Endless Dream is a GREAT tune!

    7.... Y....

@72 Gen1esis This is just 1 of many incarnations of this ever evolving genius of a band! I love all incarnations but some people are entitled to their favorite songs and lineups!

    7.... Y....

    I think the is better

  54. M.... K....

i got married on the day i bought this record, in late 1994, in a police station. Paul Cauthen as my witness. hell he was best man!
we went out and took a picture in front of the Hamilton police sign w/ our hands up on it like we were all under arrest, and then went out and got party stuff,, this, and came back to the house. no shite. just Paul & I and Lisa and her girlfriend.
    great celebratory song:

this is YES's most Underated album, Dave Letterman heard this and it is one of his all-time favorites.

    E.... J....

Dude I totally agree! my dad had it. I always thought it was a really interesting album but its hard to find for some reason.

    E.... J....

wow, I just don't know what to say. I wonder what Paul thinks of it?

    E.... J....

@evolutionary transgression Yeah, I don't know where to get Dave's top 10 albums of all time?!?

  66. c.... ....

In the beginning is the *future*?!? (7 *whole* generations?)

    EDIT 3 years?!?!?!?!? hehehe

  67. S.... D....

Yes - 1994 , they were back and not to bad of a song cause it rocked. its time for Yes to go into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, with Kiss and Deep Purple, put your votes in today , the list of bands missing out of the Hall of Fame is to long

  68. s.... ....

I was always more fond of Rabin-era Yes than I was with the How-era. They released such great, tight, song-focused records, like "Talk". This is probably my third favorite Yes track, right after "Changes" (90125) and "Shoot High Aim Low" (Big Generator).

    s.... ....

Shoot High Aim Low - smashing track. Play that one loud!!!!

    s.... ....

ok but i prefer to listen final eyes and i'm running when something presses inside me

  69. t.... ....

This is the BEST song that Rabin did with Yes. The perfect meeting point between "old" Yes and YesWest. A classic that grabbed right away when I heard it on the radio.

  70. R.... C....

I was pretty obsessed with this song for a while. Now I am again :)

  71. J.... ....

It's great! Yes is one of the greatest bands ever, IMO.

  72. S.... D....

This song was my favorite song for a while, and it rocks
