Yes - South Side Of The Sky Lyrics

A river a mountain to be crossed
the sunshine in mountains sometimes lost
around the south side so cold that we cried
were we ever colder on that day a million miles away
it seemed from all of eternity

Move forward was my friends only cry
in deeper to somewhere we could lie
and rest for the day with cold in the way
were we ever colder on that day a million miles away
it seemed from all of eternity

The moments seemed lost in all the noise
a snow storm a stimulating voice
of warmth of the sky of warmth when you die
were we ever warmer on that day a million miles away
we seemed for all of eternity

The sunshine in mountains sometimes lost
the river can disregard the cost
and melt in the sky warmth when you die
were we ever warmer on that day a million miles away
we seemed from all of eternity

Yes South Side Of The Sky Comments
  1. e.... p....

Saw them in Nashville in 1972. 3 rows from the stage directly in front of Steve Howe, Waiting to see Bruford play but it was Alan White 😏. Incredible performance none the less!

  2. D.... P....

The river can disreguard the cost !

  3. J.... G....

Completeness PERSONIFIED...Percussionist both , Lead Guitarist, Lead Bass and Lead keyboardist all totally intertwined and integrated, note-for-note...truly and amazingingly hyphenated. I so admire such artistic talent. NO matter the venue. Art is art...NO matter the form of it! Anyone agreed?

  4. A.... W....

When you listen to this whilst cycling on a cold day with the wind streaking past you, puddles splashing around you, and you feel as though your fingers are gonna fall off.
    It's worth it.
One of the best tracks from Fragile.

  5. R.... P....

this is a great shroom song, just throwing that out there

  6. J.... F....

    Magnificent

    Beautiful.

    A true masterpiece.

  7. A.... ....

the perfect song for a steel ball run ed

  8. J.... B....

Jon Anderson describe this song as being in the Himalayas!! Very very high! Cold cold cold!

  9. R.... S....

this is one scary tune....porch music on halloween stuff...god bless yes

  10. C.... ....

    i love this album...

  11. P.... T....

Music has gone 27,000 light years BACKWARDS since the early 1970's.

  12. J.... B....

The odd counts and timing of the drums is such a masterpiece. Holds the song together in a fusion of jazz, rock, and maybe something even alien. First caught my ear as a young kid in 70s... have never heard anything like it since and never get tired of hearing it

  13. J.... G....

    Epic YES!!!

  14. J.... B....

We all are eternal! Never was there a time when the soul did not exist nor will be there a time when it does not! At some point just like a child thinks there's something better from home! The soul did the same! At that point you enter into the material world! Until you become pure in heart! Free from all material desires! They don't have materialism the spiritual sky

  15. J.... B....

John says move forward was my Sherpas only cry! Yes your Sherpa is your best friend! Especially if you're looking for great Yogi spiritualist in the Himalayas!

  16. J.... B....

He didn't manifest fish in the desert! He brought forth bread! This world is filled with a bunch of Looney tunes! You can't grasp higher consciousness! You're not your body! Your spirit the spirit is antimatter! I'm a scientist! Of bhakti yoga!

  17. J.... B....

And if you're dumb you can't purify your heart! You have to be pure in heart to enter the kingdom of God! Jesus never ate meat! Are you kidding me! A man with that much compassion? Would never kill anyting!

  18. J.... B....

Animals do not get a karmic reaction from killing other animals because they have no free will! We have free will! For every action there's a reaction! Pretty simple s***! If you eat animals you're in the mode of ignorance! Just means you're a dumb s***!

  19. J.... B....

If you kill and eat animals you eat and consume the violence they had to go through! You eat the violent energy of slaughter!

  20. J.... B....

    And don't kill the whale!!!!!!!!

  21. J.... B....

Yes is a band of higher consciousness! Don't eat animals! Don't kill babies in the womb! Life begins at conception! Don't pollute and loot the Earth!

  22. J.... B....

I think this song is about being very high in the Himalayan mountains! With cold in the way!

    J.... B....

The cold being Pagan Min (Farcry 4 joke)

  23. D.... ....

An expiration date is a deep condition to this world

  30. U.... ....

Finally getting into Yes for the first time, being a big Crimson fan. I see what all the hoopla on them was all about. I haven't even finished listening though this cut, but this song is a masterpiece. This is the stuff I aspire to as a budding guitar player.

  31. A.... S....

This song makes going for a walk feel ten times more epic.

  32. B.... N....

The piano sounds like it might be flatter at 5:16 than at 3:44

  33. O.... O....

Yes Fragile begins with lightning and ends with thunder! My first Yes album when I was 12 in 1975, and still my favorite Yes album today! Thanks for the post!

When I was 10 my favorite bands were Yes Genesis Pink Floyd Gentle Giant and Rush .... I'm 56 and love them more now!!! : )

  42. t.... ....

So much neat stuff happening just in this one song. The remaster makes it crystal clear. Listen through a good pair of headphones. There is not a lot of chance that music like this will ever be again created in our social media age. People's foci are just too scattered. ADD society. I am sure that this will be one of the musical peaks for all eternity to be well remembered hundreds of years from now ... if we don't have another dark ages.

  43. L.... M....

If you want playlists, come to my channel, i have a lot of playlists from a lot of bands

  44. l.... ....

259 people have no taste in masterful musicianship, song writing and probably kicked their dog today.

  49. t.... ....

l'm going to repeat the TOP comment! ''One of the best songs they ever did!'' ~ neile2001

  50. M.... ....

I've never seen anyone note that the section from 3:18 to 5:20 is the first time that Squire sang "lead" with Yes. I'm assuming he wrote that section. There are no lyrics, but that's him out front. I don't think you really hear him out front again like that until 90125 (or maybe Drama). Bruford is his usual extraordinary self in this section, also. There was no other bass-drums duo like those two, IMO.

  51. T.... G....

    THIS SONG ROCKS!!!!!!

  52. M.... B....

Roger Dean actually understood the value of perspective when drawing the planet picture for this album,,what a real planet that wasn't a flat plane like the one we live on would look like.

    M.... B....

    Shut the FUCK up.

    M.... B....

    thanks for the heads up

  53. c.... ....

And now we live in times that *poof* all this great music is gone. Not even playing it on satellite radio.

    c.... ....

Bro, fuck the radio. You listened to it 2 days ago. Music like this never really fades, even if just one person is listening to it.

  54. c.... ....

Chris Squire best base player ever. Love McCartney, Geddy etc. tho

    c.... ....

    Agree, bro!

  55. O.... R....

"So cold that we cried …" This song and "Starship Trooper" are my favorites.

    O.... R....

    Amazing songs!🙌

  56. r.... ....

This album was killer. This album was surrealist with a raw edge. This album was bright and dark at the same time in a way that Yes never duplicated. This is like Tolkien without the sentimental fairy B.S., The soundscapes on this album are raw, rough and sometimes desolate...abbreviated by the inclusion of action, drama, humor and melodic invention. Eddie Offord did what needed to be done with this music. Truly a work of art. Not even the Beatles pulled a concept like this one off.

    r.... ....

Agree! Yes is the best band ever!

  57. w.... s....

Saw them in the r1978 again 1984 1988 heard they played this 1977 missed it one of my favorites 😎🎵🔊

  58. C.... ....

Dayum that piano/keyboard part ohhhh my gawd it's like the softest nicest fire still just the right melody as so for it not to turn to a rap melody yet still so good like a jazzist -and yes I made anew word just for now nice it is

  68. J.... ....

👽A live event with these boys has always been mind blowing mates!!! We blasted off so many times to the tune mates, peace n love to all

  69. M.... E....

No wonder Jethro Tull wanted Steve Howe!

    M.... E....

Really? Martin Barre ain't no slouch neither.... Martin on marimba. Hoooray

  70. J.... F....

Jon Anderson's vocal artisty is like a breath of heaven and Rick Wakeman's keyboard solo is just pure magic. And the vocal harmonies are like an angelic choir. I love this song!!

    J.... F....

Yes, but also Bruford´s proficiency on drums.

  71. K.... ....

So what do you listen to?
    Me: yes

    G.... ....

    Shut up.

    G.... ....

    Hilarious and original

  80. P.... T....

I saw the 35th Anniversary tour of Yes at MSG in 2004 with the best lineup Howe, Wakeman, Bruford, Anderson and Squire. Jon Anderson said that they had never played this song live. But they did that night for the first time. The vocal harmonies in this song are like listening to a choir of angels sing.

    P.... T....

Bruford left the band in 1972. He returned for the Union tour in 1991, but aside from that he never played with them again, so you must have seen Alan White. I don't know if there's a live recording of South Side of the Sky with Bruford on it. If there is, I'd love to hear it.

  81. C.... R....
