Yello - Dr. Van Steiner Lyrics
I can't separate your fiction from fact
You're lost, I know you're trying to wind your way back
You've been talking as fast as you can
I'm not listening anymore
You're changing all the rules
You're taking advantage of a fool
Good evening
I'm Ed Burroughs
And the name of this show is "Person To Person"
Tonight we're visiting the home of a very famous motion picture
and television director
Dr. Van Steiner, I'm very sorry I'm unable to attend this tremendous
occassion being given in your honor

The first sample, with the host of "Person to Person," is from an early Muppets sketch.

Anybody hearing a bit of Paul Frees in that telephone voice?
Love all of the songs on this album. ~YELLO~ One Second
Ohicu812 one of the BEST albums of that decade!
Could the song be named after Jakob Steiner, a Swiss physicist who created the Stelling van Steiner (Steiner's Theorem), which is also known as the Parallel Axis Theorem? Is this an abstraction of the themes of the song? And further, who is Dr. Hirsch from the song Sometimes (Dr. Hirsch) on Stella? The name Hirsch isn't even mentioned in the song. And who is Stella anyway? Stanley's wife? And what's a Bostich? A misspelling (Bostitch) of the power tool manufacturer? That Dieter, what a card.
Ugh, who would have thought a Yello song could be quite that dark . . . assuming we're correct with our interpretation . . .
I think you have to be German, it's a WW2 thing
Stella - there so had to be a name of the hero (or heroines) from the movie a Lightmaker who was going to make Dieter. We hear Stella's shout from a cave in composition of a Stalakdrama. As a result Dieter has shot the film later and I don't know whether there was this Stella there.
And it was ironically discovered in 1822 by a Belgian guy, which makes the name "Yperit" somehow home-grown (nevertheless, it´s a nasty thing being first use by the German army)
@nuclearcasserole mustard gas is yellow?
This song is embedded in my heart forever. The line "baby, you're changing all the rules" really hit me when my lover died of AIDS. The orchestration made it all better. Beautiful.
If you really want a strange angle on this song, look up Rudolph Steiner and Satanism... Who knows what Yello had in mind ???
+ted norton It's Van Steiner not Rudolph Steiner.
+Larry Appleton and just WHO is this Van Steiner.... ???
+ted norton also I said "if you want a strange angle." I did not say who it was or was not.
Thank you for your contribution.
always glad to stir up trouble.
Loved this the first time I heard it, almost 30 years ago. And I love it still!
My husband and I fell in love to this. We felt, and still feel, "we are changing all the rules". Thank you for your posting x
1:46 is just magic
+Ebenezer Kalarama my favorite part, too -- some of my favorite music in the world happens right then. :):)
Great song, one of the best albums ever. Thanks for posting.
My 15 year-old self had good taste when I bought the ONE SECOND cassette!
Anyone know whatever happened to Rush ? One of the most stunning voices I have ever heard in my life . I patterned what I wanted to hear from a female singer in electronic music after listening to Rush with Yello. She set the bar .
+ted norton She's performed with several artists both before and since Yello, for example with Dee C. Lee on "Shrine," with John Coates and friends on "Jazz Classics," and on more than one Carmel recording - "More more more" being the first that springs to mind. But these are not easy to source. There are some available on YT, but Ms. Winters is seldom in evidence visually. Shame, because as well as being a stunning vocalist, she's also very pretty...
+Robbert Voges I agree wholeheartedly. Boris and Dieter certainly understood her talent - after all, they even got Shirley Bassey in to sing some vocals for them, like "The Rhythm Divine," which I find absolutely compelling...So having Rush do a Bond theme is simply a no-brainer. Do you think it will ever happen?
I just hope someday someone will release a CD with all her un-released works, songs ..projects......But then again there are so many great backing vocalists one never hears from again :-( I will please myself with the fact that the "I never knew...How Much I caaa-red"..line from Vicious Games is already very Bond-esque :-) @Tom Foyle
+Tom Foyle If you have those titles and know how to add the information to Discogs.com , you'd be doing a great service. cheers.
Don't have that sort of expertise, I'm afraid. But if you go to Google and type "Rush Winters, vocalist" you'll get everything that's available...
I can't separate your fiction from fact... most beautiful voice.pure Yello.
Timeless music of the highest quality and distinction.

I think the police siren sample is from Dirty Harry! I just wasn't able to find it again. I didn't want to stop during the movie to replay it. :(
