XTC - What In The World?... Lyrics

2032
Housewives shock in blue
What in the world is it coming to
What in the world

2033
Cannabis in tea
What in the world. Acid is free
What in the world
If daddy could see today
he'd be turning in his grave
If mummy could see the way
The boys and girls and the manner in which
they talk to their parents

2034
Women fight the wars
Men are too bored, they're scrubbing floors
Men are too bored
They're staying at home
doing the chores
What in the world
Do you remember when this life
was in perspective and the grownups were respected
They'd give up a seat on the bus
Open your door with no fuss

2035
The whole world's one beehive
Throw us a line you might be in time
Throw us a line
What in the world
Who gets the girl
What in the world

This Pairs Absolutely Perfectly with Ween's Chocolate & Cheese. (and A Nice Pair, obv.)

  2. L.... K....

The DR is in THE house! I LOVE the Dukes and got Chocolate (etc/
XTC) at my local Vinyl store. Thanks SO much for this, TODAY/Needed. x.

    L.... K....

Yes I did make the video, thank you. I did a video for the entire 25 O' Clock EP, but it's been blocked worldwide by YouTube in recent months.

    L.... K....

@DrTomoculus Damn! I'd love to see:) Ever think about asking for a SUPER FAN ALLOW? It does result in $ for bands..I'm all FOR DIY:) x.

  3. T.... ....

    This is brilliant, thanks

    T.... ....

Thank you. The full 25 O' Clock "movie" has been blocked worldwide, so I'm glad this can still be seen

    T.... ....

@DrTomoculus Back when I was in college in the 80s i took acid to this album and late 60s psychedelia. Wish I woulda had these visuals then haha

  4. O.... F....

If daddy cudd see us now, heed be dancin on his grave*

  5. K.... C....

OMG! How perfect is this? Daft lyrics and authentic psychedelia. I want acid in MY tea!

  6. A.... D....

These freides are so talented. Surpassed the beatles by far. Not music for the masses. Trade-off.

  7. A.... D....

Thanks for the song. Much better than the Beatles! Super-psychedelic umbrage. Rarely seen. Maximum brain persons.

  8. C.... H....

Along with Tears for Fears, XTC -- er, the Dukes of Stratosphere -- grasps the essence of psychedelic-era Beatles, especially Paul's version, better than anyone. Incredible effects and bass lines.

    C.... H....

@ Carl Horowitz I completely agree! I think Roland and Curt are the Andy and Colin of their day. A lot of similarities, not just with the music but circumstances: pretty bass player and an 'idiosyncratic' guitarist - ahem!

  9. J.... M....

This is the greatest album no one's ever heard of. Every time I take a spin of Collideascope, I just can't leave the Dukes playlist!

    J.... M....

I fondly refer to it as 'The Best of The Music We Missed, Sorry Son'

  10. B.... C....

Its like the 60s if they had better sound engineers

    B.... C....

    so true haha

  11. M.... P....

Most people don't realize that this was Andy and co's bit of fun. They really didn't take this seriously. It stated as "Let's see how how well we can replicate the psychedelic 60's". Well they bettered it.

    M.... P....

Just because it's fun doesn't mean it's not deadly serious.

    M.... P....

    not bettered but f...brillant...

    M.... P....

    Absolutely

    M.... P....

Actually, pretty much everyone realizes that.

  12. A.... G....

    What in the world
    Acid is free

  13. A.... E....

Never herd of them  don't do anything  for me

  14. M.... K....

1985's "Rage in the Badlands" skateboard contest video brought me here (Lance Mountain run).

    M.... K....

I read this and thought, what an obscure link, had to check it out!

    M.... K....

Glad you checked it out! It's wild to have seen these skate videos some 30+ years ago, hear the songs and have no idea what they were my whole life until the modern day internet came along and a program called Shazam finally comes along. It allowed me to find the artists/songs that I have been hearing my whole life and had no idea who/what they were and no real way to find out. It's like finding treasure. It truly is a magical and meaningful experience for me to find this stuff. 'Rage in the Badlands' was my first skate video contests I ever saw as a little kid around 1985-1986 and it's still one of my favorites to this day....along with a lot of the tunes played in the video.

Here's the link....6:35 minute mark is where this song kicks in for Lance's run for you or anyone else here interested:

Thanks for sharing this gem! Thanks for chiming in.

    M.... K....

Thanks for the link! That's awesome. I remember hearing a portion of The Dukes of Stratosphear's Psonic Psunspot at a friend's basement party and asking "who is this?"

    M.... K....

My pleasure, was glad to share the little story along with link. Lucky for you, it seems that you easily found out who the group was that was playing in that friend's basement. For me, it took 30+ years to come across the artist. In all honesty, I thought the group was a trippy psychedelic band from the mid-late 1960's that I like so much and spent a lot of time listening to streaming psychedelicized radio in hopes in ever hearing what I now know of the Dukes of Stratosphear. To my amazement, the group first came out in 1985 and was inspired by the 60's type psychedelic rock of that era. Psonic Psunspot is an amazing album now that I listened to it!

By the way, if you like this sort of music, be sure to check out Jacco Gardner, a newer and pretty young artist who does this sort of thing these days with the whole 60's psychedelic type sound. Good stuff! Here's a link to him if at all interested:

Thanks again for posting the Dukes! Awesome stuff...appreciated!

    M.... K....

XTC understood the Sixties more than most Neo Psych bands from the 80's

  19. m.... ....

Wonderful - sonically *and* visually - thanks so much :)

    m.... ....

    Thanks and you're welcome ;)

  20. l.... ....

Bass is great and reminds me of the bass on the song "Rain" by The Beatles.

    l.... ....

Exactly my thoughts too......The bass on this is killer....

    l.... ....

Colin is so underrated as a bassist.

    l.... ....

@Ed Lawn Andy actually played bass on this one. Apparently, they had a tough time learning the chords, so Colin played rhythm guitar while Andy played bass.

  21. e.... b....

XTC and Producer John Leckie make for brilliant pairing. It just doesn't get any better than this, Kids!

    e.... b....
