XTC - We're All Light Lyrics
And I won't take from you
Don't you know
'Bout a zillion years ago
Some star sneezed, now they're paging you in reception
Jack and Jill-ion years ago
Some dinosaur dropped the pail when it saw our reflection
Don't you know
We're all light
Yeah, I read that someplace
Don't you know
We're all light
Yeah, I read that someplace
Before indecision can bite
Don't you know, in this new dark age
We're all light
Don't you know
'Bout your fingertips away
There's a universe of atoms that thinks you're real something
Don't you know
Just a couple of lips away
Is an evolutionary bean-feast whose insides are jumping
Don't you know
We're all light
Yeah, I read that someplace
Don't you know
We're all light
Yeah, it's a bumper sticker someplace
So you won't mind if I kiss you now
We may hear the angels recite
Don't you know, in this new dark age
We're all light
And I won't take from you what you can't take from me
And I'll leave nothing here that you can't use upon your trip
And I won't take from you what you can't take from me
And I'll leave nothing here but love and milk aplenty for your tea, yeah
Oh
Don't you know
Upon the pillion of time's bike
We roar onto the stage, and too soon we're dead center
Don't you know
Buffalo Bill-ions raised his sight
He's picking off the whole herd as soon as we enter
So you won't mind if I kiss you now
And maybe come on in for the night
Don't you know, in this new dark age
We're all light
We're all light
And I won't take from you (You know, where you itch is a little tiny switch, and if you let me in, I can show you just the pin)
What you can't take from me (That you put in the slot when the element gets hot and the stuff just pours out)
And I won't take from you (All light)
What you can't take from me (Kiss me now, just kiss me now)
And I won't take from you what you can't take from me
And I won't take from you what you can't take from me
And I won't take from you what you can't take from me
And I won't take from you what you can't take from me
And I won't take from you what you can't take from me

You know where you itch
There's a little tiny switch
And if you let me in
I can show you just the pin
That you put in the slot
When the element gets hot
And the stuff just pours out!
I really like XTC as a band. Unfortunately I have read that Andy is an atheist. I did not like the song Dear God because it was blaming God for the bad stuff going on in the world. Too sad.
The truth is that God is Light. In Him there is no darkness.
This is just beyond words!
Jack and Jillion years ago some star sneezed and now here we are using language and music and kissing. Astonishing round up of deep time and the human condition. And here we are!
There's only one word to describe this: genius.
So much love for XTC.
I had the first bumper sticker....
Did I miss my comment? Love it!! Still do.. And always will..
Partsy is a genius.
XTC songs are the ones I want to listen to again when they're half over.
I'd like to meet the 8 people who voted this down. I'd give them a ruddy good talking to
hahahaha!
Chill - everyone is entitled etc...
.........and they bloody well deserve it too!
I can't be the only one here from the Earth and Environmental Systems podcast, right?
Haha same! I had to Google a bastardization of what I thought I heard the lyrics were. But at least I found it! :D
In this new dark age. I never get tired of XTC.
Nice representation.
Hey thanks! Love this song. And it seems the very thing we need these days. In this new dark age, indeed.
One day the universe will disintegrate into photons and whatever created it will be singing this song.
While millions are dying, like in the "Noah" flood? By then, my eternal agonising torture (for nothing but honestly being unable to recognise the existence of this creator) will have run into billions, if not trillions, of years. Nice.
Actually, it was Einstein who said this.. not Tesla.
“Matter is Energy. Energy is Light. We are all Light Beings.” - Albert Einstein
At least some nob didn't attribute it to Elon Musk or some damn thing.
I read somewhere that the quakers say, when they bury someone: "Fromlight have you come, to light you shall return". I found it so beautiful I used this expression at both my parents' funerals.
Cannot shake this tune. I have played it incessantly for weeks.
I can relate! Had the same situation with Red Brick Dream on The Big Express lp. The song would just stay with me for what seemed like 3 weeks. Some of their stuff just stays with like that!
They are just THAT IMPACTFUL!
I have too.. Both versions.. Where Andy sings the ending part version vs. The bassist? But both are great I just discovered this on my Pandora station.. Just a bit ago.. Just have never been the most popular band in American radio airplay.. But always liked them..
Some star sneezed, now they’re paging you in reception. Brilliant. And if you listen to the demo versions you can see just how much honing is done creating these songs. Modern day musical masters.
Don't you just love XTC? the most under rated band in the universe.
Yes. I do! <3!
I do, and I rate them very highly, so not underrated :)
what BULLsht!!! LOOK at that planet!!!! where are all the lines? no US/Britain/NL? no S America/Africa/ASIA???? wt fuckity fuck FUCK? and of COURSE, no one EVER remembers Oceania...much less the photoshopper who did THIS! disgraceful!!!! ; - )
hahahahaha!
Only Andy Partridge can summarize the entire history of the universe in one sentence.
Yup! He's a genius. 🤙🏻
"Don't you know in this new Dark Age...we're all light"
So truthful in 2017.
TheReivenlocke i
"i read that some place"... tesla said we are light.
He was right. Everything is light.
Hola soy el Vicho
It' s true................I think.
those last two xtc albums were chock full of potential. such great lyrics and tunes. just felt they needed better production on about 2/3 of the tracks. not enough time, but so true we're all light!
that fake globe bugs me tho...i just can't believe in it anymore! i do believe in light, as a thing, i'm just no longer sure earth is a proper planet- and the moon is a serious problem!
I'm the last person who should comment on moon texture maps. Best to avoid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lvu9wpOU62Y
What they needed was more David Gregory on them
tinfoilhatter Are you talking about the Mandela effect?
. . . rather not enough money than not enough time. It's some of the best material of their entire catalogue.
Though I agree with Mr. Moulding, it should have been one album, not two. Each of them has 3 or 4 weaker compositions. They should have used the best songs for one album, it would have easy been a classic, their most perfect album masterpiece.
Then release the XTC-rocky version of the album, so that Mr. Gregory has something to do, too. It may have sold better. And a year later with the money in hands release the second version as a pop-orchestral edition. Super-lush, just as what they did with Apple Venus 1.
