XTC - Say It Lyrics

Open up your heart
Say the things you want to say
Maybe a delicate subject
But say it anyway

Say it very soon
When you take your tea and toast
Don't leave the house without saying
Whose toast you love the most

'Cause there's some
Who wished they had said it
At the cemetery gates
Don't be the one to heave a sigh
Say it now, don't wait!

(Go on say it)
Say it now
(Go on say it now)

Say it anywhere
Even on a crowded train
The eight thirty one to Euston
Won't be the same again

Say it to the ones
Who brush your collar everyday
And stick around in December
As they did in May

'Cause there's some
Who wished they had said it
At the cemetery gates
But we'll never make that mistake

Let's say it anyplace
Let's say it face to face
Say it for goodness sake
...Now

Lovely song , was the opening track from the recent TC&i gigs so it was the first XTC song ive heard live so it is a very special track to me.

say it for goodness sakes now ❤️

This is the last song Colin ever recorded for XTC. The band was pretty much done, Andy and him hated each other and they wouldnt record together so Colin figured out that this could be his last chance to have the song released, so he went to the studio and recorded the song all by himself. Glad he did it.

I had no idea that is very interesting especially since I would rate this as a top5 xtc song.

XTC The joy of my life.

  14. d.... ....

I played drums on this - but that was in my basement by myself. Charming number for sure. God Bless these boys - such a wonderful addition to the happiness of my life. Thank you bunches!

    d.... ....

Sure wish I could play drums with someone cool again!

  15. b.... d....

    tasty guitar break mid song

  16. m.... s....

Voice of the Beehive also have a song  called Say It, which is also really good.

  17. s.... d....

    i miss this band

  18. p.... r....

this and spiral what a way to say bye thank you xtc for being there

  19. S.... H....

See an unlikely parallel between XTC and NIN in that true artistry/unique talent goes largely unappreciated nowadays while bands like Slipknot garner 85 million hits.

  20. p.... ....

Sounds like the opening to a tv comedy starring Nigel Havers.
    Ermmm
    Your home early darling.

  21. 3.... W....

Nice! This should have been on Wasp Star :-)

  22. s.... ....

    Spiral is ahead :(
    Unfair!!

  23. R.... V....

COOL, Thom!! Wish I could've played drums on it. XTC, if you're looking for a drummer...25 years with a band, plus nearly 30 on my own.

  24. A.... L....

Colin's been working on music a little bit recently according to the Chalkhills website.

How about if we can get this song on a new XTC release? I'd like it to be in my repertoire of XTC songs in iTunes!

  25. A.... L....

Look up the lyrics, They're a treat.

  26. A.... L....

Andy tweeted that he didn't play in this track and "This is Colin Moulding and Pugwash, Basically."

  27. J.... B....

I played some piano on this. I've no idea how much remains of what I actually played though and how much got patched up or replaced. I remember being a very young lad, really really nervous and making a real meal out of it. I really don't know. Anyhow it's a massive honour, even if it's just a note or two surviving :-)

  28. J.... M....

This band was / is The Beatles version 2.0. They should have been huge. Absolutely one of my fave bands of all time.

  29. S.... M....

There may still be hope for a joint effort between Colin and Andy (maybe even Dave–now with Tin Spirits?), as Colin seems to be at least partially back into the music business, participating in Billy Sherwood's Prog Collective in 2012. Anyway, it's his life, and we shouldn't make demands on him.

  30. s.... ....

    Go away!!!!!!!! Lucky fella....

  31. j.... p....

I so much agree with you...

  32. R.... ....

That's pretty damn cool, no other way to say it, it's a wonderful song that says something meaningful. Way to go.

  33. c.... ....

They really peaked right at the end when they quit. A shame they don't record more stuff together or even as solo artists.

  34. O.... ....

I play Mellotron on this tune and I'm very proud that I did.....Thomas (Pugwash).

    O.... ....

    What a great experience!

    O.... ....

I sure would like to have a mellotron player!

    O.... ....

Wow! This is a great song (especially the Mellotron bits!). I've never heard it before. Just watched the XTC: This is Pop doc. One of the best pop bands ever.

  35. L.... ....

I love it!!! More people in my generation need to know about this band!

  36. s.... ....

Colin, thought I'd just say: you are a fabulous songwriter.

  37. j.... p....

    Colin Moulding.. one and only!

  38. P.... ....

    Great band. Nice wee song.
Anyone any idea when that 'XTC Chronology' book is out and when and where it's available?

  39. 3.... ....

    My favorite Colin song...

  40. f.... ....

    one of my favorite songs

i can't believe it wasn't on the album!

  41. T.... ....

Wow. Sounds like George Harrison playing with the Beach Boys. Awesome.

  42. o.... ....

I like it. It's very similar to "Frivolous Tonight" on Apple Venus Vol.1, but better!

  43. s.... ....

Say it to the ones who brush your collar everyday and stick around in December as they did in May...

  44. k.... ....

@ArbeiterInnenlieder Really? Good drums, imo - thanks, pal! :-)

  45. K.... B....

    @kettlezone
Colin's son Lee Moulding is on drums, as far as I remember.

  46. P.... C....

Thanks for posting this - first time I've ever heard it!

  47. b.... ....

Thanks my fellow XTC fan for posting this! Cheers!

  48. k.... ....
