XTC - Rocket From A Bottle Lyrics

Birds beware, expect me up there
me and air are feeling light today
jets should hide, I'll fly alongisde
me and pride are bolted tight today

I've been set off by a pretty little girl

I'm like a rocket from a bottle shot free
I've been just explosive since you lit me
I've been up with the larks
I've been shooting off sparks

and I'm feeling in love

I'm a rocket from a bottle shot free
I've been just explosive since you kissed me
I've been up in the clouds
I've been shrugging off shrouds

and I'm feeling in love

Hate step back, my smile might just crack
can't stop grins from going wide today
hell look sharp, angels play your harp
I feel strong like the tide today

    criminally under-rated & ignored band...

    d.... o....

You are totally wrong....college radio played them endlessly and the were very popular...everywhere

    d.... o....

@James Bell Jr not totally wrong..
yes, they did get some air play back then, but they are not celebrated today as much as they should be...
they really don't get the love they truly deserve...

My thinking is a few years back he was working with barry andrews again, i think i saw it on myspace. must have been 15 but damned if he's not THE best pop songwriter who ever lived. #1

  14. B.... N....

This music sounds like no other inspired nervous and sormetimes It reaches jazz(Mermaid smiled, Ladybird ,That is the way That is love) then I take off.No matter Who categorizes You'll always keep this privileged place between m'y ears.

  15. T.... J....

New wave, beatlesque, melodies, harmonies, lovely heavy bottom end, cool lyrics, innovative guitar sounds, etc. These guys were one of the greatest rock and roll bands in music history.

    T.... J....

by far.....and although there are in fact some "beatlesque references" ....this band is much more than that...incredibly original and never duplicated. In their own league creatively. One of the all time greatest bands for all their own reasons.

  16. P.... W....

This and every one of XTC's songs(including "Dukes" and "Plasticland" tunes) are part of a standalone prophecy about the fourth battle of good and evil that must be fought to end the Age.

This song is about the lighter than air crafts (hydrogen filled) that the CIA are going to use against the citizens of California in order to gain the element of surprise.

The Beatles called these "dreadful flying glove" in their prophetic foretelling that is veiled in hermetic script. "yellow submarine" in hermeticia is reversed to "blue flying machine".

The "pretty little girl" is the patron goddess of California and Etruscan goddess of wisdom and warfare, the great and wise Minerva.

Minerva and I will soon begin to criss cross the state on a campaign to bring understanding to the masses. it won't take many of these crafts that are made "invisible" with phased array optics, falling to earth in Hindenburg style to get your attention.

The last line makes reference to the flooding of the CIA's tunnel system which caused a set back in their operations but was virtually unseen.

while I pondered the best way to effectively bring these idiots back down to earth, Minerva, wisely suggested the pyrotechnic approach.

She's pretty straight forward but you definitely do not want to piss her off.

think I'm kidding? you just need to be patient and watch the central valley for burning nerds falling from the sky. it's hard to find unsafe and insane fireworks here, but YouTube has some great instructional videos about rocketry.

yes! plasticland was the one they got away with. the song,"Trap door shoes" is about the tunnel system that the Beatles referred to as the "sea of holes".

    J.... B....

Overthought by a factor of a zillion.

    J.... B....

Mr. Jeffery Barber: This is simply a clever love song with decent metaphors, you silly, silly person.

    J.... B....

Hug a tree or two 4 fucks sake... That's 3 2n 4. Calm down mucker.

    J.... B....

I don't know. This man may be on to something.

  20. P.... D....

    lovely song
    Andy Partridge

  21. R.... D....

    pure power pop confection

  22. E.... G....

Anyone get the great joke in this song? There's a modulation in the opposite direction of a classic cheesy pop song move. . . right at the end of the guitar solo. . . .

    E.... G....

Erich, the modulation that you refer to actually indicates to those that understand that this song is offered up in hermetic script.

the entire discography of XTC is a prophetic foretelling but parts of it are esoterically veiled.

The fact that you're thinking about it is great. I've been working at interpreting the entirety of their discography and there are a lot of nuances like the modulation you mentioned that make it hard to get.

absolutely every one of their songs is veiled understanding about what's coming to pass in our foreseeable future, all laid out in a timeline of some sort, where the Beatles prophetic venture is less of a timeline.

the eighties band, Killing Joke, discography is laid out in events and the songs on each album are incidences that occur within that timeframe.

sounds crazy, I know, but all really happening. we do reside in a crazy world.

I've posted quite a bit regarding these prophetic songs on my Google + page, if you're interested in the "joke" that you're not getting. that joke is in every one of their songs, and I've been going it alone for too long. I am always welcoming of others thoughts on the subject.

    E.... G....

Yeah it has that little drag

    E.... G....

Well at that point in the song the bottle has finally shot free, and is now soaring over the clouds in a more relaxed fashion. (Andy has finally shot his load!)

  23. G.... W....

    Super band too often ignored.

  24. t.... ....

    This is sooo cute...Great!

  25. P.... W....
