How so many kings can be so easily led astray, by devious queens. How so many kings can walk away from precious little princes and princesses. How many bedtime stories have no happy ending 😢

I don't believe this one has a happy ending. It can be interpreted either way, but I think the mother is telling her child the story she wishes were true. "Just another bedtime story..." If she'd gotten the happy ending, she wouldn't still cry over the story. :(

I agree, she should have the title, but that title was given to Kitty Wells, Loretta Lynn and lately Reba McIntire. However, Tammy IS STILL THE FIRST LADY OF COUNTRY MUSIC!

My mother use to sing this song to me when I was little. I didn't understand till later that the story rang true of us. But our king stayed with the lady who took him away. I eventually forgave my father, (who has passed on) and was fortunate enough to get a great step-dad (who also passed on years ago). So sometimes a door of sadness closes and another door opens that is filled with love & laughter that drowns out the sadness. The song always brings bitter-sweet memories and tears, but I still love to listen to it and remember being in my mother's arms while she sang it. Lord how I miss her too!

+NightMaiden I used to listen to this on my Mom's record player. It was true for us too. My mom and dad used to break up and get back together all the time. He would usually get with someone else in the time being. I was 10 the last time it happened. He and my mom divorced and he married the other woman. 6 months later, He was already in the process of getting divorced from her and trying to contact my mom but she didn't give him the chance. I know she would have forgiven him again but he was in a car accident and passed away. So growing up I would listen to this and cry and think about the what could have happened if he hadn't passed away.

I remember this from my childhood. Not everyone's cup of tea but it's a cute memory.

I know what you mean, It's not country anymore it's been completely destroyed it probaly won't ever go back to the way it was but TNN is coming back so they'll probaly run the old shows so I'm hoping they'll focus on the legends of yesterday
