Wonder Years, The - Thanks For The Ride Lyrics

I washed chain grease and blood off of my hands in the ocean;
I let the salt water rinse the dirt away.
I stood calm in a room I hadn't been in in a decade.
I felt dizzy, used to stand here everyday.

Wait out the storm in a harbor town.
Pretend I'll see you in fall.
Wait out the storm in a harbor town.
Whoa.

Hey Hannah, don't go.
We could have given you such a beautiful home.
I won't call.
Know you're waiting right outside.
Thanks for the ride.

I watched lines of container ships drift in just off of Long Beach.
I thought long about where you would be today.
We'd lose touch after college came and went.
I'd hear you got married to some boy from California;
Have a baby on the way.

Hey Hannah, don't go.
We could have given you such a beautiful home.
I won't call.
Know you're waiting right outside.

I'm letting balloons drift off - tiny gifts to a lonely god.
Darlin' please wake up.
I'm letting balloons drift off - tiny gifts to a lonely god.
If you see her tell her I'm not giving up.
(See her tell her I'm not giving up.)

Hey Hannah, don't go.
We could have given you such a beautiful home.
I won't call.
Know you're waiting right outside.

Hey Hannah, don't go.
We could have given you such a beautiful home.
I won't call.
Know you're waiting right outside.
(Thanks for the ride.)

Hey Hannah, don't go.
We could have given you such a beautiful home.
I won't call.
Know you're waiting right outside.
Thanks for the ride.

My guinea pig just died and Idk I just feel really bad cause he just barely made it to four years old and he was really sick and I couldn't help him. Idk this song is just helping a bit I guess. Sorry for the rant I needed to get this off my chest I guess.

My name is Hannah. Someone texted me these lyrics. I didn't know the song or who it was since I lost numbers. I was sitting outside, and they sent "I know you're waiting right outside" and I thought I was being stalked! Lol glad I found this song!!

    Yann Teyssou

  15. Sam Sears

Can someone explain hannah to me? who is she

    Trent Sullivan

+Sam Sears Hannah is a high school friend who passed and this song is hypothetical of what life could have been like if she hadn't passed.

    LeviPicturesXD

One of the members daughter's who they fostered and she got taken away that's what the song is about

    Trent Sullivan

    +KittyCatLover http://www.spin.com/2015/09/the-wonder-years-thanks-for-the-ride-stream/ nope

    Eric Twing

it's about one of there friends who got in a car crash and went into a coma and died and what it'd be like if she woke up, shed move away and he'd never see her again and he'd be fine with that if she was happy

    Trent Sullivan

@Eric Twing I see what you're doing. I like it.

  16. Kelly Creighton

opening with an explosive and definate riffff-raf pattern. nice to drive to on the beltway on my way to IKEA atm

    Dynamite Shovel

    Riff raff

    Kelly Creighton

    drunk trolling

    Dynamite Shovel

    +Yon Yohnson true

  17. cody russell

so this song is about how soupy wished his friend would've woken up from the coma she was in instead of dying because he imagined her having a wonderful life with a husband and a baby on the way and even though he thought they would lose touch he said that it wouldn't matter because he knew she was happy..... sad shit tbh

    LeviPicturesXD

No one of the members fostered a daughter and she got taken away and her name is Hannah.

    Trent Sullivan

    +KittyCatLover http://www.spin.com/2015/09/the-wonder-years-thanks-for-the-ride-stream/ just saying

    Eric Twing

+KittyCatLover no it's definitely about one of there friends and none of them have fostered anyone I don't think

  18. Joel Fernández Díez

    this is a shit

  19. Alessandro Mainini

Guitar riff reminds of me Careful by Paramore in some strange way, haha.

    Vincent Bastian

+Alessandro Mainini More like "Skyway Avenue" by WTK.

    luciano coronel

    I KNEW I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE!!!

  20. Delinquent Confusion

  21. Brandon Tatum

Def one of my favorite songs, so stoked to see them at Starland in November!

  22. Alistair Colville

The best TWY song written to date.

    talksfor lifetwo

+Jason LovesPWD idk man a song for patsy cline is pretty intence but its weird, out of all the actual instrumentation on the album I dislike the bluest things on earth the most but its my favorite lyricly.

    Doug Zed

+talksfor lifetwo Crazy man, we have opposite opinions- I think patsy cline is the most strange and that bluest things is the best track haha

    talksfor lifetwo

you know to be honest after jamming for a few days the bluest things has really grown on me.

  23. zmanx5

I can't help but think they are referencing The Get Up Kids song "Hannah Hold on".
Soupy has mentioned it in "My Life As Rob Gordon" (Suburbia B Side) about how he can't stand to listen to that song anymore.
If the friend he lost to a coma was named Hannah than it's great homage to her memory. None the less the name fits with the song well.
Soupy's hitting the bigger marks this album. More than the average anxiety filled American teenager growing into adult theme.
Where would of Hannah been if she lived?

    zmanx5

+charlie grager My Life As Rob Gordon became a B side because it didn't fit the theme of Suburbia.
There was an article released where Soupy gave some backstory to the song with the debut of the album.
If you look on Itunes My Life As Rob Gordon is only part of the deluxe album.

    charlie grager

+zmanx5 I don't have the deluxe album and I have it. Are you thinking about I Was Scared, And I'm Sorry off of The Upsides

    charlie grager

+zmanx5 I don't have the deluxe album and I have it. Are you thinking about I Was Scared, And I'm Sorry off of The Upsides

    zmanx5

+charlie grager https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suburbia_I've_Given_You_All_and_Now_I'm_Nothing look at the dropdown menu for the deluxe version and you'll see the song I'm talking about.
    It's posted on Youtube somewhere

  24. Monique T.

Think I just found my fave song from the album

    Victor Hugo

Wait out the storm In a harbor town
Pretend I'll see you in fall

  25. danwinz

I like the song but i'm not feeling the "Thanks for the ride" line. Idk, feels too generic.

    Joe P

    +FTWinnick epic bro!

    zach murphy

+FTWinnick if you use the word "generic" to describe any kind of music, you don't know how to enjoy music.

  26. Dylan Smarr

I really don't think it's possible for them to write a bad song. This album is going to be great.

    cthulhuholmes

+Dylan Smarr Songs were about Kool-Aid man, dude.

    ninjalemurdude

+cthulhuholmes Got problems with Kool-Aid dude? Only thing I wasn't fond of was the keyboard, but I got used to it.

    cthulhuholmes

+ninjalemurdude What about the song with the dude from CDC? That song is bad.

    ninjalemurdude

+cthulhuholmes The ninja song? Nah, that's a good song. The screams were a little off here and there, but that has nothing to do with the song itself, that's just the production. It was pretty cheaply made after all.

    Dylan Smarr

    Suit yourself. I enjoyed it.

  27. Mason Bailey

God dammit is it the 4th yet?

  28. chompette234

I loved how every album by them has really showed them growing up and I loved all their music since I first heard them. Keep up the good work!
