Wonder Years, The - Pyramids Of Salt Lyrics

I saw you hiding in the ivy
I know you're too afraid to call
They're getting ready for the winter here
They've gathered pyramids of salt
You saw them having trouble breathing
I know you think that it's your fault
I saw you hiding in the ivy
Keeping quiet through the fall

There's a bird inside your rib cage
He screams so I never forget
I wanna break open your sternum
I wanna rip him from his nest
And sow you back up like a garden
Growing flowers from your chest
There's a bird inside your rib cage
I keep trying to forget

I drew a line in the sand with these worthless fucking hands
I drew a line in the sand, you washed it away again

I saw you hiding in the ivy
Watched the night start to decay
And you wonder in the morning who's gonna drag
The sun out of the lake
You move gently off the sore spots
I can see that you're in pain
Everything left in the light here long enough
Is someday gonna fade

I drew a line in the sand with these worthless fucking hands
I drew a line in the sand, you washed it away again
I drew a line in the sand with these goddamn worthless hands
I drew a line in the sand, you washed it away again

We're so vacant
These bodies
Collapsing
So gracefully
And I love you
And I'm sorry
And I understand if you blame me
And I'm helpless
And you're drowning
And I'm beating at the water here so desperately

I drew a line in the sand with these worthless fucking hands
I drew a line in the sand, you washed it away again
I drew a line in the sand with these goddamn worthless hands
I drew a line in the sand, you washed it away again
Don't wash me away again

    Wouaw, j'adore ce nouveau son!

  23. S.... ....

The album's out for almost a month, have they released it online somewhere?

  24. S.... V....

I love the wonder years so much

  25. M.... H....

I love the change in the music at 2:04 😍

  26. s.... e....

I'm seeing them again in a few weeks. Every show is amazing, but I'm really excited to hear some of this album live.

  27. B.... W....

    So fucking good

  28. N.... F....

Recien hoy los escuche y esta genial

  29. C.... S....

Is it just me or is 2:02 the best part of the song

    C.... S....

Cole Shea not just you, best part of the entire album. Best part of any song of 2018 so far. The feels never fail to overcome me every time.

    C.... S....

Correction, the bridge to the song is what i am actually talking about😂😂

  30. B.... A....

    great new song guys

  31. L.... L....

3:45 got some gameplay of far cry 5. Nice.

  32. S.... I....

No closer to heaven was a bad record. This is a nice bounce back for them.

  33. R.... C....

Ok, so the album is good, not great. That mix though? Man, what is that? it sounds like an album full of demo tracks. I don't get it? Everything sounds compressed as hell and the guitars overpower nearly everything... I love this band, but this is piss weak.

  34. h.... ....

I love how much TWY matured as band all the way from the rarely-spoken-of Get Stoked On It to Sister Cities. Everything aged really well, yet the sound has changed so much. I get worried when a band I love who is driven by emotion 'grows up' but I think The Wonder Years are handling it perfectly.

  35. R.... ....

Unpopular opinion, but this is one of the worst Wonder Years songs I’ve ever heard.

  36. S.... B....

    Seth Rollins

  37. D.... M....

Everytime I listen I get more and more excited for this album

  38. S.... C....

    What a lovely song

  39. J.... G....

Eh, can't fault them for evolving as a band. Even so, I miss their old sound. TGG and back.

  41. M.... R....

    and I'm helpless
    and you're drowning
and I'm beating at the water her, so desperately
    so desperately

    by far the best lines

  42. R.... a....

    Keeping quiet through the fall...

  43. M.... ....

I'm so glad I pre-ordered this album. This song is just pure poetry

  44. C.... ....

Wasn't sold on Sister Cities... but this? This has grown on me.

  45. e.... o....

the wonder years could do no wrong

  46. S.... ....

    ❤❤❤

  47. m.... ....

So stoked to meet them again in may. I'll be getting my copy of Sister Cities and my limited edition Burst and Decay EP signed this go around.

  48. T.... R....

Emotional but cryptic lyrics, atmospheric instrumental with great dynamics, beautiful sense of space with great dynamics and that almost uplifting shift on the bridge. This is what I felt like listening to, solid job lads.

  49. A.... W....

When the second verse hit I started bawling. I currently have a metal bar in my chest to try to fix my Pectus Excavatum. They cut my ribs in half and placed the bar in so hopefully my ribs will heal into a position as normal as everyone else and won't be crushing my lungs anymore or pushing my heart too far to the left. Until they remove the bar I'm in pain most days. Of course its a lot better than the first couple months with it but there are still days I don't wanna leave my bed. Sometimes I try to forget its there and sometimes it works. The person who loves me the most is happy that this bar will maybe help me but he's also mad that he can't help me and sometimes can't even hold me tight and sometimes I just need a good hug. Idk why but the second verse just kinda hits me hard even though it was probably written about something completely different. It reminds me of conversations I've had with my lover.

  50. S.... E....

i picked a great band to be my favorite band. 7 years of my life and i’ve yet to be disappointed. the amount of growth these dudes have made amazes me every time a song comes on. from singing about steve erwin and being a land pirate to this. wow. thank you guys!

  51. M.... 6....

    That bridge is incredible

  52. m.... ....

    2:03 so well done

  53. A.... H....

Ok, what makes me mad is that this band is so good but they’re not near known enough.

  54. L.... ....

this is the first song i have heard by this band and i’m actually liking this, so song suggestions by this band please!?

    L.... ....

If you like this sound, the other song released off of this album so far Sister Cities is solid. But their last album had a few you might like. Off of No Closer to Heaven I recommend Cigarettes and Saints as well as Stained Glass Ceilings. Cardinals is also solid.

Their older stuff has a bit of a different sound but if you like pop-punk in general you should like it. I love Came Out Swinging, Coffee Eyes, Local Man Ruins Everything, Solo and Chewy Holdin it Dow, I Wanted So Badly to be Brave, You're not Salinger. Get Over it, Me vs. the Highway, I Just Want to Sell Out My Funeral, I Was Scared and I'm Sorry, and Washington Square Park a lot too. Also Melrose Diner is solid old pop-punky feeling and fun.

I know that's a lot already so I'll leave it at that. You can pretty much pick any title there that sounds interesting to you and slowly branch out. The thing about this band is that I have never heard a song by them that I don't like, they're consistently solid across the board. They just have an evolving sound and writing style so things will be a little different but so good anyway.

    L.... ....

Everything off of no closer to heaven

  55. R.... ....

This is beauty, through and through. I've always been iffy on The Wonder Years outside of Cigarettes And Saints; nothing really sold me and got me attached to the band but holy fucking shit this song has turned that around for me.

  56. Q.... C....

Reminds me of Brand New’s Sowing Season which is a wonderful thing

  57. B.... S....

    fucking hell.
can't even put it into words.

  58. E.... M....

This and We Look Like Lightning are two of the best songs you've ever made. This album might go on to be better than No Closer To Heaven, which I didn't even think was possible. Holy fuck.

  59. a.... m....

Just drunkenly bought the pre-order album with the crewneck impulsively that is like 60 bucks - thank god for tax returns. cant wait for that pup to come in. killer chorus.

  60. S.... T....

This shit sounds so whiny and dramatic.

  61. M.... R....

This song came in the perfect moment. Like if you knew all was gonna happen to me these days. Thanks for for being our moral support and bringing us real strength. I'm so stoked with the new album

  62. E.... P....

Soupy, pls. My heart can't take this.

  63. A.... R....

IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MY WHOLE TINY LIFE

  64. K.... G....

Not bad but i miss the "upsides" era

  65. N.... ....

vocals remind me of Ben Gibbard.

  66. S.... S....

this is so bad. REVIVE GET STOKED ON IT

  67. M.... W....

The weirdest thing about the wonder years for me is comparing where I was in life to no because I got into them during my formative years- when I first listened to the Upsides I wanted to kill myself and thought life would never get better but now I’m listening to this while nursing my newborn son and watching my husband play with our dog. Life is weird and it strangely does get better regardless of what I thought then.

    M.... W....

That is so beautiful. I'm glad you're doing well.

    M.... W....

This comment hit hard and im so glad to hear you are doing better!

    M.... W....

Your story hit me hard and I'm really happy that you held on and because you did you created a beautiful present for yourself. Not to mention you have a beautiful baby boy. :) Sending virtual love.

  68. M.... T....

    nice :)

  69. T.... S....

I'll be honest, I'm not really feeling this new album. I want to like it, I really do. It just doesn't have that same feeling that the other albums give me.

    T.... S....

    The Soda Man
It’s definitely different. I kinda understand how some might not like the new style though, definitely an interesting direction they took musically. I personally like their new style in this album as well as their old style in past ones, but I can still see how some might not like it as much.

  70. S.... B....

This had to be the next step in the history of TWY and I'm as excited as I could be. This song is completely incredible.

  71. B.... ....

    ♥ dan's voice

  72. J.... M....

Sell outs telling sad stories with deep meanings that began a long time ago.

  73. B.... E....

    extremely average song.

  74. p.... ....

The major change for a second is so good the whole thing is great I never considered this band as a pop punk band because it’s much more than power chords and leaving a town with a Pizza but these last few albums have cemented that even more what a great band

  75. C.... ....

When I realised this song had the exact same structure as We Look Like Lightning it lost some of the spark

  76. b.... f....

THIS is so fucking good. First listen I was like ok...
Listened to it again on a drive home and my god....

  77. R.... A....

This is so grown up, and I’m living for it. Keep it up, TWY. 💕

  78. M.... ....

    This is so aesthetically pleasing

  79. N.... W....

    Great evolution.
This song is making me obnoxiously emotional though.

  80. C.... S....

    It’s finally Spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  81. J.... G....

    sounds like American Football

  82. s.... r....

just me or are the vocals not very clear/kinda quiet?

    s.... r....

steven regnault I agree they could of mixed the few new tracks a little bit better.

  83. S.... D....

I'm excited for this album and to see them again which I didn't think was possible. This is incredible.

  84. E.... L....

    Mmmm naw, son.

  85. T.... G....

I played this to my two year old daughter the other night. I tactically coughed through the swear words. Not only did she dance around the room but she turned it up and said “AGAIN” when it’d finished. Cheers lads for that special 5 minutes 👍

  86. C.... H....

    More like "Pyramid of Nut"

  87. M.... M....

I'm not sure if I like this more than "Cigarettes and Saints", but this is really, really good. I'd say this reminds me a lot of Alter Bridge's "Calm the Fire" in that both bands used a calmer opening and then went with an explosive chorus and somewhat explosive verses. Oh, and both songs get better the more one listens to them.

  88. H.... ....

Literally on repeat, this tugs at my heartstrings

  89. a.... w....

I love the lyrics, like damn. The sound I'm sure will grow on me (sister cities was really good) I'm so stoked to see you all in May (the day after my birthday)

  90. T.... T....

    i love it

  91. w.... ....

i can't believe i live in the same planet and in the same time as this guys

  92. N.... W....

Best so far for the album

  93. D.... T....

Gotta say, these guys have come a long way since
"Wouldn't it be cool if we were astronauts?"
I'll admit, the first single left me a little underwhelmed, but this is something else. It's loud yet melodic, familiar yet ominous, and has Dan's A+ lyrical imagery as always. I'm so pumped for the rest of the album, and I absolutely cannot wait to hear this banger live.

  94. m.... ....

They took such a theatrical approach on this track and I love it. The emotion in this song was portrayed in such a “show don’t tell” fashion which was super effected. I couldn’t be more exited for this album!

  95. A.... ....

    Oh my god

  96. M.... H....

    This is amazing

  97. M.... B....

How do they manage to keep getting better?

  98. A.... S....

ahhhh this so different for them but like its good
