Wonder, Stevie - Put On A Happy Face Lyrics

Gray skies are gonna clear up
Put on a happy face
Brush off the clouds and cheer up
Put on a happy face

Take off the gloomy mask of tragedy
It's not your style
You'll look so good that you'll be glad
Ya' decide to smile!

Pick out a pleasant outlook
Stick out that noble chin
Wipe off that "full of doubt" look
Slap on a happy grin!

And spread sunshine all over the place,
Just put on a happy face!
Put on a happy face
Put on a happy face

And if you're feeling cross and bitterish
Don't sit and whine
Think of banana split and licorice
And you'll feel fine

I knew a girl so glooming
She'd never laugh or sing
She wouldn't listen to me
Now she's a mean old thing

So spread sunshine all over the place
Just put on a happy face
So, put on a happy face

The "Boy Wonder" was only a tender 13yrs old when this project was released, very poor artist direction by the heads at Motown at the time to take this direction... he was so talented that  they didn't know what to do with this gold mine they found only two and a half years earlier... fortunately his genius couldn't be contained and they let him do his own thing,,, the rest as we all know is History...

You are dead wrong my friend. Many great artists in those days (Aretha Franklin is one example) cut their recording teeth performing standards and the like, and Little Stevie was no exception. To suggest that this album was in any way indicative of the course his career was intended to take is ridiculous in the extreme. Apparently you think a 12 year old should have been allowed to cut a full album with all of his own songs on it without having any previous album recording experience. I know things are different today, but in those days babies (even those as talented as Stevie) were expected to crawl and walk before they were permitted to run.

    This is outstanding, very enjoyable.

I've noticed, though, that many artists who record this song mess up one of the lyrics. Most of them say "be glad you"... and Stevie even inserts and extra word, "be glad that you"... It should be "gladja dee..." to rhyme with tragedy.

I must to say that it is quite amazing that his last name is wonder, In my opinion that exactly what he is!
