Wonder, Stevie - I'd Be A Fool Right Now Lyrics

They say your love will surely fade girl
When things go wrong and trouble calls
But they don't know that your sweet sunshine babe
Will never fade when darkness falls
They say that when the chips are down girl
Your love won't stay so long my friend
But they don't know that your sweet lovin' babe
Has been around through thick and thin

And I'd be a fool right now
If I should hurt you girl
And I'd be a fool right now
If I should leave you girl
And I'd be a fool right now
If I wouldn't love you girl
And I'd be a fool right now
On the outside looking inside

They say your love is surely goin'
Just like a snowman in the sun
But they don't know that your sweet lovin' babe
Was here when all my friends were gone

And I'd be a fool right now
If I should hurt you girl
Oh, such a fool right now
If I should leave you girl
Baby, baby, a fool right now
If I wouldn't love you girl
And I'd be a fool right now
On the outside lookin' inside

All my dreams would fall and crumble into dirt
If I walk away from you I'd be the one to hurt
One day my dreams were surely dying, dying, dying baby
Just like a flower without rain
They just don't know that your sweet sunshine babe
Made my life blossom again
And so the story goes around baby yeah y-yeah
That this is just a passing thing
But I believe in your sweet lovin', lovin'... babe
With every summer fallin' rain

And I'd be a fool right now
If I should hurt you girl
Oh, such a fool right now
If I should leave you girl
I'd be a fool right now
If I wouldn't love you girl
And I'd be a fool right now
Oh, hey!

And I'd be a fool right now
If I should hurt you girl
Oh, such a fool right now
If I should leave you girl
Baby, baby, a fool right now...

  5. r.... ....

Magical ... My heart loves this masterpiece.

  6. P.... t....

The way his vocals push the limits on this and creates the grainy sound is what it’s all about. The red line was not ready for Stevie yet. It couldn’t keep up. It not comparable to anything else.

  7. M.... J....

As impossible a thing it is to have a favorite Stevie Wonder song, this is my favorite song from a Pre-WHERE I'M COMING FROM album.

  8. R.... V....

The flip side to Yesterme, Yesteryou, Yesterday, This song is much better than you met your match( a song I never cared for) plus the string arrangement on this track is gorgeous!

I've played this song 34 times in a row! This is a hit period! I go to tears every time i hear it! Stevie Wonder is a  blessed man! Satan sent the blindness but God gave him this extra ordinary talent! The best part of this is that Stevie is still w/ us

Well you connoisseur's of old school music just make me so happy when you make the hard to find music easy. Thank you johnniewalker23 and you too Honey Kone. I'd forgotten it was on the other side of Yester Me Yester Day.

Zooey Deschanel is such classy gal. <3

  31. T.... W....

    zoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooey

  32. m.... ....

Stevie was like The Beatles: so much great material, he had to hold back many great songs from becoming singles and simply release them on albums. This was passed over for single release in favour of Shoo-Be-Doo-Be-Doo-Da-Day, You Met Your Match and For Once In My Life, yet it is easily on a par with those great songs. Personally, I enjoy it even more. Perhaps his best up-tempo song from the 60s.

  33. A.... R....

I remember listening to this while preparing for O´level exams in England, 1972. Was totally in love with a girl and this song along with "You´ve been cheating" by The Impressions still touch the nerves today. This is one of the best songs Stevie ever recorded in my opinion

  34. j.... j....

    I love this song !

  35. T.... ....

Ths should have been a single.
    It was a later B-side.

  36. g.... j....

    verry gooood...--..-.

  37. b.... ....

@ElectrickFingers Yeah I had that about-buried somewhere I believe. Totally amazing tracks on it!!

  38. s.... ....

This song has extremely complex production for a song made in the late 60's. It reminds me more of the kind of Acid and Nu Jazz we hear from the mid to late 90's.

  39. D.... F....

The best thing is that this song is still a strong groove today! Stevie transcends Race, genre and time as an artist. Simply the best!

  40. t.... ....

this is such a banger, I could/do bump this every day

  41. e.... ....

The B-side to Yester-Me Yester-you Yesterday. My aunt had this on 45. I FLIPPED IT OVER and I was in love with this one.

  42. j.... ....

lets be honest, any track with jamerson and stevie on it isnt going to be a bad one is it! pure quality

  43. C.... ....

@IDLERACER E-mail me.I majored in theory in college.I can help.

  44. T.... ....

This song had the power to be an "A" side. Was definitely hit material.

The audio was on the weak side, but it had charisma.

    A real super soul ballad.

A real treat for the ears, and a sample what the Mottown artist could really do.

  46. g.... ....

I was in High School when this came out. I believe it was the 'b' side of 'my cherie amour'- correct me someone who has the original 45.
I played this song soooooooooo much it had grooves :)

    g.... ....

gayle2020 - It was the flip side to Yesterme Yesteryou Yesterday from 1969!

  47. s.... ....

I remember the 1977 remastered (or remixed) version of this song, but it was featured in Stevie's greatest hits album "Looking Back"

  48. m.... ....

    Happy 60th Birthday, Stevie!

  49. H.... K....

One of my all-time favorite Stevie Wonder songs! It was the B-side of Yester Me, Yester You, Yester Day.... but, I played this song just as much as the hit song! I really believe this song had enough merit of its own to be a hit.

  50. b.... ....

    Jam Jamerson Jam!

  51. j.... ....

@IDLERACER I was thinking the same thing!
    Awesome chord changes! Very dramatic.

  52. D.... M....

@Bentom86, who knows? at last the Funk Brothers have gotten their due, so maybe with you tube and other avenues on the web, these producers, writers and engineers will finally get the recognition they deserve...

  53. B.... ....

@tomovox AMEN to all of this!! The movie "Standing In The Shadows of Motown" was an amazing and way overdue tribute to the Funk Brothers, but there really needs to be another film to showcase the producers, writers, & engineers who were also the backbone of "The Motown Sound".

  54. N.... A....

I have loved this song for years! Thanks!!!

  55. b.... ....

this is a really pretty song by stevie wonder.
i have it on a 45. it's on the other side of
    yester me, yester you, yesterday.

  56. T.... M....

Wow!! Stevie has so many gems on his albums that are overlooked.

"I'd Be A Fool Right Now If I Should Hurt You Girl"

  57. m.... ....

    Stevie Wonder: The Movie!

  58. D.... M....

Isn't this ubelieveable? Henry Cosby. An amazing Motown producer who's name isn't as well known as it should be. The man crafted some seriously mind-blowing tracks with Stevie. Sylvia Moy- another Motown writer/producer who should have her name etched in stone for the ages co-wrote this and many other staggeringly great songs for the Motown artists. As with many corporations, I don't believe Motown really appreciated what brilliant material was coming out of the "Snakepit."

  59. n.... j....

This IS THE song!! fantastic.thanks.Makes you wanna relive those motown nights all over again!

  60. N.... J....

i love this song!! my favorate!! '
    Thank you for posting!!

  61. B.... P....

great song and an overall great album

  62. I.... ....

This is possibly the most musically sophisticated song he ever wrote. It took me weeks to figure out all these unusual chord changes, and I'm still not sure that I have it exactly right!

  63. j.... ....

I'm partial to the first 4 tracks myself. Just about every song is really really good though. This is one of my top 3 albums if not my favorite from Stevie.
