Wonder, Stevie - At Last Lyrics

At last
My love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song

At last
The sky above is blue
My heart was wrapped in clover
The night I looked at you

I found a dream, that I could speak to
A dream that I, can call my own
I found a thrill, to press my cheek to
A thrill that I, have never ever known

You, you smiled
And then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine at last

I found a dream, I found a dream
That I could speak to, baby
A dream that I, can definitely call my own
I found a thrill, I found a thrill
To press my cheek to, to press my cheek to
A thrill that I, have never ever known

You smiled, you smiled, baby
And then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
Yeah, yeah, yeah, for you are mine
At last
You are mine at last
At last
You're mine, baby

What a great tune! I'm discovering more killer Jamerson basslines all the time.

If you're looking for more Jamerson basslines check out Stevie's For Once In My Life album, he did that whole album. Here's a playlist to the album. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLC664E0649EF1DAE3

    Stevie Wonder King!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Larry Graham who himself brought a new style of thumping bass playing to funk-has mentioned J J as an early influence. J J like many other soul, RnB androck n roller bass players in particualr Billy Haley & The Comets bassist picked up chops from the late Cuban bass player-co-creator of the mambo, Israel Lopez the immortal Cachao

Agree with you about For Once in my Life... I also like My Cherie Amour, I was made to love here and Its a Shame by the Detroit Spinners.... you have great taste my friend!

His bass lines in 'For Once in My Life' and 'What's Going On' by Marvin Gaye are two of my favorites. JJ's melodic approach to playing was a great complement to the Motown sound, and bass playing in general.

  15. c.... ....

Couldn't agree more -there are great jazz bassists and funk bassists such as Nils Pedersen and Stanley Clarke - and guys such as Robbie Shakespeare who put the bass upfront in Reggae music but JJ turned the role of the bass in popular music on it's head by playing on the beat, against the beat, in a contrapuntal style and with flourishes and grace notes which were unheard of at the time - a legend!

James Jamerson was one of the greatest electric bassists to ever live, hands down.

Stevie took this song out of Etta's blues and into the sunshine where it belongs. Exactly where the writers intended it to be. A notch up from Glenn Miller in the 1942 original.

Originally I thought Nat King Cole's cover (recorded 1956) 5 yrs before Etta's was the best. Followed by the First Lady of Song Ella Fitzgerald's, then Etta. But I gotta put Stevie up there now, that I've heard it! Thanks for uploading this! :D

  18. c.... ....

Bassist is James Jamerson who played bass in a the Motown House band... a genius who revolutionsed the art of playing bass and in many ways invited a lot of the funk and disco bass which followed... sadly he died a poor man which is IMHO a tragedy. Still this is a terrific performance from both JJ and Stevie...

I think I now love this version better than Etta James. He gives it some more flavor. I didn't know that he also perform this song.
