Wishbone Ash - Mother Of Pearl Lyrics

Underworld, the queen of pearls
Catches the light that's in your eyes.
She has desires, and has to get higher,
Trying to love the whole world.

Mother of pearl
She's a charity girl,
Giving herself away
To some body and soul.

Paradise if you pay the price
Inlaid with love she satisfies.
She has to pray alone everyday,
Lying in wait for the whole wide world.

Mother of pearl
She's a charity girl,
Giving herself away
To some body and soul.

Black see-through
Dressed to kill and cast her spell,
Sequins of fire for her love's desire,
She's drifting away from her open shell.

Mother of pearl
She's a charity girl,
Giving herself away
To some body and soul.

Wishbone Ash Mother Of Pearl Comments
  1. M.... M....

One of their finest albums. This was recorded live in the studio.

  2. O.... P....

best 'wishbone' album ever........there, I've said it and I bought most of them over the years

    O.... P....

    starting to agree with ya

  3. J.... B....

First heard this album in the mid 80s - an older friend said "You're gonna love this..." & dropped the needle on side 1, track 1. From the moment that opening riff played, then the drums kicked in, it's been in my top 10 of best rock albums...

  4. H.... M....

Another gem by Wishbone Ash that found it's way to the cutout bin a gem it is !!!

  5. H.... F....

    Ich mag es!

  6. M.... M....

    Classic Ash.

  7. A.... E....

Now that is what you call a riff.

  8. C.... S....

The epitome of foggy, bloated, lethargic mid 70's rock. No wonder punk had to smash it all and rebuild.

    C.... S....

Hardly lethargic. Superbly synchronised dual guitars, bass, drums and vocals actually.

  9. T.... R....

Best show ever blown away in 1976!

  10. P.... O....

This was so ahead of its time .1976? Unreal!

    P.... O....

    ?!?
What do you think music was like in 1976?

    P.... O....

PeterSpaeter96 I know what it was like. I was there!

  11. M.... B....

Never heard WA rock so hard.

  21. B.... ....

This album was totally overlooked by the mainstream , excellent album , really grows on you.

    B.... ....

    no it doesn't

  22. R.... T....

Saw these guys at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby PA, USA, back in '74. Loudest fucking concert I've ever been to. They had a backline of Orange amps. We had 8th row seats, so close we could smell them. I think I still have hearing damage. Great show!

  23. M.... A....

    Stunner

  24. K.... A....

    Brings back memories from school...

  25. B.... V....

Nothing to do with the Roxy Music song....

    B.... V....

Benoit Vanhees -- actually a good album to listen to along side Roxy Music

  26. P.... v....

    very good album!

    P.... v....

yes, and what a group. I´ve see this group in the 70´s three times in germany, and every time it was a very good concert.

  27. C.... L....

my dad had this album. great song and band

    C.... L....

+Cindy Liszka Your dad and I probably went to different schools together.

    C.... L....

I will have to ask my mom. She might know who you are.

  28. T.... ....

unbelievable this is 40 yrs ago time moves too fast

  29. G.... D....

Although the double lead guitar work is amazing - Wishbone Ash was one of the first bands to incorporate the concept - the bass guitar work on this song is truly incredible. The on the beat, behind the beat syncopation defies all logic. NO ONE plays like that anymore. Well, we still do, but we're not getting younger! I wish the younger generation could appreciate this.

    G.... D....

Fully agreed. Martin Turner is one of the best bassist around not to mention its not easy to sing while playing the bass...

    G.... D....

People still play like that maybe not so much in modern pop rock but Its still a huge part of funk and soul bass playing.

  30. d.... ....

Ok. So this is not a cover of the Roxy Music tune. Good anyways.

  31. G.... S....

Just ahead of Be Bop Deluxe/ Modern Music, 10cc/10 out of 10, Neil Merryweather/Space Rangers, Pete Sinfield/Still, Al Stewart/ Last Days of the Century and the list goes on and on

    G.... S....

+Geoffrey Snell Got this album framed and hanging on the wall ;)
For me up there with BBD 'Live in the Air age" and GFR Caught in the Act!

    G.... S....

+Gary Fleming I hear what ur saying. Been listening to Mark, Don and Mel and Survival yesterday. First time for years. Still great to hear

  32. G.... S....

best album in the world EVER

    G.... S....

    !! Hell, yeah.

    G.... S....

Good to see someone out there agrees with me. I have about 1300 lp's and New England is top of the list and always will be. Got all the Ash up to Illuminations except Transvisionary Vamp which I sent back to the fan club in London who sent it back to me which I sent back with a note of my disappointment but still my number one favourite band.

    G.... S....

only wishbone ash album i know. Discovered it at age 17, still the BEST 40 years later

  33. f.... s....

i buy this album in 2nd hand in 1985, the price 1£ (in portugal) but for me the really value it's 1.000£. WHAT A GREAT ALBUM, AND THE GUITARS WOW

  34. E.... W....

anybody understand the signifcance of this album cover?
    careful with those knives boys-lol.
just wondering.....who really cares right?-i love these guys-

    E.... W....

It doesn't do justice to the fabulous music. Its disturbing.

    E.... W....

@Ed: Isn't it obvious? They're preparing for staking vampires at night.

    E.... W....

It was the 70s... it was Hipgnosis... it doesn't have to make sense... just like the cover for 'Wish You Were Here', by the same guys

  35. t.... ....

Thank you for posting this song.

  36. t.... ....

Lucky you I could never find this album, nor the cd. Still love the album, though.

  37. R.... R....

I remember this album when I was stationed at Travis AFB during the heydays of running the flight line. Thanks for the memories.

  38. D.... D....

great album, but the original 76 lp/cass issue is better than the cd issue,in the fact the cd is slightly speeded up.

  39. D.... F....

Great Band and great album. Can you please post 'when you know love' from this album
