Winwood, Steve - Time Is Running Out Lyrics
Every day there's something new that's going around
Crazy people getting all dressed up to paint the town
Business men they shake their heads and then they frown
Everybody tries so hard to put them down
And if you don't make an effort, then you got no way to know
Time is running out
Woman, can you hear me clear?
I hope that you can
Before you go to sleep at night
Take care of your man
And if you want a love that will always be around forever
Then you finally get it, ah, but you ain't gonna have it together
Time is running out, running out
Time is running out, running out
Johnny drives a Thunderbird, he's in a big rage
Always being criticized for being his age
In his nose a safety pin and life's a razor blade
He's so sick of everything that's been made
It seems to me that maybe he's got bad frustration
And all we can do is try and give the right information
Oh, 'cause time is running out
Population on the move
So don't you delay
Get yourself right in the groove
'N' hear what I say
It's no good being lazy
You've got to get up on your feet and shout
'Cause it'll make you crazy
When you realize you've been left out
Time is running out, running out
Time is running out, running out
Time is running out, running out
In the future there's no room
People standing on your toes
Mother nature's on the run
Everybody's got a gun
Soldiers walking in the street
Giving off a lot of heat
There just ain't enough to eat
If you're poor, you've got no meat
Advertising in the sky
They like to stick it in your eye
So mad it will make you cry
All the things that you don't need
Trouble in the family (Said, separation and the [sea?])
There is no more unity (Remind me what it used to be)
Complications everywhere (It seems to me it has to be)
[?] people stare (You know it's true and)
Time is running out, running out
Time is running out, running out
Television in my home (People watching every day)
Someone's talking on the phone (I can't hear a word I say)
There's no time to be alone (There's no time to get away)
Wonder why your mind is blown (Nervous breakdown every day)
Take me where the air is clean
To the country, fresh and green
I just cannot stand this pace
Sorry, but there's no such place
Time is running out, running out
[Repeat and fade]

Sorry, theres no such Place....was called Great Brit. Great track that needs only a little work on the VOCAL levels and a bit of goo's magic
His music is all good ❤️🌹🌹🌹
This is sooooo good
sorry, but there's no such place...........
Hits were for the commercial weenies. Winwood, Traffic, made their bones in the sub culture. To have a "hit" was an insult. The Beatles and the Stones took several "hits" (at the time) for having "hits". Remember, it was the golden age of FM. FM had no Top 40. Idiots like Casey Kassum who leached on talent were on the AM radio.
Ask yourself this, if this song wasn't "well received" how do people know about it now? After all, this is the 21st Century, and here we are. I met the guy in Tuscaloosa Alabama on the When The Eagle Flies tour, at the Union 76 truck stop; him Rebop, Chris...their girls. They had a Rolls and a Caddy Limo. In Florence, Alabama we turned right, they turned left. I watched them in my rearview drive off headed for Memphis on a purely deserted street.
"Sorry, but there's no such place." Keep the faith guys.
Things are not what they seem.
Goin to see Steely Dan w Winwood in 2 days.👍😎
Nothing like an old friend....

Songwriters: Jim Capaldi / Steve Winwood
Fantástico
Steve Winwood has generated as much quality music as anyone in the past 50 years. I love this song. Time is Running Out deviates from many of his more common musical patterns. I bought this album when it came out & I think it was his first solo cut... Heavy in social commentary criticizing corporate excess, police and military violence and government encroachment on individual rights, the baseline supports a Hammond organ moves the song forward and carries it to a crescendo, which **Poof** throws you into a Utopia that does not exist and leaves the individual to deal with personal alienation from a world falling apart at the seams. Steve Windwood ---> Badass M'F'er!!!
Totally agree. The lyrics or words are so pertanant today ,its not funny, Capaldi penned them I'm sure.Alienation is become our nation it seems.
yes was his first solo album
I too but a traffic... Funk you babe. Just a bad joke. Sorry, very bad. Listen to Rod Stewart, please... I know I'm loosing you. Please
Word Michael
@DYNODRUM Capaldi's lyrics have really remained relevant, maybe more so even.
this is a funky jamming grooviest awesomely electronic soulful progressive expressive rock tune. don't sound like Steve Winwood. sounds more like Donald Byrd.
Yes and closer now than when we first heard this song...
Underrated Steve Winwood but has a nice groove. I dig the synthesizers.
This is a more funkier arrangement that the 45rpm I just bought. I bought it based on this, but dang...this version is much more funkier.
Andy Newmark!!!
Willie Weeks!!!
I've seen almost every rock band since i saw Alice Cooper in Berlin in 72. LIving 2 blocks away from the Aragon ballroom in Chicago, never mind. the U ptown and Riveria theaters were just around the corner.I had the opportunity to see practicly every person and band in thier erly days.
Good memories...cruising in my 74 Monte Carlo...8 track cranked up...joint burnin....A/C blasting. Funny thing is this song is as relevant today as it was in 77.
even more so i would think.
So I listened to this S. Winwood classic today on Vinyl, its been a awhile since I heard it (forget FM radio). I was drumming and wanted to check out the drums on this great tune. When I put it in YouTube, Muse's song of the same name came up 1st, the drums on their song is frickin off the charts. Two great songs with the same name, thats never happened before, right? LOL
Reminds me of American Bandstand which isn't necessarily a bad thing. "I can dance to it I'll give it a 94."
Ralph Emerson “it’s got a good beat”....ahhh memories.
would you please get rid of the Hillary Clinton pop-up!Stevie Winwood is so far from her and her campaign- Remember the lyric from Low Spark of the high heel boys-"The man in the suit has just bought a new car from the profit he's made from your dreams"
+hanpfaall Fixed it
Low Spark was one of the coolest albums of the 70s!
He was writing about the manager of Mott the Hoople
i have this album on vinyl, what a great song,i listen to it alot.
popular artist of the late 70's and 80's his music still sound very good to my ears...
60s, 70s, 80s, 90s etc. He is one of the best all around musicians of a generation. He does it all and does it well (sing, write, play guitar, piano/keys). Probably does play drums too I just am not aware of tracks he does drums on.
Great song, love this guy
I wish time would run out on this bloody toothache
Is that 2.30 (tooth hurty) The dentist said my teeth are now all right but my gums have to come out.
+Christobel Carloff - lol at least that'll give him a chance to brace your eyeballs level.
Still got this flippin toothache
+Christobel Carloff - yeh its got a kind of Disco vibe ... mind you I'm no dentist.
a few shots of GOOD tequila should do the trick!
Time may be running out, but it's timeless!
16 at college when this came out got me through many hours revision great stuff still have the album.
great song!
Was a big hit !!! you simply had to be young at the time Stephen :)
I agree. I wasn't even born at the time! But my dad who's gotall his albums tells me it was a bit overlooked compared to the successful ones of the eighties( e.g-Back to the high life again - did I get the title right?), still to me he's a genius whose music never gets outdated.
I remember this being a big hit even on 102.7 WNEW. NYC.
Why was this not a hit?
Thanks Steve.
@silvernail6 No buddy you're stuck.....and the lyrics he's singing is your near term REALITY
Balearic classic
This is a great song. Great groove. Great bass. Thanks for recording this one Steve. Lots of nice electric piano echo effects too. Always loved this one!!
GOOD SHIT HERE !!!!!
1977!!!!!! What's that I can go back?
Good one
Yes... 1977, next was Arc of a Diver (1980)
