Winwood, Steve - Crossing The Line Lyrics

When you're caught, the other side
Take a look and maybe start
To take up your life again
Crossing the line
Through the gate, what words to say
Demon takes your breath away
Hear your heart, don't be afraid
Passing through time
Spinning around the axis of a dream
Possibilities aren't always what they seem
Reject them and all your choices will be free

Crossing the line
Turn upon the winding stair
Past the door that isn't there
You have come you know not where
Passing through time
Walk along the narrow road
Where the ghost gives up his mind
You can catch the thread of time
Crossing the line
Spinning around the axis of a dream
Possibilities aren't always what they seem
Reject them and all your choices will be free
Crossing the line

First heard the solo in the 70's and thought it was great, but Steve Winwood's singing is terrible, he really struggles. Still like the solo, really easy to play compared to when I played it in the 70's. Standards are so much higher these days.

    T.... ....

Don't know how you can come to the opinion that Winwood is struggling vocally after listening to this. This is a brilliant track! Guess you cant please everyone.
    Cheers

    T.... ....

guy augello Steve struggling is heavenly I would shudder to think of what people the same sad people thought of him when he was on! Sorry to say Steve don't struggle never did never will

    T.... ....

They need to reform. Most of the players are still with us and it would be incendiary

  10. P.... K....

the 1970s produced some sublime music - seeded from the break out 1960s decades

great albums and talent all over the world

where is it today? very sparse indeed

  11. T.... K....

How could I have missed this?!? OMG, this is blowing me away. Guess I was too young to have the depth of awareness to have found this... But damn, son, this absolutely soars. It's physically/emotionally/spiritually so soulful and so spacey, it gives me chills. TY for putting this up :)

    T.... K....

+Tessa Ko go live from paris is one of the best live album's ever!

  12. C.... C....

Fusion didn't last long but this was a good one. Have I the heart of a lion? You just make up your mind and GO.

  13. L.... R....

Incredible, all of you guys...this is indeed one of a kind..i wish i could find this on vinyl again!

    L.... R....

    I have it on vinyl.

  14. K.... D....

Epic!  Pink Floydish dare I say. Pat's solo gives me goose bumps to this day. Just a magic moment all around.

  15. p.... l....

Anybody there at the Roundhouse one of those nights?

  16. P.... T....

Actually that's me , Pat Thrall, taking the solo on this amazing song.  It was one of the best nights of my life playing with this incredible group. I can't tell you how emotional we all were at the end of the song.  It brought Winwood to tears.  Bad ass Al Dimeola played all the other solos. I also played the solo on the studio version.

    P.... T....

Thank you so much. I and my guitarist wore out a vinyl copy of live from Paris listening to this track over and over,

    P.... T....

Pat Thrall, my friend, your playing on this track is for the ages. Good God, what emotion and tension and beauty wrapped up in that solo. I want to play like that when I grow up. Cheers, mate.

    P.... T....

Mad props Pat. I bought the studio album off the press back then and you and Steve blew me away.

    P.... T....

Good God man.....You channeled the gods. Thank you! I can't stop listening.

    P.... T....

Awesome....I can think of only a few solos that come close to yours...beautifully played. SO MUCH FEEL!

  17. M.... ....

Je possède le double blanc du concert à Paris ;) ... et dedans cette version est absolument monstrueuse ... l'un de mes meilleurs LP Live !

  18. B.... ....

    excellent................... supers souvenirs!!

  19. m.... ....

Well maybe Pat Thrall on this solo, but the original album does not mention him. Either way, this song and album took me, (all of us), on an incredible journey through space. (definitely DiMeola on "Man of Leo")

    m.... ....

Pat said it was he on both studio and live

    m.... ....

not true. Pat is well mentionned on the 2 tracks he played. On the inside ooklet , with pics of Stomu, Steve, Michael, Klaus,Rosko and Al. PAT is not on the Pics.well, still, this is one of the most emotional Solo, and one of the best for many. The BEST for me for sure. Thanks PAT !!!

    m.... ....

    Stomu Yamashta  GO.

  20. s.... g....

first that i heard this version loved the one from "Go"!

  21. P.... K....

    ....Jazz fused with what?

I thought that Bitches Brew by that amazing Mile Davis group was a fairly seminal jazz fusion release a few years earlier

  22. s.... s....

Killer solo by Pat Thrall, wow!

  23. s.... ....

    Fantastic. I loved it.

  24. L.... P....

This song is LEGENDARY! The group is called GO!~ a side project that was concieved by STOMU YAMASHTA and featured AL DIMEOLA, MICHAEL SHRIEVE And STEVE WINWOOD. many people have called this collection of songs - Go ; Live in Paris - The HOLY GRAIL of jazz fusion

    L.... P....

Levon Peter Muhammad Salah Setyowan Poe don't forget Pat Thrall playing the God given solo of his life. Brilliant and passionate.

  25. v.... ....

  26. B.... D....

Ardent fan of Pat Thrall & Al dimeola, these are the guys that drove me into Jazz fusion not forgetting Stomu Yamastha the most under rated, any way he is a genius to me he is far out mannnn.....thanks for this Live in Paris version. please upload Man of Leo Paris version if anybody has it I would be very very grateful ........Ben.

  27. j.... ....

This version is from Stomu Yamashta's Go Project and the guitar soloist on this cut is Pat Thrall. I had the honor of studying with this man in NYC.

    What a guitarist!

  28. B.... ....

this is the version from Go Live from Paris though, right ?

  29. D.... N....

    what about PAT Thrall....!

  30. g.... ....

have both versions, the studio and the double live album. both are astonishing masterpeaces. thanks for posting this. pat thrall eh? always thought it was di meola. must be yamashta singing ha ha.

  31. p.... ....

I agree - great guitar! Anyone know who it is? Doesn't sound like Al DiMeola (also from "Go")

  32. M.... P....
