Winwood, Steve - Back In The High Life Again Lyrics
It used to seem to me
That my life ran on too fast
And I had to take it slowly
Just to make the good parts last
But when you're born to run
So don't be surprised to see me
Back in that bright part of town
I'll be back in the high life again
All the doors I closed one time will open up again
I'll be back in the high life again
All the eyes that watched me once will smile and take me in
And I'll drink and dance with one hand free
Let the world back into me
Back in the high life again
You used to be the best
To make life be life to me
And I hope that you're still out there
And you're like you used to be
We'll have ourselves a time
And we'll dance 'til the morning sun
And we'll let the good times come in
We'll be back in the high life again
All the doors I closed one time will open up again
We'll be back in the high life again
All the eyes that watched us once will smile and take us in
And we'll drink and dance with one hand free
And have the world so easily
And oh we'll be a sight to see
Back in the high life again
We'll be back in the high life again
All the doors I closed one time will open up again
All the eyes that watched us once will smile and take us in
And we'll drink and dance with one hand free
And have the world so easily
And oh we'll be a sight to see
Back in the high life again

Winwood, Steve Back In The High Life Again Comments
I own all of Steve Winwood’s shit, you should know this
Amo essa música! Amo você!
I used to think that this was sung by Peter Gabriel, but then I realized that it is far too normal a song to be a Gabriel hit. Read: Normal is something that isn't wacko.
This song is getting me through a rough time right now, pray for me
Now this is boat music
LOVED THAT THIS WAS FILMED ON THE STREETS IN MY HOMETOWN, MANASSAS, VA
"All the doors that closed one time will open up again" - poetry
I had a random dream where I was hugging my not well dad, and this song was playing the while..weird. Love you dad.
12/23/2019
background vocals: James Taylor. What a combo!!!
I just searched this for Always Sunny comments (not disappointed) and now I find myself unable to turn it off. Good shit. And boat music, indeed.
I was drinking miller highlit when I first herd this song
I love that my dad introduced me to him :)
Used to feel like that...you used to be the best to make life be life to me and I hope that you're still out there and you're like you used to be...her name was Nicole Wendell...
It was 1989 & I was 18 had just struck out on my own...so did she...
Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith...solo career. An amazing talent.
I was so busy in the '80s; Madonna was on the horizon and David Bowie and the stuff that came out of my radio was radically curtailed but somehow this song got through. The one thing people don't perhaps know is how young Steve Winwood was … he was what, 13? and a brother would drop him off and pick him up again because he was so young but Gimme Some Loving and something else iconic came from that early time. Someone to be honoured.
It's always sunny in Philadelphia lol
Always sunny?
Now folks, listen to this song once again and listen to and concentrate on the drums/percussion. Ladies and gentlemen that is the genius that is Steve Gadd.
Chai life

If you're drinking a High Life and listening to this - chug!

Thumbs down?? People have no class!
Steve started playing with his Dad and his brother when he was 8. His Dad had to turn the piano round to hide him as he was underage. Steve played in a real band at 14. Truly a legend. His voice is epic.
Wow... !!!!

I've heard this song a million times but i never fully appreciated it until the lyrics related to events in my life.
Never was a huge fan of this, but it's growing on me after listening to Warren Zevon's version. Zevon's take on this is amazing!
Ai meu Deus. Amo essa música.😍😍😍
Thousand people need to go back to their fkn low strung out low ball paying hooker $5 for hand job life.
*Back In The High Life Again...*
I was born in 2000 and I have this weird nostalgic feeling listening to the music of the time, Born in the wrong time perhaps?
You are perhaps.. an Old Soul*... enjoy the Journey!!
Great song. My favorite by Steve Winwood. Still listening to it in 2019!! Great voice.
Dennis Reynolds told me to come here
Free fallin' anyone?
I will put it in the same category as "The way it is" as one one of those Great songs that was apart of your life and still resonates today! Nobody today will ever produce something as Great as this!!
March/April in Sri Lanka in 1987 and loved it then and is still one of my favourite sonds ever!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EatMxZG2fhU The early yrs..
A COME BACK !!!!
Starting my Saturday Morning, in love with life!
I'm here because of the Implications
This song really hits me. It was early 90's living in Idaho... my darkest days., there is this little Town called Gooding. The train track at the end of town, remember the little store on the right, everything like in the video with the train stops lights... pretty damn nostalgic.
I own all of Steve Winwood's shit.
I'll be back in the high life again..... Published on the 27th.2011.✌️🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷1111.
One of the last "cool" white guys with low-key soul. Underrated bop
Who's sick and tired of whos here questions?
This video was shot in Manassas Virginia.. Same train station Stephen Still Band was standing for the cover shot of his "Manassas" album... Steve's voice is one of a kind...One of the greats for sure..
Just finished 12 Miller High Lifes and this song came to mind. 80s rule!
Five star music for five star people
Great artist!
James Taylor back up vocals completes this song.
I ndo love this man. SO sexy!!! Still think he has the look about him of Jeremy Vine. Both GORGEOUS!!! I just LOVE this song. AND the video which goes so well with it. Excellent piece of craftmanship to put it all together so brilliantly. Well done to whomsoever achieved this masterpiece
How did we get from this to Justin Beiber?
Longmire
Drinking a Miller High Life while listening to this right now.
The Champagne of Beers 🍻

Get a second one and you'll be back in the high life again
@Crazy Dazy For the champagne of people.

In the Air Force, newly married, and with a newborn son. He's 33 now and I miss him so much it hurts.
2019 yeaaaaaa
New York city 1993.
"All the doors I closed one time...." Be damned careful about that, people. Close too many of them, and not only will they never open again, they'll cease to exist, and you will be surrounded by walls of your making.
I was a baby when this came out but I heard it a lot on the radio when I was little
I love the story about how Billy Joey crashed your hotel, or apt in NYC and you answered the door while he was combing his hair and he just left the comb there. Before he was a household name.....and you were totally cool with that kid. That is a great story.
This can cure a depression
Anyone in the High life in 2019? I sure as hell am.
get it cuz he high
Love this track and the whole album. Remember playing Stevie's Arc of a Diver LP on a cassette in my Mini car whilst traveling to Wales for my friends Wedding many decades ago. Very happy memories of that trip with SW sounds in the background.
This High Life LP was his best I think and I have met Steve at his Oxford based Solid State Logic 4000 console studio in 1987 when I wired it all up. Lovely chap and great songs (also heard him on his Hammond Organ at the time (wow).
Great song for Lucian's ending, see y'all on the range!
The tone of this song always felt sad to me. Like the dreaming loser lamenting about who he used to be and how someday if he ever gets another shot he'll be back on top again. But he won't and everyone but him knows it. Like a boxer who never made it and is too old now, or a gambler who just needs a lucky streak to get back in the big game in the back room. But it's a truly wonderful song.
Steve's voiced coupled with James Taylor's is perfect
💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
This has a similarity to Throwing it all Away by Genesis... Not that it matters, both great songs!
Definitely a boomer song!

*_I love this song too, and I'm probably the same age as your dad, but in MY naked 20/20 vision eyes, YOUR DAD IS A BULLY!_*
@SnowbirdFlock lmao
Same chord progression in the verse as “Free Fallin” and this came out way before. Just sayin.

Sir
Steve Winwood & James Taylor did this.
I can hear the nashville part of his life creeping out in this song....
For Stobie Hobie
He's determined to get high ... again, regardless of the shame within the local community.
Some guy I work with brought me here looking for "back in the time of the wind" by Bill Collin.
Dope describes my rhymes, making all you MCS cold drop like dimes. You know MCSC is back again, and battling me on the microphone is like committing a sin.

I've seen it all.
