Winter, Johnny - Dust My Broom Lyrics

I'm gettin' up soon in the mornin'
I believe I'll dust my broom
I'm gettin' up soon in the mornin'
I believe I'll dust my broom
I quit the best I'm lovin'
Now my friends can get in my room

I'm gonna write a letter, telephone every town I know
I'm gonna write a letter, telephone every town I know
If I don't find her in mississippi
She be in East Monroe I know

I don't want no woman
Who wants every downtown man she meets
I don't want no woman
Who wants every downtown man she meets
Man cause no good darlin'
They shouldn't lie her on the street yeah

I believe, I believe my time ain't long
I believe, I believe my time ain't long
I ain't gonna leave my baby
And break up my happy home

Winter, Johnny Dust My Broom Comments

    Nobody can touch this guy..nobody.!!!!

Where ever the legendary Elmore James is, if he heard this rendition of Dust My Broom, which he wrote, I'm sure a smile would come across his face. Johnny and Derek Trucks do great justice to this legendary tune. RIP JW & EJ!!!!!!!

The first time I heard Johnny Winter, was the album Second Winter. That was the first and last time I ever saw a 3 sided album. After I listened to it, I was blown away and became a JW fan for life. From that moment, I started playing my guitar everyday. 50 years later, I'm still playing and loving it. In the new millennium, the Legacy Edition of Second Winter was released with 3 cd's. It had all the material from the original album, plus, some additional tracks along with a digitally remastered live performance in Dallas. Classic album!!!!!!!

Even when it was later in his career, and he was physically hurting, he was still a great slide guitarist. Not just his technique, but his feel was incredible. RIP!!!!!!!

    Guitariste génial!Il me manque!!!!!!!!

  7. B.... D....

Lucky to see Jimi, live once brilliant; but Johnny was head and shoulders above the rest even the late Mr Hendrix

  8. S.... S....

One of the very best versions of a classic blues tune by Robert Johnson that I have heard. Johnny & Derek nailed it big time! Gotta love the Blues..................... RIP JW

    S.... S....

Robert was not the first to sing "Dust My Broom." He wasn't even the first to record it. It's one of those old blues tunes that formed in the shadows of music history before the invention of audio recording.

  9. B.... F....

Johnny makes them Strings sing. The music notes are a jumping.

  10. C.... C....

Derek Trucks is great young guitar player his work with the allmond Bro.and other proved himself his respect for Johnny could be seen at crossroads .

71 y/o at the time of death... a life to live. Talent & the will to reach
the end with full integrity to his music and family (his wife).
A one of a kind. See you again John at the resurrection.

  14. C.... H....

Such a totally satisfying version of this tune. Johnny is on fire and Derek Trucks’ players are superb.

  15. G.... H....

Where would mankind have been with out the Fender Stratocaster?

  16. G.... H....

Saw Johnny in po dunk rained out Portland Oregon in 76, he opened for Ted Nugent, should have been the other way around, anyway the concert was so Roundy the banned both Johnny and Ted from ever returning. Johnny  Winters in guitar land, is a giant, best slide player ,

101 years ago, San Bernardino Orange Fairgrounds. Hastily built cyclone fence & Bernadino's finest, ringed the joint. Most rowdy Winter's universe! Edgar, Johnny, Rick, et al, the place is packed, lotsa young fans, open floor, fireworks, empty liquor bottles everywhere, fans sitting on the floor rolling from full baggies, open balcony rails packed, OH what a night.Thanx to all spirit present there.

    G.... H....

I was at that Portland show it aws at the Memorial Coliseum. I haven't gotten my fill of Johnny or Ted yet. I saw both of them later at a club in Portland called The Roseland. Both shows were great. We were close close for Johnny that we had our beers sitting on the stage. Great memories

    G.... H....

Johnny was a great slide player, but Duane Allman was better hands down.

  17. G.... H....

ThePaleRider2 it goes a little farther back than Robert Johnson lol

  23. C.... B....

He made it look easy. But it wasn't. He was that good. Fortunate enough to see him live once. One of the best concerts I have ever seen. RIP JW!

    C.... B....

Saw Johnny& Edgar---yes, both bands together on stage + Rick Deringer @ 'Bernadino National Orange Show Arena [?] 100 years ago, MOST rowdy concert. Lotsa very young fans, empty liquor bottles everywhere, bags of weed being rolled up on the floor surrounded by a crowd waitin for a handout, during the show fans set off fireworks, bottle rockets, place was the size of a high school auditorium, rockets bouncing off the rafters, 'security' was kept outside that nite! I have pictures! Can't put em here, damn............

    C.... B....

@H Stu I was there too. If I remember correctly The Climax Blues Band was the opening act. It was a great concert. I was right up front and my ears rang for two days after.

    C.... B....

@Tom Aless ......ringed the venue with chain link, pigs on the OUTSIDE!!!.....

    C.... B....

@H Stu At the time it was called The San Bernardino Swing Auditorium.

    Yes it is!

  26. D.... W....

I don't know how many versions I have heard this by other artists, but J.W. owns it!

    D.... W....

Elmore owns it, and always will. But he lets Johnny play it any time he wants.

  27. A.... Y....

На альбоме Roots (2011), Джонни Винтер осуществил свою давнюю мечту, записав любимые блюзовые стандарты таких столпов блюза как Сон Хаус, Мадди Уотерс, Роберт Джонсон, Элмор Джеймс и др.

I remember seeing Johnny Winter on Don Kirshners Rock Concert about 100 years ago. I was hooked with one version of "Mean Town Blues", and was tickled pink that he used a thumb pick, instead of a straight pick, which no real guitarist would do. My dad, who played guitar (thumb pick) ragged my ass about using a straight pick, and told me I'd never be as good as Johnny Winter (he was right, because I'm still not). Anyhow, Johnny played at a local ribs and blues fest a couple of years ago, and I didn't hear about it until after the fact. I missed an opportunity to see him in my own area, which I will never get again. I find that a bit depressing. Thank Christ that there is the internet and places like You Tube, so that we can all share these people with unbelievable talent. I often think of my dad who died before home computers were in vogue, and wish I had even one weekend with him just to play all the stuff that he liked, but never got a chance to see.

  29. A.... G....

Johnny didn't open the door for white progressive blues he kicked the door down..even though I never knew him I knew him in spirit.you'll be missed!! lonesome Allen glass

  30. D.... W....

Admittedly, this is my first time hearing of this man. He sounds great, and this is better than most music these days. RIP

    D.... W....

Check out his performances at Woodstock, both the original in '69 and the ten-year reunion in '79. Johnny performed for 55 years of his 70. RIP, Bluesman.

    D.... W....

Check out any of Johnny's covers of Highway 61 Revisited if you want to get the essence of his slide playing. People will ague who was better Johnny or Duane. As far as i'm concerned, Johnny was the best ever.

  31. A.... ....

I hadn't heard, what a great performer ,I loved seeing him many times in the 60's and 70's,I loved the way he waltzed around on stage with a long long cord playing so brilliantly.RIP JOHNNY
