Wilson, Steven - The Holy Drinker Lyrics
The Holy Drinker and his curse
In constant serfage to unquenchable thirst
And from his stupor the night gives birth
The devil rises from right out of the earth
With shaking hands and blackened heart
The glass he pours, this time it's also the last
In rapt communion with himself
The Holy Drinker is going straight in to hell
The coffin was made from a tree
Please hammer a nail in for me
The bottle slipped right through
Now underground
Take me down
Down
Put me in chains

Amazingg Thumbnail!
3.53 parabola right there
Am I the only one , who thinks that arount 8:36 it sounds like a fair judgment by opeth?
NoTomoNuncaMASSSSS
Sounds like Morrissey / The Smiths
An outstanding song!
Jon Lord would be proud of that filthy as fuck organ tone in the last section. Monster tone
The first minute make me think of a serial killer mind
Love how this reminds so many people of so many classic tracks and classic bands. There is a reason why Steven Wilson is a legend of music.
Can anyone tell me what that instrument is at 8:37, leading into the coda?
I love when they use instruments that are untraditional for rock songs.
This is prog man, is normal in this subgenre
6:25 reminds me of Final Fantasy
This is every old prog band wrapped into one single song. Brilliant.
3:30 I'm sorry, but this totally sounds like Death, especially with the harmonising guitar... And that's awesome!

ааааааааааааааааааааа.............. :)))
From a family of alcoholics, this song sums up my sentiments well, both in sound and in verse. Especially "the bottle slipped right through", taking that damn drug right into the grave.
6:16 Emerson, Lake and Palmer... Anyone?
Steven Wilson is like having all tge Progressive bands together in one only guy... This is Jethro Tull mixed with Rush...The change of rythm remembers me Jethro's "Aqualung"... Bass player Nick Beggs, in this record is totally Geddy Lee's; doesn´t reminds me his time with Kajagoogoo
Ever green
3:18 remainder the black dog?
What a great piece of art... I'm stunned.
hi my name is steven wilson and i do bits of crimson floyd and yes
yes it sounds like old prog thats the problem youve heard it all before
6:15 - Keith Emerson is alive!!!!
That synth solo from 01:01 to 01:22 has a lot of Mahavishnu's McLaughlin guitar style to my ears
8:36, Pure Fockin Evil!
music to smoke weed?
Er hat vollkommen Recht.Mir geht's genauso.Gut .🤔
6:15 is so ELP.
I know, serious Tarkus vibes
i'm sorry, what is the name of the album?
Asami Cat The Raven That Refused to Sing.
The sax playing reminds me of Sailor's Tale because of the speed.
Dang them drums are incredible
2:25 which organ is this
Slightly overdriven Hammond B3 going from E to D
section at 6:17 reminds me of some band, can someone help me? anglagard comes to my mind but its definitely not it

Mr. Steven Wilson is an OG.
Jean-Mi du 13
grosos los chicos!!......es una mezcla de grupos de los 80
Nice music. Never heard of the guy before. Just read a long article/interview with him in March 2016 Record Collector magazine, interesting guy.
I hear a bit of Mahavishnu Orchestra and Gong in there...!!
Great stuff.
+Doktor Uzi Seriously. Listen to his solo work and his work in Porcupine Tree. You will not regret it.
Thanks...will check him out further..
Steven Wilson >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> God
More a genius.
@LemmyIsNotDead Genius > God
Wtf kind of statement is this?
Musicccccc.......
lemme guess... 13?
HAHA I love how there is a saxophone and a flute on this heavy track
3 words for you : King crimson - Starless
Who are the 25 people who disliked this? *Oprah voice* "YOU GET A LOBOTOMY,YOU GET A LOBOTOMY, AND YOU GET A LOBOTOMY!"
Does anyone other feel kinda Opethish sound behind this song?
in every opeth songs there are steve wilson influences
I don't think so...new Opeth and early material is all Akerfeltd.
...apart from the fact that Steven Wilson has better prog songwriting chops.
Latter-day Opeth's problem isn't that the heavy elements have gone, but that the songwriting can be downright clunky.
pale communion to me @Ian Lewis
8:55 hell yeah
This is fucking superb
Steven Wilson-The Holy Drinker
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leIIlezYJMI Thanks
Thanks. I was having trouble finding the song!
So much ELP...
The heavy guitar riff has similarities to Rush's 'Cygnus X-1'
Em outras palavras, "O cão foi quem botou pra nóis beber"♪.
+André Cabeça HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA
+André Cabeça Hhahahaahahahhahhaah EU RI !
So So Good...
Mother F---ing bad assed!!!!!
your an asteroid
+Mario VaRoca No no, but you are an asteroid.
This sounds an awful lot like *70s prog band with flute player*, doesn't it?
I think that's the focus of a lot of the album. I'm seeing the album as almost a tribute of some sorts to all the earlier prog rock bands.
JBDBIB Baerman lol I was being sarcastic because of all the comments comparing this to every 70s prog band they could think of
Ah there's a lot of that.
Reminds me of Sound Chaser
So true. One of my favorite Yessongs
Van Der Graaf Generator Anyone?
+Tamir Burstein Bruh!!!!
holy fuck, you guys love to compare
@Woombath What's wrong with that?
@Mitchell Gillett nothing, he wasn't stressing probably, just pointing it out
8:42 sounds like VDGG
what kind of thinking does steve wilson have each and every songs are crazy god damn awsome
Im going with you tomorrow to imenn england
So many musical styles in one song, utterly brilliant tune. I love the Fusion feel in some parts of the track. Mind you with musicians such as Nick Beggs and Guthrie Govan on the Album, it can't go too wrong. Add that to Steven's songwriting talent and it's bliss.
hergonomic chess with chairs and superb bio-careless-whispers in you eyes.. :O ;)
+Mario VaRoca I was just about to say exactly that ;-)
AMAZING! Prog, yes :p
A great piece of music indeed. I would like to see Mike Patton get together with this Steven very interesting me thinks! Let's not forget Nick Beggs on Bass. He is bar far one of the best Bass players out of this country. His work on the Chapman Stick is incredible as good as Tony Levine. I think people look at him in Kajagoogoo and dismiss him. He is a talent no doubt about that and a nice geezer to boot.
@dave nightingale rip engrish
+dave nightingale Better yet, John Zorn.
+Dave Night It would have been cool to hear Mike Patton on this track
I would like to listen to your alblondigas con queso
He could stand almost toe to toe with Roger Waters
That bit from 7:30 onwards is VERY reminiscent of early Genesis. Not a bad thing at all.
@Christian Karcher I would say more King Crimson-y....
That was fucking amazing
The MOST prog!
@Krowsnest The Progest!
Anyone know the time signature once Guthrie comes in at the beginning (around the 20 second mark)? I know it can be written on score in 4/4 but Marco seems to be drumming in something else (or could just be him accenting strange beats). 12/8 works but seems like it would make the tempo marker really slow. Anyone know?
Yeah, it's in 4/4. Marco is splitting the 8th notes in three groups, precisely 3-3-2 (which adds up to 8 notes, which means 4/4). He's indeed accenting strange beats (well not so strange as it's pretty common but whatever you get the idea).
@MaintainTheFrogsBite Cheers my man!
The beginning reminds me of Weather Report, and later on I hear U.K.! Great song!
makes my car go slightly faster for some reason.
@Bothand Nether LOL mine too
My dick either
ESL Alert: Shouldn't that be "My dick ALSO"?
Have the same feeling with the sax solo on The Pin Drop
God damn every song on this album is like the #1 hit from an old prog band.
Except old prog bands don't HAVE #1 hits; old prog bands AREN'T radio-friendly. Old prog bands BECOME radio-friendly (YES; GENESIS)---or they die (R.I.P. GENTLE GIANT).
King Crimson still exists and they haven't become radio-friendly :)
Everybody praising Wilson, overlooking all the other musicians involved, most of whom are way better than him. Tch tch.
+josefvickers You people for once need to learn the damn difference between bluntly "ripping something off-" or "inspiring something on-". ...See the difference? There's quite a bit you know! But yes, this is all obviously, I dare say heavily, influenced on those type of bands.
You do realize that SW wrote all the songs on this album, right? Guthrie and Minnemann may be more technically advanced than him, but he's the mastermind behind the whole record.
While you all are discusing about who's a better musician, just try to remember that is not a race, not a competition. There's no better and worse music, just different music.
That being said, you can listen to all of those people's work since there's no need to choose either. Get your snobby asses outta here to buy some ice cream, I don't know, be happy.
Sure, they are better, but who composed everything is Steven lmao
You don't know shit. You're that pretentious internet commenter who knows nothing and makes ridiculous comments nonetheless. SW's music is emotionless? Fuck you. Not because your opinion is different from mine, I don't give a shit about that, but because you're a fucking pretentious prick.
very Opeth-ish song
@Yvan Cluet May be the reason is Steve has spent a lot of time with Opeth. But it is one of its kind as well. \m/
@ped0bearable Steven Wilson has said that Opeth showed him how heavy metal music could still be interesting and innovative in a modern context after he heard "Still Life", so basically the incorporation of heavier guitar elements from In Absentia going forward had a lot to do with Opeth.
Everyone here seems to be bending over backwards to say how original Wilson is, but he really isn't: he pretty much wears his influences on his sleeve; he has many, many influences, though, so it's still interesting a lot of the time.
@Vojife Indeed, it sounds like King Crimson instead of Opeth.
@TrevRockOne Genius isnt always about being completely original. Genius could also very well be about using ideas from many different sources and combining them to create new things.
Igor Stravinsky did this.
Holy fuck, you guys really love to compare
Superb.+++
The MASTER creates another masterpiece.
Love this... Just like I love Opeth... You guys checked out Storm Corosion? mix of both excellent performers
Storm Corrosion is great
ending part is great. my favorite song in the album.
My fav is Drive Home
full hd - 360p? great ;d
Hi, my name is Steven Wilson and I'm a f--king genius...
Only an idiot can dislike this masterpiece..
ja a 25 ideotas no le gusta esto steven Wilson es música lml
ognuno ha i propri gusti, le proprie motivazioni
theneedledrop gave the album a 5/10, its ridiculous. Go check out his review on it.
He sucks because he tries to be the expert on every piece of music ever written. This is great fuck that guy.
Prog music is an acquired taste. It can be quite abrasive if you're not used to it.
Etéreo...
There´s something very special about the combination of those drums, the bass and the flute.. just insane!
Nice bass
la flauta y el bajo lo mejor saludos desde México
Steven Wilson bless Steven Wilson
Fucking gud album awesome
The Power itself
Thinking Hatfield and the North here.
sequentialable12 For a moment, I misread that for "Hetfield" and was like "How in the fuck is this anything reminiscent of Metallica?"
Then I noticed that it's an A, not an E.
Can we call it "jazz metal"?
Maybe you could but without dumb music labels its better! Each compositor its special, specially SW!
@Kevin Alonso Salazar Sandí Rivers don't know their own names but you still want to know which one to travel to get where you want to go...
I know how it's called. All i'm saying is that if we had to say there's something called "jazz metal", or if we had to find some equilibrated, intelligent, well thought and yet fresh and creative as an artistic expression way blend of jazz and metal elements which we could call "jazz metal", this should be the one.
