Wilson Pickett - Mojo Mama Lyrics

Thirty-two miles out of way cross
By Hokey Panoky swamp
I met a mojo woman's daughter
And that's the woman I want

She smell like a wildflower
And her touch is gonna drive me mad
If I get her in the midnight hour
I get some lovin' that I never had
Listen

Mojo woman set your daughter free, hey
Put down your mojo, let her come with me
Mojo woman, it's gonna be alright
We're leavin' for Atlanta on the train tonight, oh yeah

Thirty-two miles out of way cross
I can hear the north bound train
It sound like the mojo woman
Callin' out her baby's name

Mojo woman set your daughter free, oh
And put down your mojo, let her come with me, oh yeah
Mojo woman, it's gonna be alright
We're leavin' on a train tonight

Sound Dimension did an excellent version for Studio One called "Mojo Rock Steady".

I agree with bman342a...that entrance brass was immediately recognizable, and so spot on that I started singing:  and then became a little startled to soon discover I wasn't singing the right song!!  Great song here....I just hope all those writing credits were dispersed properly.  In the meantime....this song was a surprise to me....and helped me to get my "Mojo werkin' "

Paul Ballenger - have you (or Eddie Hinton) got a copy of the Don Varner version I could buy?  Just eMail me: [email protected]

+Ryvita - Sorry for the tardy reply.   I don't have any copies of any records on which Eddie and I wrote, co-produced, published, co-published, played on, sang on, etc.  All were given away, stolen, pirated, and/or mysteriously evaporated.

My dad had one of just 2 copies of "Tearstained Face" in the early 70s. Huge money these days!

Don Varner's version is on YouTube though the Hoagy Lands original is not!

You are exactly on target. Eddie Hinton & I later produced this song, performed by Don Varner, for South Camp Records with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section (aka Swampers). Several months after Varner's version was released, "25 Miles" was a hit.

Thanks for posting. "25 Miles" by Edwin Starr (who performed, and has writing credit along with 4-5 others), was clearly a rip-off of this song (which was originally recorded as "32 Miles out of Waycross" by Hoagy Lands. 25 Miles became a huge hit for Motown, that the original writers eventually shared writing credit because of the similarity.
