The production is just... Idk. I miss the warmth of the bass line on the original sessions. And for once, Mike Love was right. His lyrics were better.

These were the lyrics written by Brian... The lyrics on the studio recording and album/single versions lyrics are different and those were co-written by Brian and Mike because he thought the original lyrics (these lyrics) s weren't "Beach Boys"...dont get ne wrong the album version is great as well... But Mike Love said the same thing about Pet Sounds and yes at first it wasnt as appreciated but thata because it was when Brian wanted to prove that The Beach Boys were actually really good musicians and he was sick of signing about the beach and surfing... Now Pet Sounds is regarded as one of the greatest musical compositions ever written, which i completley agree with. To me Briam Wilson is the Mozart of the 20th Century...the definition of a true musical genius... Thank you for all your music that has helped soo many people smile over the yrs. My name is Brian and my father named me after Brian Wilson... Im only 31 but i grew up listening to rock n roll from a newborn to this day...everything from elvis and the beach boys to led zeppelin,the doors,black Sabbath,Hendrix,etc...that was all as i was growing up...now i pass it onto my 3 yr old son.

RIP Nicky Wonder...taken from us way too soon! One of the brilliant cofounders of the Wondermints, who play on this fabulous album. Feel so very lucky to have seen him on numerous occasions when he played with Brian Wilson.

He is the biggest inspiration on me as a musician, his story with The Beach Boys and struggles with mental illness just inspires me, because I have a few mental illnesses of my own...

I wish to one day meet Brian and show get my music recognized by him.

I am a huge fan, and rock The Beach Boys music everyday, along with The Beatles and other fantastic 50's-60's groups.

Both versions are amazing in their own right. I love to hear how Brian hears the same song differently on his own. Just as Stephen King changed his screenplays for mini series for TV compared to movie scripts, Brian evolves a song to fit a generation, a mood or a genre. That's what makes him Brian Wilson. Ten years from now, he may make another version and blow our minds. I personally, hope he does. Good or bad, Brian is doing what he does best. Pushing limits and following his inner voice and letting it come out as music. We are lucky he lets us in to hear it at all.

Id like love to hear the Brians voice off the new version on the original version.

please don't fight over Brian. Paul said Brian's music(Pet Sounds especially) touched him on such a deep level that it made him cry. This is still an absolutely amazing recording. Add to that, when it was released. At the time, it was out there all by itself. Nothing else came close.

Absolutely. Idk what the Fab Four could have cooked up to answer this modular, production masterpiece. Surf's Up is every bit the song A Day In The Life is.... Most certainly!! No one, NO ONE, was as good as Brian Wilson during the mid-sixties😎

I kinda wish the added vocals around 2:52 would have made it into the final version. I guess the removal of it adds a kind of "calm before the storm" in terms of a reprise of the main section of the song, but still.

Well you'll be pleased to hear that there is a version of the original Beach Boys recording with that section. It was recorded originally but cut out. The version with that section is in the 'Smile Sessions' CD released about five years ago. Well worth buying!
