Williams, Lucinda - Greenville Lyrics

Don't wanna see you again or hold your hand
Cause you don't really love me you're not my man
You're not my man oh you're not my man
Go back to Greenville just go on back to Greenville
You scream and shout and you make a scene
When you open your mouth you never say what you mean
Say what you mean oh say what you mean
Go back to Greenville just go on back to Greenville
You drink hard liquor you come on strong

You lose your temper someone looks at you wrong
Looks at you wrong oh looks at you wrong
Go back to Greenville just go on back to Greenville
Out all night playin in a band

Looking for a fight with a guitar in your hand
A guitar in your hand oh a guitar in your hand
Go back to Greenville just go on back to Greenville
Empty bottles and broken glass

Busted down doors and borrowed cash
Borrowed cash oh the borrowed cash
Go back to Greenville just go on back to Greenville
Looking for someone to save you
Looking for someone to rave about you
To rave about you oh to rave about you
Go back to Greenville just go on back to Greenville

Williams, Lucinda Greenville Comments
  1. D.... A....

    Shes just all of it

  2. L.... ....

She's so strong, yet so vulnerable.... a killer combination. That smile at the end sums her up for me. You don't have to live the life to write the songs Lucinda; protect your heart x

  3. a.... ....

is that Gerx up on the left, he is such a beautiful player

  4. A.... ....

She is a woman who has been trying to live like a young sinful man. That is why she is sad; she gave her life to music rather than to God

  5. E.... M....

    Lov Lov Lov you Lucinda.

  6. A.... 7....

She can slay a dragon with mere words.....the great Lucinda Williams.

  7. T.... H....

That great smile at the end!

  8. r.... ....

Magical, angelic, hauntingly beautiful, moving me to tears of what true love is and the hurt that a woman can feel for a man she loves but knows he can never give her what she really needs. thank you Lucinda, God bless

  9. W.... S....

Looks like Jim Lauderdale on harmonies and guitar.

  11. V.... E....

Such emotion drips from this song it would seem that Lucinda must be writing about her own life somehow. And she lays it out for us to feel. My, my! This is just good.

  12. G.... H....

stunning, touching, legendary. One of the 100 best songs in all categories (and super musiciens).

  13. G.... D....

C'mon how about that drummer....excellent percussionist

  14. M.... W....

She definitely has been ignored by Tennessee. Awesome talent, I'm so glad I discovered her & her music!!!

  15. L.... H....

    *26 Maret 2019*

  16. G.... H....

    She is a Goddess

  17. g.... ....

Never ever had an "ohhhh" leave such an ache in my heart. I second Rick Fritschy's conclusion....perfect. Thank you Lucinda.

  18. c.... z....

There's a story that Lu was in a bar in Nashville drunkenly bitching about the state of country music as personified by Faith Hill and her ilk. She looked across the room, and who did she see listening ? That's right. Faith Hill. OOPS!

  19. E.... n....

One of the best ever! Love Lucinda!!! ❤🇧🇷

  20. G.... H....

    A marvelous songwriter.

  21. D.... C....

Totally ignored by the Nashville suits (and cowboy hats ), but i'd put her up against any of 'em -- and she'd beat them.  Didn't think it was possible but I now put her ahead of Patsy Cline as my favorite.

    D.... C....

She isn't made for that crappy commercial country. She's the real deal.

    D.... C....

Better than the others she’s real ;: fantastic !

  22. E.... p....

So much depth and soul. I love her so much.

  23. J.... S....

This is perfectection. Is that Kenny Vaughn on the far right at 2:57? And Lu’s smile at the end is pure glorious sunshine. ❤️✌️

    B.... B....

When you listen to this beautiful song and listen to the words, it could easily be another song about Blaze Foley. Anyways i love her. Her voice and words are straight from the heart

  25. C.... M....

    Wow nice

  26. B.... B....

    xoxoxox

  27. J.... J....

Some people have received a gift from God (or whomever)

  28. W.... J....

She is prettier than I remember.

  29. L.... S....

Love her. I listen to Drunken Angel probably three times a week on Youtube. But "Blue" is up there with it. And "Those Three Days." Oh, wait, I just thought of 20 more. Perfect blend of melody and lyrics.

  30. T.... C....

It's that Jimmy Lauderdale to her left.

  31. J.... J....

    A voice to die for!

  32. R.... A....

Just as good as it gets!!!

  33. M.... B....

    Lucinda !

  34. R.... L....

It doesn’t get much better than this,
Lucinda is the embodiment of heartache in song.

  35. J.... K....

Beautiful song, beautiful smile at the end

  36. r.... ....

Who knew that the bad guy from "No Country for Old Men" had a Martin? (*Fine* song, Ms. W. Eloquent Tele, too.)

  37. C.... M....

Her voice has a haunting quality to it...ethereal almost. Love her.

  38. R.... K....

She is so raw. Absolutely love her. Talk about wearing your heart on your sleeve. She cuts herself open for us to see her heart.

  39. J.... H....

    Jake Bugg

  40. W.... B....

Anybody know Lucindas back up singer. Think hes been with the band a while. Great talent as is Kenny V

    W.... B....

Walter Behrens That's Jim Lauderdale, a fine songwriter in his own right.

  41. R.... S....

And Kenny Vaughn on guitar also. Wow.

  42. R.... S....

Jim Lauderdale on guitar and singing with her.

    R.... S....

Thank you, because I knew I knew who that was, was looking through the comments to remember his name, glad you named him for me.

  43. W.... B....

    The beautiful Lucinda

  44. h.... ....

    Beautiful

  45. 4.... L....

Awkward guitar solo in an otherwise nice performance

    4.... L....

    Really?

    4.... L....

    Ahem, still waiting...

    4.... L....

I thought it was great. I was going to ask who that player was.

    4.... L....

    @Paul Davis https://www.discogs.com/artist/2259782-John-Jackson-27

    4.... L....

Based on your icon, it is obvious you have no knowledge or appreciation of alt country and the nuances involved with lead playing on songs like this. Please don't show your ignorance with such stupid ass comments. Go back to listening to Motley Crue........

  46. B.... C....

Beautiful Lucinda, singing her sad and gorgeous music..........

  47. M.... B....

How have I never heard this song?  I've heard (and loved) a lot of Lucinda Williams songs over the years.  I guess I have to buy the albums...  This is amazing.

    M.... B....

Loved her forever. Like Dylan her songs are so real and close to someone (like me) who feels life deeply. If you're shallow, move on. It's real man, it's life.

    M.... B....

Yep we all like different things and my tastes are more like yours.  I like deep, honest and self reflective imperfection.  :)

  48. J.... S....

omg why have i never come across the woman before......brilliant!!

    J.... S....

The whole concert is available on you tube and its all this good.

    J.... S....

Lucky you to have all her stuff fresh and new to you!

  49. J.... M....

Lucinda is my comfort food. She is always there for us when we need her. I love Lucinda and I am gay. :)

    J.... M....

Joe Molaski - "comfort food" I completely understand!

    J.... M....

comfort food! YES ...like sitting on your mama's lap-everything will be alright.

  50. c.... ....

That telecaster solo was fine too. Very tasty.

  51. S.... S....

for the longest time i thought it was "just go on back to drinking, go on back to drinking" until my girlfriend called me an alcoholic and said it was "greenville"

    S.... S....

Scott Stucott - that is both funny and sad. ha!

    S.... S....

you are both wrong, it says; Scott you gotta stop drinking, you gotta stop drinking. I THINK that is how it goes- I think

  52. C.... H....

This one speaks for my heart -the words I could not find.

  53. W.... L....

May be the best thing i have ever seen.

  54. D.... W....

I go back to this song, again and again.....it resonates with me, with a tear in my eye and a smile on my face.

    D.... W....

    Doug Whole nice

    D.... W....

@Camero Holster .....now I'm going to have to listen to this again! But first I always need a few drinks.

  55. D.... S....

VERY SOOTHING, RELAXING SONG. LOVE IT.

  56. D.... S....

    JUST PLAIN BEAUTIFUL.

  57. G.... ....

Man I love Lucinda Williams. There's nothing better than this IMO

    G.... ....

Greg IKR? Even the rockers up here listen to her. Took a New Orlenian to show'em ... 🙄🙄🙄

  58. W.... ....

OMG!!! Makes my soul weep. I love her.

  59. J.... C....

    This is great stuff!!!...

  60. M.... K....

What a quality! for a moment I thought it was 2012 or something. Lucinda Williams such a beautiful lady. I wish she always stayed the same :( .... Beautiful song by the way!.

  61. J.... M....

one of her best. straight from the heart

  62. N.... A....

Untouchable. This song is stunning and she delivers a flawless performance. Fan for life.

    N.... A....

Nancy Atlas Yes, me too...for life..

    N.... A....

    So true it hurts...

    N.... A....

    Just.....wow.

  63. K.... O....

Fuck that's good. It's just good.

  64. B.... C....

On second thought, the best singer / song writer ever, bar none.

    B.... C....

@Tammy Martin Just call us Europe! Lol

    B.... C....

@squeakydog call us anything, just don't call us late for dinner😉. I love your country! I was lucky enough to spend a couple of weeks there, mostly in York, and except for some really rude Yankee woman from the northern USA who kept upsetting folks. She seemed to be 15 minutes ahead of me no matter where I went. I made friends with a group of wonderful people & they taught me how to order a pint so no one knew I wasn't local 😃if they were talking about her I just moved on! True story. The weather was great so was the food but the people were just great.

    B.... C....

@al bundy hi, you cant compare Barbara & Patsy, you your opinion was voided by you.

    B.... C....

    @squeakydog that's a whole continent!

    B.... C....

@al bundy Bumbe, you're a bummer & really why don't you go listen to someone you enjoy? If you're wanting to discover go discover Nancy Griffith, she will blow your tiny mind. Byby

  65. R.... F....

Sometimes things come together and they're perfect . . .

    R.... F....

Rick Fritschy all was in at that moment, musicians, Sound Set, light Set, everything!

    R.... F....

    Seldom but here it is.

  66. B.... C....

She is the best. Up there with Hank Williams.

    B.... C....

Born 25 days after he died, I think it is Hank

    B.... C....

    Better than Hank. Hands down

    B.... C....

You'd have to be a fool to think Hank had these writing and playing chops. She's in a class she created on her own. Theres only one person I can think of who can stand toe to toe with her - Dori Freeman

    B.... C....

Way better than Hank. That's offensive to consider otherwise

  67. J.... H....

our wrinkles are our most interesting trait . ??

  68. E.... V....

    Jim Lauterdale on background vocals?

    E.... V....

@robert donaldson ok, you got me snooping. Could that be Bo Ramsey? Not sure...

    E.... V....

@robert donaldson I saw her in Boulder in July or August 2001 at some small venue. I think Bo Ramsey and maybe Doug Pettibone. Maybe. I will take correction. They do what I would like to do on guitar. Not to mention backing up LW!!

    E.... V....

@Richard Donnell ok I'm gonna start snooping now too

    E.... V....

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_Wheels_on_a_Gravel_Road

    E.... V....

Bo Ramsey, Johnny Lee Schell, Buddy Miller, they are listed under personel in the Wiki for that year. Whoever it is was a great fit as well as a great guitarist.

  69. N.... o....

Lucinda tears your heart out with this song. But I guess that's what she's supposed to do. Love it...

  70. C.... P....

Lucinda reminds me of a Dylan song, sad eyed lady of the lowlands, she has such a sad face, beautiful and extremely talented, but I fear, like most musical treasures it's going to end in tragedy, I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

    C.... P....

Coco Paul YOU ARE TOTALLY WRONG!
I know Lu and she couldn't be happier!
Her husband Tom is a prince of a man and they Both are madly in LOVE!

    C.... P....

This was Twenty years ago and she is still with; Thank God.

  71. C.... C....

What a monster musician........I always am touched by her music.....very much so. You go girl !

    C.... C....

This song makes my eyes moisten.

  72. P.... D....

Wonderful. One of my favorite songs off the Car Wheels on a Gravel Road album. Thanks for posting.

  73. D.... L....

Makes me proud to be from the Ms. delta (thought I'd never say that!).... Of course it might be G'ville, S.C.., but that wouldn't fit with the gravel roads. I shoulda looked it up before posting...apologies :)

    D.... L....

Although she is from Lake Charles, so maybe it may be Greenville you are thinking of. :)

  74. J.... W....

    This song lays me OUT!!

  75. k.... j....

    Great kiss off song!

  76. F.... L....

  78. R.... H....

    d.... s....

    @degli spiriti agreed....

    d.... s....

    She always does.

  81. O.... ....

    I love this woman.

  82. a.... ....

Very nice performance of a great song. I miss Emmylou's harmony vocals a bit, but you can't have everything!

  83. s.... ....

I want to hear the songs shes going to write
about her husband. I met him a few times and he was
always a dick and very rude to her fans..

    s.... ....

really - Lucinda's husband?  I hate to hear that :(

    s.... ....

+Pam P Look if she ever gets tired of him I know someone who would like to try out :)

  84. L.... L....

    I'm seeing her tonight! :)

  85. g.... ....

    very cool

  86. s.... ....

I wonder who this about?? all her songs are
    about someons she knew..

    s.... ....

It's about a couple of people whose lives and deaths and love with her she associates with the South.

    s.... ....

Reminds me that it could be about the Great Blaze Foley?

  87. e.... ....

Lucinda! LOVE the brunette look!!! and as always your beautiful lyrics and voice :D

  88. P.... D....

This is a great performance of a very sincere song.  I'm glad I wandered by.
