Williams Jr., Hank - Hamburger Steak, Holiday Inn Lyrics

Hamburger steak, Holiday Inn
That's the kinda world that I live in
Play a different town most every night
Lovin' your woman write a new song that's my life

That's my life and I love it that's my life
There ain't nothin' else in the world above it
I see people all alone pickin' their guitars and singin' their songs
But I tell 'em forget it cause you can't fake it
If you're gonna make it you've gotta live it

I got a big bus with a TV and a bar
And a little room in the back for me and my ole guitar
Gotta stop and fuel up every five hundred miles
Give a picture to the waitress eat a little breakfast country style

That's my life and I love it that's my life
There ain't nothin' else in the world above it
I see people all alone pickin' their guitars and singin' their songs
But I tell 'em forget it cause you can't fake it
If you're gonna make it you've gotta live it

We get home to Nashville on a Monday night
Record songs on Tuesday and on Wednesday take out the wife
But then on Thursday night it's back on the road
I don't care if it's Montana or down in Louisiana just as long as I go

That's my life and I love it that's my life
There ain't nothin' else in the world above it
I see people all alone pickin' their guitars and singin' their songs
But I tell 'em forget it cause you can't fake it
If you're gonna make it you've gotta live it

I don’t care what anyone says but Hank Jr is one hell of a songwriter. Why he’s not in the Country Music Hall of Fame is rediculous. Over paid cover singers like George strait, Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks n Luke Bryan don’t measure up to ole Bocrphus

Hank has amazingly performed more songs than almost any other country singers! I still love me some Jones but hank is the man!!

Hank hit this theme one more time in his young career. In 1975, on the Hank Jr. and Friends album, Hank wrote "Brothers' of the Road". Although it has a more odd composition than this one that was sort of a product of it's time, which made it sort of Brady Kids sounding in a sense, it was likewise just as creative and original sounding as this one; but it adds another element this one doesn't have. In that tune, Hank not only shares with us what it's like to be on the road, going town to town, but also sort takes on the role of spokesman or a leadership position for all touring musical acts of all genres; and keep in mind, in 1975, he would have been 26 years old; he is only 22 or 23 here; just like his father, you wonder how such a young person could write such words that seem to come from a very experienced mind... "brothers of the road all share the same load" and it doesn't matter whether you're "rock or country, blues of funky". Hank was a great talent, but could have been more if he'd stayed more serious about his career and the product that he put out there, and if he had stayed with the things he did best and what his growing fan base wanted from him back in these days. Writing about his own plight, condition and overcoming the odds against him; writing that uplifts the south and rural America; writing to promote law, order, and justice and uncommercialized music; and singing with that wonderful voice he could produce when he really tried to do well with his own ballads and those written by others as well.

    Awesome ole Bocephus

1972-"Eleven Roses" album. The title track, "eleven roses" went to number 1. It was his second number 1.

This song is technically what I rate as pre-rowdy even though it has alot of post-rowdiness sound to it. I rate pre-rowdy as everything HWJR did before the album "Hank Jr. and Friends" in 1976. Unlike many fans, I don't divide the two careers of Hank Jr pre and post the "fall in Montana", which was later in 1975, because technically he did the "Rowdy" kind of album, "Hank Jr. and Friends" before the Montana trip and before the bad accident. I feel like that if you examine his career and look at only the pre Rowdy music that Hank recorded from 1964-1974, that he would still be one of the best country male vocalists in history. Go back and listen to all those singles released and see if you agree? To me, especially from 1970-1974, they are really well sung songs even though many of them were covers or original songs not written by him. He still sang them much better than many of his contemporaries at the time.

Gregory Faulkner Bocephus is one of the best ever. He doesn't get the respect he deserves. He should be in the Country Hall of Fame. He was the biggest country act in the 80s hands down. I love all his music pre-rowdy and post-rowdy.
