Williams Jr., Hank - Beyond The Sunset Lyrics
Should you go first and I remain to walk the road alone
I'll live in memory's garden dear with happy days we've known
In spring I'll wait for roses red when fade with lilac's blue
And in early fall when the brown leaves fall I'll catch a glimpse of you
Should you go first and I remain for battles to be fought
I hear you boys I see your smile though blindly I may grow
The mem'ry of your helping hand will boil me on the thought
Beyond the sunset oh blisful morning when with our Saviour heaven is begun
Earth stroll is ending oh glory dawning beyond the sunset when day is done
Should you go first and I remain to finish with the scroll
No lenghtenin' shadows shall creep in to make this life seem droll
We've known so much of happiness we've had our cup of joy
And mem'ry is one gift of God that death cannot destroy
I want you to know each step you take that I may walk the same
For someday down that lonely road you'll hear me call your name
Walk slowly down that long long path for soon I'll follow you
In that fair homeland we'll know no parting beyond the sunset for evermore

This was played at my great grandas funeral today, emotional saying goodbye to a man that was such a big part of your life.. but I know he would be proud of me and proud of tonight and all the fun we had in rememberance of his life and the life he lived.
R.I.P. Ginny.
This was played at my grandfathers funeral back in june 2002, he and father used to sing round the clubs locally for years and i'd help to carry the equipment for free beer as a teenager. my granda's favorite of hanks that he sang was cheatin heart. my father would sing many of hanks aswell as marty robbins, eddy arnold and many many more. miss you so much granda, 17 years and still hurts like hell. love you
Lost my wife of 35 yrs love this song!
One of my many Hank favourites . God Bless Ole Hank ❤️❤️
She did go first. R.I.P. Ginny.
A song from his heart and meaning.
35 years with the love of my life, miss you Sweetheart!
Miss my grandparents, this song goes through me
The definitive version !
This song was played at my beepaws funeral
This is a great version but Red Foleys is even better,Thanks for sharing,Keith
Love to hear HANK Williams SING .
The Country Master
Do we know our name one with each others ???
My daddy cries each time he hears this song. A few years back the doctors gave him medicine that messed with his mind. During this time we listened to this song and he asked me to sing it at his funeral. After he had been taken off of the medication and I asked him one day if he still wanted me to and he told me he would never want me to have to sing at his funeral but either I or Hank himself will sing it when he dies.
Ginny, maybe I will see you one day, I hope.
This is by far the best version of this song . I've listened to Hank since I was 10 years old . And he is without a doubt the greatest Country Music star of all time.
This song has been played when my grandparents and parents have passed away and it's on my play list when I pass away .
R.I.P. Hank .
Your still the brightest star that Country music has ever had.
A great singer and song writer. None better.
When I turn 17 I'm gonna try to fill his shoes and that's a promise
I would like this played at my funeral if I go before Jean,
Ole Hank has found peace at last. He shared all he had with us in his songs.
this is how i felt and still do feel about my first
I would like to put this on Facebook.
This song reminds me of my parents. My dad left us first. My mother left us four short years later.
HANK DEAD AT 29 GOING ON 89 . HE DID SO MUCH IN JUST A FEW YEARS . SUCH A BRILLANT MIND . THIS SONG WAS PLAYED AT MY WIFES FUNERAL. SHE WAS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN. GOD CALLED HER AWAY HER TIME HAD COME AND LEFT ME TO REMAIN TO WALK THE ROAD ALONE. THERES TWO HEARTS BURIED IN THAT 4X6 SPACE. I LOVED HER SO MUCH . SHES GONE AND STILL HERE .GOD SAID YOU TWO SHALL BE ONE FLESH. THEN WHY DOES ONE REMAIN? WHY CANT TWO GO TOGETHER IF THEY ARE ONE. MAYBE THATS WHY IT HURTS SO MUCH. HALF OF YOU HAS DIED..I MISS YOU MY DARLING I STILL LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART..R.I.P. AND YOU TOO HANK.
I'm sorry for your loss. This song has been played at my grandparents and parents funerals , and when it's my time to go Hank will sing me back home to . This is my favorite of the Luke the drifter songs . I've heard this song thousands of times and it still brings tears to my eyes .
If only everyone could have the kind of love you and your Darling shared. Thinking of the both of you and thank you for sharing your love story. Blessings....
Lost my son in 2003, my wife in 2014, our dog in 2017, but I'll see them all someday! Until then I'll do my best.
I ALSO AM SORRY ABOUT YOUR WIFE FREDDIE, I LIKE THIS SHARING OF YOU AND YOUR WIFE /THANKS FOR SHARING IT.
THE KING OF REAL SPIRUTUALNLIFE ,,,,
"And memory is one gift of God that death does not destroy."
Amen!
"Fear not them who can kill the flesh and NOT the soul; rather fear HIM who can kill the soul and the flesh in hell".
Sadly, MOST who will ever have lived in the flesh WILL; not have "eternal" life. But for those few who believed IN Jesus; will NEVER die.
Praise His Holy Name.
Hank gave his heart by singing the old country church and beyond the sunset and much more never forget this man who gave us so much in his music
my dad, aunts, and uncle sang this at my grandpa's funeral. 6 years ago next week. I ended up liking this song a lot but it makes me a little sad to hear it still.
I don't know who's version I like best of this song Hank's ( I think) or maybe the great late Red Sovine's both are wonderful
thanks im glad you enjoyed it. he was a great singer.
Thank you. Hank's best was on his Luke the Drifter album. Used to have it once upon a time. Wish I still did. God bless you, Hank +
+Suzy Que Yeah, I was thinking this sounded like a Luke the Drifter song.
@HML367 yes. Awesome music! Man was before his time, no doubt about it.
i love this song
+sybil gallant Me too.
Hank was 29 y.o., and an in pain back injured singer/writer, he tried Opium for pain/escape and became a total addict at the end of life. The stories of his sad plight was tragedy. But his talent is no second hands, he would lie in the back of a car and write a hit like Cold Cold Heart, You Win Again, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, or Men With Broken Hearts, he never had a need to steal, or hate. Of all men's criticisms I ever heart of Hank; never were these included. Racism never! His being able to see into the troubles and pains of others was perhaps Hank greatest Curse. I know for 70 years of my life this man's 125 some songs covered just about every human trial, condition, or prejudice. If you find racism in his "The Funeral", my sorrow for your stone heart is wasted. This young poet, to whom God must have spoken sometime. In some Earthly pains it was he destroyed himself. But,I know of only his ex-wife and son that might have some claims, he did some harm.
+bushongh I am a lot like this too... how I lived to be 21, is Gods miracle.. I am 40 now!! How, I will never know!! Only God knows!!
+bushongh Anyone who can see racism in "The Funeral" has no heart at all. Listen again. Nothing but compassion, and, wisdom, and tenderness. Too many people see racism in everything these days..
+bushongh he had Spina Bifitta sp? and how he must have suffered, no wonder he needed pain relief.
what harm do you mean
This is so beautiful, and so true as well........thought you would like it, love Barbara
My goodness, this is one of my mothers favorite songs. When I think about this, sometimes, in my mind's ear, I can hear her humming and singing in that off-key I remember so well. Thanks to the uploader.
Titus !:2; Isa. 45:18, Isa. 55:11; Ps. 37:9,10,11,18,29; 2 Peter 3:13
Rev. 5:9,10; Rev. 7:4 and Rev 14:3
THIRD TRY TO COMMENT.....I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE THIS AWESOME SONG T OLISTEN TOO, THIS a.M FROM MY DEAR COUSIN JOE ADAMS....THIS BROUGHT MANY TEARS...ALSO HAPPY MEMORIES...OF WAY BACK WHEN,,IN ALABAME....GOOD SONG BY THE BEST OLD...COUNTRY SINGER......Amen..xx
One of my relatives sang this song today at my grandmother's memorial service, such a beautiful song, a fitting tribute to one of the best grandmas there ever was.
Many copies, but only Hank could give it the depth that made this song the treasure it is..
Red Foley did it great too IMO Cheers,Keith
願這首詩歌能為所有Dr.Dick的親友帶來安慰. 銘傳
greatly grim
OMG thank you Robert Nicholas I heard this song 50 odd years ago and these words stuck in my mind , I wonder if anyone on here has the original I would love to hear it again , well at leased I know now I was not imagining it Thanks
Brenda, the original recording in 1947 was done by Chickie Williams. No relation to Hank. So many others have covered it, I doubt I have heard them all. No one has ruined it yet. It's one I definitely want at my funeral.
I thought this song had these words in it "my mother and my father were in love for 50 years, so when dad died I wondered why my mother shed no tears instead she went outside each night and looked up at the stars" can anyone help I have been searching for years
you are right they were in the original versiom
@grovestores189 Remember the version well it had to be the Tex Ritter Version, last time I heard it was on a 12' LP Extended play. Checked on UTube it is here as so.
Hank is in both the Country and Rock -HALL of Fame. Its racist to call him racist .He did NOT have to share the influence that Tea - Tot had on him esp.1940s & 50s south. He wasnt bragging about this , rather acknowldging his love for the blues ,also his mentor.
Defintely 1 of my favorites.
Moral stories/songs that Hank sung as Luke-the=Drifter. This was a great album last made in 1962. Still around on cassette in 2000.
I still miss you Hank. Miss your moanin' the blues.
croonin' the blues b better?
so beautiful song.
To everyone who has lost someone...
We played this at my Grandma and Grandpas funerals and I have told my children and my husband that I want it played at mine when the time comes. I can not listent to this without shedding many tears.
I'm not really certain where all these hateful comments come from honestly I am a bit disappointed that the messages in hanks music are lost due to hate or pride "have you listened to "tramp on the street"? just saying your sorry at the bar aint gonna cut it, oh you'll have a broken heart on that day when you face heavenly father why force him to punish you? no dad I know wants to have to get after them kids!
My great grandpa sang this at my great grandma's funeral service. He told me that when his time comes he wants me to sing this at his funeral. <3
@noreexic
Were you born a moron or is this something you developed on your own? You talk out your ass because your lying mouth knows better. Sounds like if there is a racist here, it is you.
Oh crap. It's been so many years since I heard this song that I remembered the tune but not the words -- until I heard "Should you go first ...." and they came flooding back to me ... along with the tears.
My Dad died last June, leaving my Mom (and the rest of us) behind. They'd been married over 65 years.
Excuse me, I have to go find some tissues, LOTS of tissues.
Its a beautiful song. My husband died over 20 years ago and it still touches me, and I love it.
@amberl519 hi... my grandfather just passed away on the 31st of October. We also played this for his song at his wake. And i know that its going make me think of him every single time I hear it. This is a very beautiful song.
Fantastic
memory is one gift from god that death cannot destroy. that really speaks to me, love ya hank
the love of my life was my grandmother. she was always there for me, each step i took, and i know that she is waiting for me 'beyond the sunset'. thank you so much for putting this on here.
Hank was my grandpa's idol and this song was one he requested be played at his funeral. Still makes me tear up every time I hear it.
THERE IS NO AUDIO FOR THIS SONG,EXPLAIN WHY
THERE IS NO AUDIO FOR THIS SONG
I am seventy years old and just a step away from leaving this old world, But If my wife of fifty years would go first I don't know what I would do with out her. She is still my sweet heart and always will be!
God is so good to give us someone to love and be with all of our life, waiting just beyond the sunset with love. Carl Pope
My Mom loved this song we played it at her funeral.
AFTER MY PARENTS DIVORCED THIS REMAINED HER FAVORITE SONG UNTIL HER DEATH IN 2007. I KNOW FOR THE FIRST
this is a traditional gosple song done exceedingly well here by the man
great song but its not by him its his arangement of the hymn. u prolly know that though.
this is without a doubt one of the best songs what Hank have sung.
Hank Williams created most of his songs by experience in his life or what he really felt or was like inside. He truly told his heart in his songs and many of them still are listened my all today. I wish all to share with friends and ask them to help live the King of Country's legacy.(Hiram King Williams will be in my heart longer than life will be with me, God bless you Hank.)
@midougch23 haha my bad, i stupidly saw the song title nd thought of pat boone
@noreexic Up to the present? He died in 1953 at the ripe old age of 29. How is he making racist and homophobic remarks in the present?
@midougch23 if there was no little richard there would have been no pat boone, and yes he has been noted for not only racist remarks but homophobic ones aswell right up to the present
@noreexic You are VERY ill-informed, to say the least. The VAST MAJORITY of the songs Hank Williams performed were of his own creation. As common as it was in his day, and him being from the rural south, I don't doubt he was racist. But a song thief? I don't think so. I think YOU should be banned from youtube.
@noreexic poeple such as yourself are what plague the world today...
This man was nothing more than a racist who took songs written and perfromed by a minority knowing they wouldnt get airplay and then sanatized them inot his fundamental christian ideologies tht plague the world today
A man really close to me passed away about a week ago. This was a his favorite song. He was a true farmer, kind hearted... He was my best friend... at 80. As for me, I'm only 15. I miss him more than anything. This song was playing at his service. The last time I saw him... he was humming along to this tune. It was painful to watch. But, I know he's happier now. I can't stop crying. <3
Dear Hank I can t listen to this without a tear in my eye
Many followed you, no one surpassed you
...no one does a more touching version as Jimmy Rogers..(pop singer)
Elton Britt did a very fine version of this song too...
JUST A GREAT SONG FROM THE MASTER OF COUNTRY MUSIC THOMAS HAVERSTOCK
wado alan for posting and thank you hank for singing only the great hank williams
sung this one wright, my opinion
@fftl1827 I'm 53 yrs old. I once heard Dion in an interview on Fresh Air, and he grew up among other Italian descent families in NYC, and was also the only person he knew who listened to Hank. When he was in his early teens he could perform about 75 songs by Hank. He sang one on the show, and I've never heard anyone do a Hank song so well.
@404Crystal
if u dont mind me ask how old r u? im only 18 but i grew up with it bc my dad grew up with and yea its just passed down my dad is about 45 or 44 but its just this is a really interesting comment u made not sure why?
its hank and if you dont like hank you can kiss my ass
Nobody ever could put so much feeling into a song like Hank Williams.
The spoken part of this song by Hank is real poetry.
So many have forgotten the one and only Hank Williams..........so many have moved away from real country music and hymns........
When I was a kid I bought this album from the bargain bin at Woolworth's for $0.25 after seeing the movie, "Your Cheatin' Heart." I wore this album out. The rest of my family thought I was nuts because I needed a Hank Williams fix every day from about age 7 until 10.
This is golden...
they may not have made much money but they touched many hearts including mine .
thank you for posting Alan! I have the same album you have and love this song.I got it back in the 70's and it only coasted me 2.99,,best money I ever spent. Thanks again!
I've been there too,but my grandma went first.just try to be there for her dear,God bless you.
nobody butnobody can sing a song like hank
thank you for the old songs
The greatest of the great!
THIS IS A HEARTWARMING SOND INDEED !
