Williams, Hank - Beneath A Cold Gray Tomb Of Stone Lyrics

Passing by a lonesome graveyard
Everything I love is gone
Weeping as they lay my darling
'Neath a cold gray tomb of stone

In this world I'm left to wander
With no one to call my own
While my precious darling's sleeping
'Neath a cold gray tomb of stone

Out there in that lonesome graveyard
She is sleeping all alone
And I buried my heart with her
Neath a cold gray tomb of stone

Skies above are dark and stormy
All the sunshine, all is gone
For the while my love is sleeping
'Neath a cold gray tomb of stone

My heart is dead and yet i'm living
Traveling through this world alone
I wish that I was with my darling
'Neath a cold gray tomb of stone

@pharmfarm59538 I don't think he ever sang a song when he wasn't troubled. No one could hurt like Hank.

    L.... ....

Actually he had some happy ones. He was either crazy happy, like in Jambalaya, or totally down. He might have been Bi-polar, what they used to call manic depressive. They just did not know what to do about it back then. So, a lot of people just self medicated, got drunk and stoned. Or just toughed it out to the bitter end, with no help at all, like my grandfather..Pappy!

Happy kind of sadness, lol? It runs in the family for some. The fact that he talked about it helped (someone).

  12. H.... P....

HE SURE COULD TELL A STORY IN A SONG.

  13. A.... P....

Thank you for posting this! The pops and crackles of the vinyl...reminds me of when I was young. Beautiful!

  14. T.... W....

This is my all time favorite Hank song. Followed by I heard that lonesome whistle blow a close second and The Log Train 3rd.

  15. T.... W....

This is THE song. I pop a few norcos, throw in a fat lipper get comfortably numb hang my fuckin head and reminisce about past loves gone by. Can't explain how much this song resonates in my soul. Rest In Peace Brother.

  16. H.... ....

@pharmfarm59538 he's just telling a sad story of lost love..

  17. d.... ....

I had never heard this one...thanks for posting...nothing better than just Hank and a guitar (though a little steel does flavor well)

  18. H.... P....

@Vegas01973 I SURE AGREE WITH YOU.

I've been listening a lot to Hank III and Hank Sr. in the last few days. What the F was I missing. I still love metal, but damn I'm going to borrow some of my dad's CDs of old albums (he's loved country since he was a kid, grew up in western Maryland near WV). This is pure, from the heart music. Not a lot of fancy technical musicianship but soulful singing. :)

    c.... ....

There is nothing more dark and brutal than this. This was metal before metal was metal. Not even Electric Wizard.

  20. R.... C....

This junk they call "Country" nowadays is CRAP! This is REAL Country! Thanks Hank! RIP

    r.... ....

ray8up That woman is his first wife Audrey.

    r.... ....

One of the greatest song ever! And you don't know who that woman was? Lol ..Welcome aboard the pain train .

  23. V.... ....

This is exactly why I don't listen to modern radio. Nobody can touch this guy. He will always be the master. Thanks for sharing!

  24. H.... H....

Hank 3 very nearly makes this song his own, but there's no beating the poigniancy of the original. Hank Williams will never die!

    H.... H....

It's hard to relate to your grandfather when he died before you were born. Young people will always have a hard time relating to their elders, but don't think they won't go through the same, lol.
