This is such a great song! I'm completely obsessed right now.

All the scenes with him are in a home with pine trees. the scenes of her alone are all of her at the beach except for a short scene of her alone in the house they lived in together.. I think he eventually died from his alcoholism and she is spending time away to recover emotionally. She mourns his touch as she strokes her own cheek, twirling alone on the beach as she remembers dancing with him. Eventually she accepts that its over, he's gone and she gives herself naked to the ocean to wipe her soul clean. but Im probably projecting.

If it's cold in the water, yes you are better for it. You can try to learn from "mother" aka others experiences but the bottom line is you don't know what you're made of or just how you will react in a specific situation. Another note to touch on with the mother line, is to remember those who are older and wiser or our teachers "mother" has jumped off likened sinking ships so the cold water you tread you may be treading alone but you're never alone in life's experiences just sometimes these experiences have to be taught first hand

Also brings to question the opening line, no not wasting time, although you may feel silly knowing that the inevitable " tide" is a comin! However she sings "always here and now" and I interpret that meaning to be living in the moment. The most sought-after and sometimes hopelessly unattainable way to live. But that's contradictory if you take into account her perception of the tide coming, in other words the beginning of the end. A direct contradiction of living in the moment.
