Wilco - Secrets Of The Sea Lyrics

Who can guess the secret of the sea?
Who can guess the secret of the sea?
If you can guess the secret of my love for you
Then we both could know the secret of the sea

Tell me could you ever tell the secret of the sea?
These high rolling waves along the shore
The footprints of the lovers that come here to love
By the tides washed away forever more

Who can guess the secret of the sea?
Who can guess the secret of the sea?
If you can guess the secret of my love for you
Then we both could know the secret of the sea

You claim to know the secret of a kiss and a hug
The secret of the grass and of the trees
If you can tell the secret of a warm friend's hand
Then we all would feel the secrets of the sea

Who can guess the secret of the sea?
Who can guess the secret of the sea?
If you can guess the secret of my love for you
Then we both could know the secret of the sea
We both could know the secret of the sea

Wilco is one of the most under-rated bands in recent memory. They're simply amazing.

First of all, using that kind of tone to another music lover is unnecessary. Respect other opinions. I would also like to say that you cannot really compare Billy Bragg to Wilco. Wilco is a band. They experiment with so many genres, it’s hard to label them as “alternative”, “rock” etc. Billy Bragg is a solo artist. Sure, he has had collaborated with a few artist over the years, one of which is Wilco. Billy Bragg chose to collaborate with Wilco because he likes, guess who, Wilco. Billy Bragg was also inspired by the same people Wilco was, making their music somewhat similar. Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, The Beatles, Peet Seeger, etc. Also, Jeff Tweedy started Wilco. Jay Bennett was just another member. If Wilco was led by Jay, then Yankee Hotel Foxtrot would’ve been mixed and mastered completely differently. Would you rather have amazing avant-garde artist Jim O’Rourke mix YHF or Jay Bennett? You choose. We already have an original Jay Bennett mix of Im Trying To Break Your Heart by Jay Bennett, it’s not that great. Of course, I mean no disrepute to the fallen Jay Bennett, RIP Jay. I just mean to say that, in my opinion, Jeff Tweedy is better musically than Jay Bennett. I mean, he played the majority of the instruments on Sukirae, made by Tweedy, his side project, which takes a whole lotta skill. Also, Jeff has a wider range of songs, and has made most of the music for Wilco, the band just carries it out. Not to say that the band has no input, but Jeff really drives Wilco. In the end, it really comes down to opinion. Whether Bragg or Wilco, Jeff or Jay, we all love music. God bless friend.

Sorry for that last response. I thought you were saying Jay Bennet rather than Jay Farrar. I would still say that Jeff is better for the same arguments.

@standenup I always loved this song

Billy Bragg has that look on his face that says, "I'm only here because the record company made me." Although, he almost cracks a smile at the 1:30 mark. BTW, the song is called "Secret" of the Sea. The sea only has one secret, not multiple secrets.

Billy Bragg looks like he is over it. He's probably mad that none of his songs on the Mermaid sessions were nearly as good as the Wilco ones. Btw sweet jacket Jay's got on

    b.... j....

He also has a sweet double necked guitar. I would agree that Wilco is much better than braggs stuff, in my opinion

In my opinion bragg's songs on mermaid avenue are better. It all depends on who you listened to the albums for, I am a billy bragg fan so I listened for him and therefore preferred his tracks on the albums. Just a matter of opinion
