Wilco - Impossible Germany Lyrics
Impossible Germany
Unlikely Japan
Wherever you go
Wherever you land
I'll do what I can
Impossible Germany
Unlikely Japan
The fundamental problem
We all need to face
This is important
But I know you're not listening
Oh I know you're not listening
If this was still new to me
I wouldn't understand
Impossible Germany
Unlikely Japan
But this is what love is for
To be out of place
Gorgeous and alone
Face to face
With no larger problems
That need to be erased
Nothing more important than to know
Someone's listening
Now I know
You'll be listening

Wilco Impossible Germany Comments
I'm getting ready to put in my will that I want this song played at my funeral. Ah, yes there it is. I can die happy now.
Wasn’t ready for that guitar solo! It surpasses You Are My Face
soft in my mind
This gives me weird-ass emotions because of a fuckin cotton candy pink MP3 player my mom gave me a billion years ago. Haven’t actually listened to it since then.
Update: the guitar solo is literally causing me to sob like a damn baby right now thank you very epic I will never revisit anything I listened to at a young age ever again
One of the greatest songs of all time bar none.
A Completely insufferable song. I understand this is one of the best songs of the best bands of the last 10 years ?
just be quiet
Just by reading that and looking at your profile pic I can gather enough evidence to conclude you're a dick
Nowhere near as insufferable as your comment, Mr. Phillips.
The thing about Germany AND Japan is their ability to involve poop and pee in everything including their national flags . Japan's is a period blood dot . Germany's is Black stripe for pooh stain , red stripe for period stain , yellow for pee ( obv. ) ...Then don't tell me I'm sick . THEY did it . I just noticed it .
Beautiful Wilco´s song!
I saw them live a couple of months ago and just when Nels Cline fantastic solo ended the whole room just went crazy, clapping and screaming for a real 30 seconds.
Jimi Hendrix shit.
That hardly never happens nowadays
maybe the best song ever..
I had never listened to Wilco until tonight. I was watching them playing live on youtube and they did this song...so, of course I had to find the studio recording. Amazing. I will have to catch them next go around because they finished up a show about 3 hours ago in Atlanta...I could not go as I am on-call. But I will see them when they come through Atlanta next! Outstanding band!
certainly the best song I've heard in a decade.
is there a better guitar solo?
Jesus. 10 years ago. Damn.. .
So fuckin good
This is the sound of greatness.
Wow, so Amazing Song, like a river flow quiet then run to my freedom.....
There’s definately an Eagles derived guitar riff in that solo. Witchy woman
RIP NEIL!!
*i discovered this band listening cold girl fever by the national*
sounds like john lennon to me
Nels is unbelievably good.
Agreed, one of my favorite guitar solos of all time, all about the ethos
Nice tune for sure. Best of the decade though? That's a steep claim. Anyway, hard to say what's best.
My heart. This is art.
Please research the flat Earth!
Still is jefe
addicted to solo
Wow. I cannot stop playing this. I have been playing Tedeschi Trucks Band's 'Midnight in Harlem' over and over again.......now this one is on the top of my list. Just beautiful. Do I hear a hint of John Lennon in his voice?
Nels Cline plays so beautifully on this song.
This album came out right before my father died and as I was completing addiction treatment. It is for me the soundtrack of that sadness and the promise of a life redeemed.
@Michele C-F Wow, the same happened to me three years ago, hope you are getting stronger and wiser man, cheers!
Alan Roehlich Sorry for your los. Hopefully your journey thru life is as smooth as can be. Keep your eye on the prize.....Your sobriety!
Alan, sending you good vibrations. Stay strong my friend. It's worth it! You can make it!
God bless you my brother.
Idk the solo sounds kinda like Marty McFly at the dance. Started out pretty dicey like he's never played before, or his disappearing hand simply couldn't hit the strings correctly... But halfway through, George punches Bif out and that's all she wrote. McFly shreds the solo
I love this song .... thank you
The singer sounds like Daniel Lanois-the producer of Joshua tree U2.
I heard this on the radio the other day and was entranced by the tasty guitar solo and the duet between guitarists a the end. Minimalist to start - tasty - then building the duet. Love it.
I'll Always Love Wilco
An elegant, beautiful guitar solo. Masterfully handled.
This song is so calm.
wilco is like pinkfloyds more modest and collect but underrated little brother
Nope.. that's flaming lips
That guitar though💔💔
when I hear this song, I think of taking a long walk, on a starry night, during the fall in New England, with the smell of burning leaves in the air.
Was almost late to work today watching the HBO Mavis (Mavis Staples) documentary. Here's this Jeff Tweedy of Wilco having major impact in reviving her career. I am a classic rock fan and while I'd heard of Wilco, I was unsure that I'd heard any of their music (another era!). Petty vocals/Santana "Abraxas" guitar feel. This song is beautiful. I'm a new fan in 2019. #letthewilcojourneybegin
So beautiful.
Brings back such happy memories. Love this album!
This is actually moving, pause the video and look...
Great live. I wish someone had a version
I have so many good memories of the past tied to this song and seeing it in concert as well......i'm such an old piece of shit now.
Weak lyrically. I'm disappointed this band hasn't progressed more having such potential.
The most emotional guitar solo at 2:48...Nels kills this...I am brought to jubilation....tears....completely felt...
Here comes the melancholy...
Beautiful shit. 💌🤸🏻♀️👍
These guitar licks are straight from Television Marquee Moon... I thought Tom Verlaine was a guest guitarist... trying to figure out what mode he's in, I don't think he's playing straight pentatonics.
damn i love me some wilco. real real good stuff. nels is retarded for this song ha ha.
Riff celestial!!!!. Cancion increible!.
If you really want to thank someone for the beauty of this song thanks Nels Cline, the guitarist of wilco. Since Wilco is not active nowadays, he is into his own ventures. I guess he has a new band or something. He seamlessly flaunts his Jazzmaster and plays some sweet jazz.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful song
A showcase for Nels. He takes full advantage. Fantastic song. Fantastic Guitar. Wilco 🎸 !
Sounds like a Jon Lennon song.
I can hear Television all over the place with that solo at the end.
I remember listening to this song as I was going through AIT in The Army. Fort Sill, OK in 2007. Definitely brings back memories.
my boyfriend sent me the link to this song and wow it makes me so incredibly happy to hear the songs that make him the happiest! this is like really really good
Geez u r too sweet, do u have a sis?
Nice guitar solo.. is.. really different.. rare.. fits good, like a lot the first part
Wilco's music is magical!
I just want to point out the fact that this might be the greatest recorded song of all time yet has no business being so proclaimed: no chorus, it's 6 minutes long, half of it is a guitar solo, there's a 3-guitar arrangement that would make Gil Evans pissy with envy, it was probably recorded on tape, the drums are perfect, and it's not an auto tuned song about Taylor Swift's last boyfriend. Wilco may be the greatest thing since God invented cheese (and puppies).
Every time this song's epic guitar solo is heard, a Nazi shits himself (with fear).
The guitar solo is as good as anything ever done. As good as Marque moon by television.
Carlos Julián me trajo hasta aqui
jesus this guitar solo
Dhamn Nels is just going at it
I get the feels when I hear this song. I can listen to it on repeat. Awesome guitar thru the wrong song, to say the least the solo. Omg!!! Puts The Eagles to shame.
fuckin wilco!!!
The soundtrack of all my travels
I feel something every time I hear this song. I could listen to it on repeat.
Great Song. Not sure if I understand the lyrics though. Germany is definitly the place you want to land if you rock.
Wow this is the best....can't stop listening to it. The solo kills me everytime. Love you Arthur baby are you listening. Best of all time solos. Wow
Trying to figure out who the 106 benighted dolts are, that gave this a thumbs down
Perfect song
This was the first song ever listened to while tripping on shrooms and boy, did I make the right choice.
Read: Wherever you fall on Sky Blue Sky, Wilco’s abrupt revert into wholesomeness, it’s tough not to wonder if the album might have been completely scrapped if not for “Impossible Germany”, the album’s and Wilco 3.0’s proof of concept. For many, Sky Blue Sky’s soft-edged DNA that came along with the full-time addition of two chops-specialists — most visibly, lead guitarist Nels Cline — fell somewhat flat. “Impossible Germany”, though, showed that this new system could work, that it was at least capable of producing excellence, if not exactly fertile ground for it. And it did that by doubling down on the guitar solo, of all things, last heard being used to the opposite effect one album prior on “At Least That’s What You Said” and “Spiders (Kidsmoke)”.
I hear three guitars. Who is guitarist who starts the long lead?
War is a hoax. Impossible Germany unlikely Japan. Real humans don't kill. Great song too. Guitar solo supreme.
Andy from Pro Guitar Shop sent me here
as much as i like this song its a copy of daft punks digital song. anyone?
WTF are you talking about? What song?
Any thoughts on the meaning of the lyrics?
Guitar heaven
Forever classic
It does remind me of jamming in Bryant's Park in the late sixties.
the space around the bird is moving
I like that mate...I see it too
Yeah, the whole thing is just creepy. Not the song though, so good.
Hope you’re doing well.
I think it's just the pixels of the still photograph. I notice that they distort when they are resized or screen saved when you post a duped still photograph or meme. So adding the fact here that the pic is "framed" over and over, specs are going to move around just like the old films.
There's a bird? What bird?
2:50 Guitar is a songbird
Guitar solo is the best Fender Jazzmaster moment!
Takes me back to the 1970's. It's like Carlos Santana and Duane Allman sat together and said "ok, now I'll show you what I know"
Amazing performance all around.
This is giving me the air I need to breath these days...
The best band in recent times !!! <3 wilco !!!!
This is an epic song , building up to nels brilliance , a really classy song , unbelieveable musicianship , the lyrics remind me of something thats just slowly winding down while the music lifts up and up , until the inevitable end , my favourite song .
I agree ha ha, greatest song ever written.
Yeahhh bravo Wilco <3 Jeff Tweedy <3
beauttiful song thank you
I agree... with Kevinbelmont55.... I absolutely love this song.. and, no matter what I'm doing... or how many times I've heard it.. I stop at 3 minutes when Nels Cline and the guitar solo begin.. It's just hauntingly beautiful... Every time..
