Who, The - The Acid Queen Lyrics

[Gypsy:]

If your child ain't all he should be now
This girl will put him right.
I'll show him what he could be now
Just give me one night.
I'm the Gypsy - the acid Queen.
Pay before we start.
I'm the Gypsy - The acid queen.
I'll tear your soul apart.

Give us a room and close the door
Leave us for a while.
Your boy won't be a boy no more
Young, but not a child.
I'm the Gypsy - the acid queen.
Pay before we start.
I'm the Gypsy the acid queen.
I'll tear your soul apart.

Gather your wits and hold on fast,
Your mind must learn to roam.
Just as the Gypsy Queen must do
You're gonna hit the road.

My work is done now look at him
He's never been more alive.
His head it shakes his fingers clutch.
Watch his body writhe
I'm the Gypsy - the acid queen.
Pay before we start.
I'm the Gypsy - I'm guaranteed.
To break your little heart.

  4. B.... L....

I'm so happy that I grew up when we had ROCK....oh yea, my grandma bought me Who's Next for Christmas...nothing was the same after. Saw Tommy on stage... splendiferous!!

    B.... L....

Now I still think rock music is bounds better than anything being put out nowadays, but hey musics gotta change, and I would rather just have rock stay steadily great for the rest of time than have it with a steady decline as every technique is overused. Modern music is also experimenting with some new instruments so I can appreciate it, but that doesn't mean I think it is good.

Still waiting for when we get another rock band as good as The Who, Oasis came close but they burned out to soon to be able to do something revolutionary.

    B.... L....

@Marshallemmet I hear ya...I remember my dad saying rock was noise...change is good but everyone has their jam.

  5. s.... s....

It's just one amazing song right after the next on this incredible album !!! Almost a perfect Disc that introduces the world to the sound that would be 70's Rock !! "Tommy" has too many amazing songs, way technical musicianship, ahead of its time lyrics, etc,.. this album is a dream that wakes you up from your reality that you've been had !!!

  6. j.... d....

Is that pete or roger singing?

    j.... d....

    Not Roger.

    j.... d....

    Peter!!

  7. J.... ....

The who,...!!! A large collection of masterpiece rock majesty SONGS,..!!! They RULE,...!!!!

  16. D.... Y....

I'd like to chew up some mushrooms again ~

  17. J.... ....

3:03 Keith Moon screaming in the background (while he plays the fill)

    J.... ....

how can you ascertain that it's Moon??

    J.... ....

There's a video of him in the studio recording this song and screaming just like that.

    J.... ....

Actually it might have been a different track. But he screams like that during tom tom fills

  18. d.... j....

my work is done, not look at him, he's never been more alive.

  19. M.... ....

Tina has a twist on the lyrics. They are just a little different. Listen closely.

  20. f.... ....

No one had a feel comparable to petes

  21. C.... R....

I'll be honest, some aspects of the story in this album make me uncomfortable (cough *cousin Kevin and Uncle Ernie* cough). But this song, Pinball Wizard and Tommy Can You Hear Me? don't bother me as much.

    C.... R....

That's because its a metaphor for everything everyman,..life,..

    C.... R....

Well a good part of the album is how Tommy is abused for being deaf dumb and blind.

  22. t.... ....

    Sweet thanks

  23. K.... K....

I never noticed Keith's scream around 3:03 in the background and god knows Tommy is my whole childhood and life. Nos I'm older I notice more details.

  24. B.... N....

    Fucking brilliant

  25. B.... N....

I love Elton John but NO ONE does Pinball Wizard as good as The Who. Elton sings it too slow.

  26. S.... M....

Reminds me of the 13th Doctor Who http://www.konbini.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/4/files/2017/10/social--480x279.jpg

  27. M.... ....

Lite a candle and listen to this album in the dark.

  28. m.... ....

    F*** Tina Turner. PETE TOWNSHEND!

  29. J.... Q....

Back in the day when Rock 'had' to be amazing awesome !!! No other band could touch the greatness of the who !! You can hear rush, Queen, Styx, yes, Bowie, Ramones, Kiss, Foreigner, Elp, every band tried to copy this album ,..and only the WHO DID IT CORRECT AND PERFECTION !!!! TOMMY is a rare album where you have tons of songs and they are all 10 plus ,..out of 10 !! To think that this record was a double album,..2 discs way back in it's amazing time and glory ,..no Wonder it went to # 2 on the charts and has sold nearly 30 million copies world wide,..an album this great is a "Moment" in rock recording history ,.."Double album" that demonstrates solid musicianship, total meldoy, story, and influenced 1000 other bands to try to be this great !!!

  30. I.... Y....

Getting Tina Turner for this in the movie was such a good choice

    I.... Y....

    It was Aretha Franklin

  31. P.... G....

One of the most powerful Who songs ever. Townshend's vocals are perfect, as well as the musicianship. Forget the Tina Turner version.

    P.... G....

THE WHO will "always' be rock Gods; 500 years from now,..they will study the Who and how they changed the world; more so even than Zappa or ray davies,....

  32. M.... T....

I had this album. It was pristine. Not a scratch on it. Ventures, Rolling Stones. Ray Charles. I think my family through tnem out.

  33. P.... A....

    I prefer Tina singing this

    P.... A....

No way - this is THE version of this song.

    P.... A....

    I still prefer Tina haha

    P.... A....

OK - To each their own :)

  34. h.... c....

    Tina 😍

  35. L.... D....

    It is really cool.

  36. J.... t....

The album describes all of our lives ,... all of The bad that happened to us ,.. and our quest to be # 1 ,..like the THE WHO !!

  37. b.... ....

Pete was 23 years old when he wrote Tommy. Amazing! Most 23 year old people in 2018 are still asking their parents for more capacity in their iPhones.

When he got old and hit 25, he wrote Who's Next.

    b.... ....

    PETE; GENIUS !!

    b.... ....

I saw the Who twice ..amazing band...THUNDER ..and Pete is a wild guy often seems to be Pissed off on stage ..an ACT not sure..might be just how Pete is...

    b.... ....

    25 isn't old dumbass.

    b.... ....

    More capacity in their iPhones?

  38. S.... K....

2:00, I've always liked that little mistake with Pete's vocals, caught me off guard the first time I heard it. But I think it just makes the album more human with small mistakes.

  39. C.... S....

pure genious , pete townshend is the fuckin man, ahead of his time, and he and rodger daltrey are still doing it, pete still can slice a guitar as great as ever, rodger cant hit the high notes like when he did for so many years, but at 74 he can still get it going when the spirit moves him. theyre stil the best 4 dudes to ever play together, lost moons sound to early, but he was a comet, comes by once in a lifetime and burns out too soon, but he still left an indellible mark on this world, people in this life still talk about him.

    C.... S....

THE WHO created one of the greatest stories in rock here !! -- TOMMY is a rare album where you have tons of songs and they are all 10 plus ,..out of 10 !!

  40. z.... ....

The Acid Queen and Christmas are the best songs on this remarkable album!

    z.... ....

zepbenny What about Look in the mirror? There are SO many great songs,I can never pick one.

  41. k.... f....

No one compares to the oo'

  42. H.... 2....

Tina was the Best...Thanks The Who..

    H.... 2....

tINA WILL WORSHIP MR mOON for all eternity. May he manifest for me in my drumming instruction.

  43. k.... f....

Only rock gods dare to go rock where the oooo treads

  44. 7.... ....

The Who and Zappa battle for best lyrics ,.. Bowie is right there too ,..and the Kinks ,.. but ya gotta hand it to the genius of the Who ,... This album Tommy was a rare marvel in it's day ,..it told a true story of us all ,.... it seemed like a dream ,... yet it was somehow commercial and sold millions ,... HOW DID THE WHO DO THIS ???

    7.... ....

What psychodelicx were u on when u wrote this?

  45. 7.... ....

THE WHO are Rock Gods and every song is so good ,.... it's never fair to the other bands ,...

  46. J.... J....

Like this one a lot better than the Tina Turner version.

  47. J.... ....

    I love acid

  48. C.... H....

    Classic superb rock!

  49. M.... S....

Keith Moon is simply unreal in this one.....

  50. O.... ....

    Terrifying song. Love it.

  51. R.... ....

If they do remake of this movie, anyone else see Cara Delevingne as the Acid Queen?

    R.... ....

Um, you know Pete sang this, right?

  52. 7.... ....

The Who are eternal Rock Gods !!!

  53. R.... 1....

Is Pete Townsend singing this?...he sounds great!

    R.... 1....

No, Pete TOWNSHEND is singing this!

    R.... 1....

    Pete *"Townsend"* jajajaja

  54. D.... ....

Now I know where Chris Cornell got his vocal styling from.

  55. h.... ....

    Watch his body riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiise

  56. 7.... ....

This album took rock to a new level ,..lyrics as weird as anything by Zappa ,...but packaged to be both underground and pop somehow at the very same time - fucking weird shit here ! AMAZING !!

    7.... ....

Zappa is a whole nother beast. No sense in comparing. And stunningly, this was not underground in the 60s. In many ways things were much more open then.

  57. T.... L....

    Moon was a freaking God

    T.... L....

My most holy of Holies. Moon was /is the center of THE percussion universe*******

  58. m.... ....

The Who. SOOOOO much better than anything out there today. Hands down.

  59. R.... C....

One of the best off Tommy

  60. 7.... ....

Has anyone else noticed the discord where Pete plays an F chord on top of a G chord? Brilliant!

    7.... ....

    which part?

    7.... ....

This girl will teach him right

  61. L.... D....

Acid queen is a gypsy healer. As pete Townshend has some gypsy blood.

  62. b.... ....

tina turner was exellent, as the acid queen,
    so hot . wow .

  63. l.... m....

Et moi i am un putain de frenchie et vous n avez pas le monopole des who ni du reste musical alors pour le coup l union fait la force musicale ou allez vous taire...

  64. C.... D....

One of favorite songs by my favorite band from my favorite album of all time. Pete's spiritual yearnings expressed at their best with the band in full force behind him--Moon as his best. It's still electrifying. It's not Who's Next, no, it's Tommy.

  65. W.... W....

i cant shre it on facebook ???

    W.... W....

I have a question, how old sre?

  66. M.... D....

My mind was rearranged and it wasn't the same!

  67. C.... H....

its a great song but acid wasn't discovered to have physcidelic properies until 1943

    C.... H....

But when does the story happen according to the album?

    C.... H....

That would put "the boy" in his 20's as well as the vanguard of advent. -some guy with internet access aka: the entity formerly known as self

    C.... H....

Some random Douche bag It is was never meant to be historical in that "born in 1921, Tommy then grew up in the Depression, etc.". It was a loose story from the get go and has had different interpretations (i.e. the 1975 film had the father dying in WWII). Pete Townshend changed bits and pieces and at times claimed it was an allegory. In other words, don't be so bloody literal, it's a fuckin' rock opera.

    C.... H....

Tommy was born at the end of WW II when his father didn't return from a bombing of Germany. !944 or maybe even 1945. Tommy was probably 25 when he tried LSD, that was somewhere in late the sixties.

    C.... H....

On the album it was 1921. There’s even a song on the album called 1921 that’s about that. The same song was changed to 1951 for the movie to go with the after WWII time period.

  68. A.... P....

If you listen closely to this song, you'll hear just how good of a drummer Keith Moon really was.

    A.... P....

@Steve Haller Michael DeRocher of Heart could hold his own with those Titans and other big act drummers like Ian Paice of Deep Purple we're forces to contend with. Can't remember who was Bowie's drummer during the Ziggy Daze, impressive. One last big act drummer who was unfairly underrated was Roger Taylor of Queen. I saw him live with Queen in 1982 and the mutherfucker could hit. Loved this thread. A great drummer could control mayhem on stage and lead the band out of embarrassing after show journo inquiry!!!✌️

    A.... P....

@Sublime Music Channel I don't think it was Keith's drumming he had a issue with...

    A.... P....

@Damned Yankee That's not what he says. Go find the doc and watch him say it for yourself. It's why all subsequent Who drummers are INFINITELY more straightforward than Moonie, because Pete's idea was of a much more drab playing style for the band than Keith's. I mean, I love Kenny Jones in Faces, but with the Who he's nothing more than generic. Ditto Simon Phillips, a much more technically skilled player than Keith, but simply not an arresting presence like Moon was. Anyway, you don't have to "think what he might have meant" because he looks into the camera and says he never cared for Keith--AS A DRUMMER. Check it out for yourself.

    A.... P....

@Steve Haller I would include Stewart Copeland!

    A.... P....

Keith Moon was the best drummer of all the Rock Times .

  69. A.... G....

A GREAT SONG FROM A GREAT ALBUM

  70. M.... L....

  71. s.... ....

Patti LaBelle gave this song a life of it's own; best version ever.[and it's live.

  72. P.... B....

    Acid is the fucking best

    P.... B....

A 1999 UCLA study concluded that LSD had the least neuro-toxicity of all psychotropic (gets you high) compounds A beer causes more "brain damage" than tripping.

    P.... B....

You have to go out of your mind to come to your senses. -Leary

    P.... B....

Really? did you ever come back?

    P.... B....

Smoggyama < Check out Leary interviews from, at least, the 80s on. One can say he did too much but the fact is he became altered in a way that's difficult to bear the witness of.

    P.... B....

hehe got two hits that im saving for next weekend ;)

  73. S.... -....

    Best drugs song ever :-)

    S.... -....

J'en prends une bonne dose quotidienne depuis 1966.... Accro à mort.

  74. p.... ....

apart from pinball wizard this is the best track on the album

    p.... ....

    +Robert Brock Our?

    p.... ....

Both groups are from England Rob....

    p.... ....

Old comment but I think Rob was making a simpsons reference....

    p.... ....

    @SDrew which episode

    p.... ....

There are too many awesome tracks on this one for me just to pick two

  75. R.... C....

The part at 2:09 seems rather empty to me.

    R.... C....

@***** way to complex for garage rock

    R.... C....

+Robert Colby-Witanek Its Pete Townsend taking the piss out of Jefferson Airplane.

    R.... C....

@valsopuseight it sounds like "Punk and the Godfather" without the edge

  76. 7.... ....

A Song cannot get much better than this ,.... The Who were so amazing ,..it was unfair to the rest ,...

  77. M.... K....

Did they? I wasn't aware of that. Quite the interesting bit of trivia there! Thanks for sharing. :D

  78. T.... T....

Don't forget both of Petes brothers also sang on the album

  79. M.... K....

It's an opera, dude. There are different characters singing, performed of course by the Who.

  80. w.... ....

Right. Tina Turner over this? You must be smoking crack. Have a talk with Cid, he and the Acid Queen will set you straight.

  81. p.... ....

beatlesfan831,wow,i could not have described pete's version better.

  82. s.... v....

    Peteeeee :)

  83. G.... ....

The Who has always been among my all time favorite bands; but Tina Turner owns this song now, with Pete and Roger's blessing.
Besides, a woman should sing this song anyway.

  84. O.... ....

Have fun with that, bro \m/

  85. B.... D....

My buddy and I are gonna drop acid and watch Tommy.

  86. L.... T....

The gypsy is the one that is talking, it's her "role" look at the lyrics

  87. f.... ....

I love this album and The Who, but hate how he has to call himself an acid queen(deff sounds a little queer) instead of just saying "shes the gypsy, the acid queen" idk

    f.... ....

It's spoken from the point of view of the gypsy, so that wouldn't make any sense.

    f.... ....

Seems like you are a little sensitive when it comes to sexuality, what could that mean?

  88. h.... ....

Damn, never noticed this til just now. Go to about 3:03 and listen close in the right channel at the foot of Pete's "..right". Hear the yell over the drum fill? Keith maybe?

  89. S.... D....

Roger Daltrey or Pete Townsend? Who would you rather?

  90. M.... ....

i saw petes younger bro play this in widsor with roger sickest show i have been too yet :)

  91. g.... ....

Still the scariest, most sinister version.

  92. D.... B....

@thegame3623 Neither, it's just part of the story.

  93. w.... ....

    0 people have... wait...

  94. P.... ....

    @Kevinf1125

Well, Tina is a Goddess... obviously.

  95. K.... B....

    @noodnic really

  96. M.... ....

    PERFECT of course!

  97. n.... b....

sheesh, i guess this is where i must revert attention back to this recording. the sound of the individual guitar at one point is truly gibson surf music.. either 335 or SG... i think it 335, just from posters i have seen of pete. but i remember from very expensive high class record players when the original album came out in 1969.

  98. B.... W....

I love reading people argue on the internet. It's like watching two people with Down syndrome play basketball.

  99. G.... M....

wow this arguement below is incredibly gay!! in a non gay arguement related post iam only getting into the who and this record is amazing!
