Who, The - New Song Lyrics

You need a new song
I'll set the words up so they tear right at your soul
Don't take me too long
But there's a danger that I'll plagiarize something old

My fingers kill me as I play my guitar
'Cause I've been chewing down at my nails
My hairline ain't exactly superstar
But there's one thing that never fails
This never fails

I write the same old song with a few new lines
And everybody wants to cheer it
I write the same old song you heard a good few times
Admit you really want to hear it

Whenever I see you
You always treat me like I'm some kind of perfect man
Just 'cause I please you
You explain, but you don't think I can understand

My head is spinning as I scrawl with my pen
'Cause I've been pouring vodka in my soul
Nothing really ever changes my friend
New lamps for old
New lamps for old

We sing the same old song, just like a vintage car
You can look but you won't ever drive it
We drink the same old wine from a brand new jar
We get hung over, but we always survive it

Turn on the radio
Love is proclaimed
Again and again and again
Join in and sing
Now, don't be ashamed
Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain
Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain
Let it rain
Let it rain

We hum the same old lines to a different crowd
And everybody wants to cheer it
We run on endless time to reach a higher cloud
But we never ever seem to get near it

We sing the same old song

Come on Roder & Pete! Give Zak full status as a member. He's the best thing to happen to The Who since the master passed away in '78. BTW. Fu%$*(ng GREAT SONG. Better than most of the tunes on "Who are you" Does remind me of "The Music Must Change" in '78.

    "All This Music Must Fade"

    (What's mine is mine
What's yours is yours, and what's mine is mine
What's yours is yours, and what's mine is mine
What's yours is yours, and what's mine is mine)

    I don't care
I know you're gonna hate this song
    And that's fair
    We never really got along
    It's not new, not diverse
It won't light up your parade
    It's just simple verse

    All this music will fade
Just like the edge of a blade
    All this music will fade
Just like the edge of a blade

    I'm long gone
And I ain't never coming back
    The white swan
I never really quite got black
I'm not blue, I'm not pink
    I'm just grey, I'm afraid
And it seems in a blink

    All this music will fade
    (All this music will fade)
Just like the edge of a blade
(Just like the edge of a blade)
    All this music will fade
    (All this music will fade)
Just like the edge of a blade
(Just like the edge of a blade)

What's yours is yours, and what's mine is mine
What's mine is yours, and what's yours is mine
What's mine is yours, and what's yours is mine
What's yours is yours, and what's mine is mine

    I don't mind
Other guys ripping off my song
    I'd be lying
If I said I never done no wrong
All this sound that we share
    Has already been played
And it hangs in the air

    All this music will fade
    (All this music will fade)
Just like the edge of a blade
(Just like the edge of a blade)
    All this music will fade
    (All this music will fade)
Just like the edge of a blade

    I don't care
I know you're gonna hate this song
    That's fair
'Cause we never really got along
    It's not new, not diverse
It won't light up your parade
    It's just simple verse

    All this music will fade
Just like the edge of a blade
    All this music will fade
Just like the edge of a blade
    All this music will fade

What's yours is yours, and what's mine is mine
What's mine is yours, and what's yours is mine
What's mine is yours, and what's yours is mine
    What's yours is yours

(Yours is yours, and what's mine is mine
And what's mine is mine, and what's mine is yours
    Who gives a fuck?)

  49. A.... ....

This sounds like it could have come out of the early 70's!

  50. A.... ....

I love this song more and more I hear it!

  51. B.... S....

This is almost good. Quite impressive for guys pushing 80

  52. T.... D....

I am thoroughly impressed with this album, as a fan of 25yrs. My brother said it best “...this album shouldn’t be as good as it is- but it is. Pete Townshend seems to still have a lot to say.”

  53. S.... V....

If You don't own The Who's "Who's Next", you aren't into R&R. Their best

  54. D.... P....

True Icon's in rock's Pantheon, never to be duplicated again.

  55. F.... M....

It's a great new album cant wait for them to come to Philly again or NJ

  56. M.... L....

"All this music must fade Part" sounds like Monkees "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sz-2jckjeHo

  57. A.... B....

It's funny - you can really hear all of the classic Townsend and Daltrey stuff - very beautiful - but, let's face it - all the Entwhistle and Moon stuff is painfully missing. I really like the song, but the void cannot be denied.

  58. e.... s....

THIS IS THE WHO THE BAND THAT NEVER LOST THE IDENTIFY

  59. J.... L....

Hey, all you kiddies with guitars and drums, wannabes out there who think you're rock stars because you have recording contracts and play to mindless audiences -- this is how it's really done. Not just the vocals and musicianship. It's the attitude and songwriting. The songwriting. The tunes. The aggression. These old men are kicking ass and taking names.
Yeah, "kicking ass and taking names," that could be a Who song. I can't believe they came up with this album the way they did. Rolling Stones are still viable but hey Mick and Keith -- can you come up with an album of originals this good next year? It would be nice.

  60. t.... s....

Man Pete still has it! Not quite as virile as they would have been with Ox and Moon (that would be a great band name) but this is some great listening. One thing I always loved about The Who is that the more you turn it up the better it sounds. Put this on the big speakers and crank it!

  61. E.... J....

    Sounds more like meatloaf

  62. M.... A....

Ok, its a joke, there Is the who, one of the creator of rock

  63. M.... A....

    sound like cheap trick

  64. n.... &....

    That's a real R&R!!

  65. R.... s....

Long live rock, I liked the Who

  66. C.... A....

Pete Townsend, August 1966: “I don’t mind Other guys dancing with my girl ...”
Pete Townsend, December 2019: “I don’t mind Other guys ripping off my song ...”

    C.... A....

That part put a smile on my face

  67. d.... d....

sounds alright but lyrics kinda cheesy

    d.... d....

They are from another era, they are awesome

  68. M.... U....

Rock and Roll não morreu!!! Vida longa ao The Who...

  69. L.... F....

Been smiling 😊😁 since I started listening. Yeah they're doing all the stuff they do, Huge stupid melodies, Petey chunga chunging, Roger sounds great as does Pete. Auto tune or not. Pretty durned cool at this stage. Has sort of same vibe for me like an updated Who By Numbers over large parts of the album. Miss Keith and John as always. The "orrible oo" forever!!! "We are the Mods.....We are the Mods!!!.....

  70. m.... ....

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️🎸

  71. I.... F....

Great song. It seems like travel to 70's without making a cover (as GretaVanFleet).

  72. J.... S....

Deu to the ellaborated backing voice, it remind me “Faces Dances” the best Who work in my opinion, but with a 60 energy touch. Simply amazing.

  73. M.... B....

    They still got It!!!

  74. J.... H....

its got that Familiar(the who) 70's feel, im fairly impressed!

  75. M.... M....

God Bless Townsend & Daltrey for keeping the flame alive! It keeps us all young at heart to hear older musicians still making quality music like this and refusing to let rude critics and age get in the way!

  76. E.... S....

Fade? Not soon enough. Retire and save your legacy... What little there is.

  77. p.... ....

This who fan is on board

  78. K.... M....

    Love The WHO!
    🤘Pete
    🤘Roger
    🙏Keith
    🙏John
    THE WHO FOREVER!
    GREAT SONG!!!

  79. N.... D....

Boring ...they passed it ...just embarrassing

  80. S.... K....

Ive never been a big Who fan but ugh this is a good album! 🥵 How is this music even possible in this sucking century? It's like completely classic rock even dough it wasnt made in the 60s or 70s and I barely ever heard that. So long Daltrey and Townsend, rock on! 🤘

  81. p.... ....

The Who number 1 on the US Charts!!!!!!!!! Fantastic album boys!

  82. K.... ....

Best track on the record. Followed by I don't wanna get wise, Ball n Chain, Detour, Rockin Rage, the others are snoozers.
Surprisingly overall I liked Roger Daltreys As Long As I Have You, better, probably cause Pete plays guitar a lot on it and Daltrey sings well too.

  83. R.... B....

Great song! Very “The Who” :) ...I always considered The Who to be maybe not quite “punk” but definitely the first pre-punk band that inspired Iggy Pop and Ramones possibly. They are punk to me.

  84. M.... M....

I just heard this today on Sirius, and I was wondering what album this old track was on. I figured I had found all of the Who's old lost gems. Pete and Roger, thanks for making a brand new "lost gem".

  85. D.... H....

It sounds a lot like Quadrophenia. Nice to listening...

  86. S.... R....

    I LIKE IT IM IN!

  87. L.... W....

Fucking about time they put this new album v.well 2 the who and everyone else who else had a hand in it big or small

  88. j.... ....

Pete, you wrote the words I might have, had I the inspiration still.
This song brought tears to my eyes, because it's beautiful, honest, and sounds like the great band that has inspired me throughout my entire life.
    Thank you.
Roger, words cannot express how great your performance is. Thank you, too.

  89. S.... A....

It’s a near PERFECT album. Only Pete , Simon and Nick Lowe can write true Rock songs with any “originality” anymore. It’s a true vanishing art.

  90. S.... T....

My eternal gratitude to these legends for getting me thru life

  91. d.... ....

I think Zak Starkey is a great compromise between Keith Moon, Kenney Jones, and his own inclinations.

  92. b.... f....

Obviously a leftover from "Who are you".

  93. P.... A....

So good.............!! And the rest of the album does not disappoint! A short while ago, I listened to all of it in one go.......just amazing....in some ways, a homage to the earlier briliance, but in many other ways, a compellingly creative tour de force...in short, it is a work of art ..... .overall, it already goes down as one of my favourite Who albums, right up there with My Generation, Who's Next, Quadrophenia and Tommy.....yes, it is that good, but remember we are talking about the Who.....there is no point in saying that one great Who album is better than another great Who album.....reader, I hope you keep on enjoying their creative genius as I have over the years, going back to the late 1980's in my case......

  94. E.... ....

Love this song! It sounds great! I've been a fan since 1980, love Pete and Roger!

  95. E.... B....

Amazing! exiting! all nice for me! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

  96. D.... S....

I loved The Who in their heyday but this isn’t it. Too bad.

  97. o.... g....

Amazingly still powerful, it's a shame that these icons have to write from a position of almost being apologetic because people in the business have cast them aside for being old and out of touch. I'm happy that they said who gives a fuck and did it anyway.. now that's rock n roll

  98. p.... ....

    Can Pete still sing?
