Who, The - Instant Party (Circles) Lyrics

Circles, my head is going round in circles
My mind is caught up in a whirlpool
Dragging me down

Time will tell if I'll take the homeward track
Dizziness will make my feet walk back
Walk right back to you

[chorus:]
Everything I do, I think of you
No matter how I try, I can't get by
These circles, leading me back to you

Round and around and around and around and around
and around and around and around and around

And round and round like a fool I go
Down and down in the pool I go
Dragging me down

[chorus]

There one thing could kill the pain of losing you
But it gets me so dizzy then I'm walking right back again
Back to you

Time will tell if these dreams are nearly fact
Don't know why I left, I'm coming back
Coming on back to you

All blacks in the ads..you tube is bullshit rascist cocksuckers

  2. T.... ....

a true LEAD DRUMMER.... amazing talent.... this is the MOD revolution anthem....

  3. K.... C....

I love this song. Totally forgotten Who gem. Can anyone tell me how many different versions have been variously released, as I've lost count.

  4. M.... C....

The Bass is awesome too, like the guitar, vocals, drums. Pete Townsend genius🙌

  5. G.... N....

    Keith Moon :3

  6. m.... d....

    Fucking ace

  7. A.... P....

    I love that french horn.

  8. D.... D....

Chaotic break two years ahead of it's time....

  9. B.... H....

I've always loved this song. Melodic and hard rocking, with one of the most vicious instrumental breaks on record at that time.

  10. T.... ....

    So mod it hurts

  11. B.... ....

    -party- -time-

  12. B.... I....

    Bringing the hotness.

  13. d.... ....

Moon's playing is a perfect mirror for the lyrics. The "circular" pattern fill (throughout), the descending fill (in a whirlpool), and the accenting of key vocals.

    d.... ....

Are you really this big of a douchebag??

  14. L.... ....

It sound like The Who but not. Its this the Fleur The Liz version ? This version is completely unknown to me. Its not the original one, nor the one included on the "Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy" album. Its also not the one included on the double CD version of the first album, released several years ago.

    L.... ....

This is the original Circles, written by Pete Townshend and recorded by The Who in 1965. Fleur de lis covered this song one year later.

  15. k.... ....

    That bass player though..

  16. E.... M....

"Circles" was produced by Shel Talmy, with whom The Who broke their contract. While they were in litigation with Talmy, they re-recorded "Circles" as "Instant Party", with Kit Lambert producing. Hence, the two versions, both sharing the title "Circles (Instant Party)". For amusing details concerning the Talmy breach of contract suit & settlement, see Anyway Anyhow Anywhere, The Complete Chronicle of The Who, 1958-1978, by Andy Neill & Matt Kent, Sterling Publishing 2005.

This track is yet another rebuke to those persons who claim that Mr Keith Moon had no drumming technique and didn't take any trouble about the tuning of his drums. Bloody codswallop, that!

    CHEERS!

    E.... M....

Stranger still, The Who have a completely different song called "Instant Party" that's sort of a spoof track...

  17. a.... ....

Moons cock is a right winger.

  18. L.... A....

the drumming on here is incredible!!

  19. G.... A....

This song literally makes me dizzy, lol! I love it!

  20. M.... ....

    Is John playing the Danelectro?

  21. Y.... W....

Keith Moon is the greatest rock drummer ever. jimi hendrix of the drumkit. wow!

  22. K.... S....

    Pete!!!! Roger!!! Keith!!!!! John!!!

  23. s.... ....

Has *nobody* else ever done a stereo remix of this.. ? That is, with the french horn or whatever horn entwhistle plays...I did one some years ago, mixing the reissued stereo version that was missing the horn with the mono version that had it.. unfortunately I have had several hard drive crashes since then and it's gone.. And I sure ain't gonna go through all that aggravation again, It was quite difficult. As , actually, all these remixes have been. So.. has anyone seen a stereo remix.. I mean , a legitimate one, not a quick "fake stereo" version...

  24. N.... I....

    Great vocals, great track

  25. F.... M....

    Great song! Great band!
Keith Moon, probably after John Bonham, the best drummer of the world, no doubt about that!

    F.... M....

Keith Moon is the special one!!

  26. v.... ....

@Todd Larson--this is the version I was referring to, except it seems to have been played at two fast a speed; whether this occurred in the transfer from analogue to digital format I have no idea....the uploader's turntable could have issues with it's belt or speed control or whatever...still a great version, though!

  27. e.... t....

~ Much more fun than the late period Stockhausen I've been immersed in! ~ come check out Gag-bit Vinyl in Bushwick NYC for early 80’s post punk/new wave ~ :-D

  28. J.... P....

I first come across this as The B side Of the Brunswick Single Legal matter. Then again as a reworked track on Ready Steady Who EP. This song was the song I must confess inspired me to pick up the guitar .. I was 14 at the time  my goodness.

  29. T.... L....

This may be the earliest example of psychedelic rock since the Animals' "House of the Rising Sun." Shows how ahead of their time The Who were in their heyday. 'Mod,' indeed!

    T.... L....

Exactly, I agree with you. This song is also REALLY loud and powerful for the time that it was released in; this song is really melodic, and yet, it's so loud and aggressive. You could even call this song a precursor to punk. The Who is so awesome.

    T.... L....

+Todd Larson too right mate! The other version, I believe the original with the prominent French horn (Substitute b-side on my Brunswick 72) is even more psychedelic--this version has a tougher feel but still, I agree with you!

    T.... L....

@georgeharrison70 Just wanted to add, 90% of Townshend's peers in the rock game would give their chording hands to write just ONE song as good as one of Pete's cast-offs. Been a Who fan since '87 (relative babby here), saw 'em on the "controversial" '89 Kids Are Alright anniversary tour with Pete in the perspex box; then later, the Hyde Park Quadrophenia gig. Anyway, I never really though of Townshend too highly as a guitarist at that time but the intervening years have convinced me of his genius on the old six-string. ONE-NOTE GUITAR SOLOS RULE!

  30. p.... ....

The picture for this video shows The Who´s first album. "My Generation".
"Circles" are not on this album.
It appears originally first on an EP called "Ready Steady Who".
( but not this version ).

    p.... ....

    See the Deluxe version.

    p.... ....

    +mrgb1965,
yes,it's from my generation deluxe version.

  31. R.... P....

Les Fleurs De Lys anyone? Great cover of this song

    R.... P....

Circles was written by Pete Townsend ... it was covered by the Fleur de Lys ...

    R.... P....

    Actually a better version ....

    R.... P....

@David Andrews its great but dosnt have the relentless beauty of the who ,moon ,entwistle, ...

    R.... P....

    @Sth LDN QPR

Better in production terms, FDL's version. But the thing about the Who's version is that it's gritty and tense in some ways. So I can agree with your point about the beauty of it.

    R.... P....

@David Andrews Gritty and tense ... you summed it up !

  32. t.... ....

This song has a confusing history. I put Pete's demo, the EP version, something called "Instant Party" that might be the same as this one, something else called "Instant Party Mixture" and two cover versions in my Townshend playlist. Still haven't sorted it all out..

  33. s.... ....

The ending of this always reminds me of the ending of "I want to hold your hand"...only harder edged.

    s.... ....

    Yes, same quarter note triplets

  34. T.... ....

In everything I do I think of you

  35. C.... D....

keith moon isn't even 19 yet at the time of this release.

    C.... D....

And he's still the greatest thing since sliced bread :)

  36. T.... O....

it's a shame this song song didn't top the UK Charts

  37. W.... F....

Keith's drumming! Hell, I'm green with envy!

  38. W.... F....

We all need one, man. Best -- W

  39. B.... ....

Round and round and round like a fool I go,,,,
Circles Leading me back to you,,,
    Love this Track,,,,

  40. S.... K....

Great song, but I like Pete's version better off scoop.Zelda is another great song off of Scoop.

  41. W.... F....

The Who -- as I want to remember them. Happy birthday, Pete (May 19). Thanks, Little Steven.

  42. d.... d....

The Who and The Beatles were two great band. Zeus and Poseidon, just like in the mythology.

  43. g.... ....

1965? Huh, what do ya know. Such an ahead of its time song. The rhythm section on this is excellent.

  44. j.... ....

You know that Wikipedia article about The Who "Rarities"? Well, I, for one, would really f*cking want to get that album.

  45. J.... S....

This is from 1965? Huh....hasn't aged at all. John Entwistle is a bass God.

  46. p.... l....

beatles the bass and drums are louder than any beatles song ,the who songs were the blueprint for rock and hard rock - punk &metal . remember the marshall stack . .Entwistles thrash bass solo on my generation 15 odd years before thrash was invented the who was well ahead of its time .

  47. m.... b....

    This is my escape song!!

  48. G.... ....

Pretty good, sounds a bit like them Beatle dudes.

  49. r.... ....

    Kick ass old WhO tune...

  50. M.... ....

    Superior music at every turn.

  51. a.... ....

@1962drob they sounded alot better in 1965 than in the 70s

    a.... ....

asszzes they have seriously kick ass music in both decades. The amount of shows and songs they did from 64-78..... They did today's rock band equivalent of 40 years worth of work in 14 years and it was all a million times better than anything that's played today....ROCK GODS!

  52. B.... ....

    Excellent...

  53. a.... b....

1 thing mods still cant like, curly red or ginger hair lol, not my words daultry's in an interview. lol

  54. f.... ....

  56. L.... ....

  57. ".... M....

The Who sounded a lot different in 1965 then they did in the '70's.

  58. h.... ....

    100% Killer...no filler.

  59. C.... G....

@stOOpid68 kickin ass for closer to fifty years now

  60. p.... ....

The actual cover showed for this youtube clip is the who`s first album, which doesnt contained "Circles". Furthermore the BEST version ever of this track are to be found on an EP called "Ready steady who". Far better than this version.

  61. B.... ....

I love The Who so much! More than I love Beatles and rolling stones together >.<

Circles, my head is going round in circles
My mind is caught up in a whirlpool, draggin' me down.

Time will tell if I'll take the homeward track
Dizziness will make my feet walk back, walk right back to you...

  62. G.... P....

Every time i listen to this song (and I do a lot!) It gets better. All vocals, all instruments are perfect!

  63. R.... ....

Keiths drum work is superb on this outing ... one of my WHO faves.

  64. r.... ....

I think Keith Moon makes this song work. It seems like everybody is just following his lead.

  65. S.... H....

    great song

  66. D.... ....

someone please dig up a live film clip of the who playing this song.

  67. M.... N....

I think this song was one of the best on the album. I think its so underrated and should've been a greatest hit

  68. A.... ....

anyone else think a number one spot, or at least top 5 should've seen this song? its great.

  69. c.... ....

Yes..its the one from the Ready steady Who ep....if you look at Related Videos i have posted it

    Jim

  70. c.... ....

theres another version on the Ready Steady Who ep which was used as the flip of Substitute on a few early copies...then ihe title was changed to Instant party..that was quickly withdrawn and replaced by Waltz for a pig...you couldnt move i 1966 for Who singles...a legal matter for sure

    Jim

  71. m.... b....

    timeless clasic

  72. D.... P....

MAXIMUN R'N'B FOR SURE! WE ARE MODS!

  73. w.... ....

Just read the sleeve notes off of an old tape i have kicking around called Twos Missing. John entwistle commented that this was supposed to be the B side for Substitute and they changed the name to instant party to avoid a legal row with an ex producer. It didnt work and in the end was replaced with waltz with a pig which they brought from the graham bond organisation

  74. R.... M....

This song's proper title is "Circles". ("Instant Party" was a title that was invented by the record label). This is the original mono mix, which has the French horn part. The 2002 Shel Talmy stereo mix removes the horns, and also has a couple slightly different vocal parts. There's also an alternate mono mix on the 2008 Japan "My Generation Box" (it's basically the same as the original mono mix but the fingerpicked guitar solo at the end is very prominent).

  75. D.... ....

the guitar @ 3:02 is just great! short hook that KO's the listener

  76. S.... ....

    awesome song

  77. s.... ....
