Who, The - Had Enough Lyrics

I've had enough of bein' nice
I've had enough of right and wrong
I've had enough of tryin' to love my brother

I've had enough of bein' good
And doin' everything like i'm told I should
If you need a lover, you'd better find another

Life is for the living
Takers never giving

Suspicion takes the place of trust
My love is turning into lust
If you get on the wrong side of me you better run for cover

I've had enough of bein' trodden on
My passive days are gonna be long gone
If you slap one cheek, well, I ain't gonna turn the other

Life is for the living
Takers never giving

Fooling no one but ourselves
Good is dying

Here comes the end
Here comes the end of the world

I'm gettin' sick of this universe
Ain't gonna get better; it's gonna get worse
And the world's gonna sink with the weight of the human race

Hate and fear in every face
I'm gettin' ready and I've packed my case
If you find somewhere better, can you save my place?

Fooling no one but ourselves
Love is dying

Here comes the end
Here comes the end
Here comes the end of the world

Who, The Had Enough Comments
  1. Albert Mojica,Jr.

The Who almost if not had to end here. There, in their own lyrical content, stated such. See: Goodbye Sister Disco. AMJ

  2. fern Haloo

This reminds me of Bruce Haack - Incantation and not sure why?

  3. donald drysdale

yes, this tune particularly displays how the who seemed to be the perfect vehicle for moon's style-- he refused to keep to the groove all the time like Townsend attempted to get him to do. lyrically, there are probably many that would accuse it of negativity, however, I'm glad to see there's some here who think it's just realistic

  4. juan gomez

  14. freedomisnocrime

  16. freedomisnocrime

The coward media scum never play this on the radio

  17. freedomisnocrime

Some stupid, castrated German music journalist once called the who are you album a work of monumental meaninglessness. He was right with the monumental. No other band has tried something like this.

  18. joe limongelli

    roger keime

i love this album but whos next is a literal best of the who.

  35. Thorum13

So you post a song that is not yours, not performed by you, not written by you and you run advertisements on it so you can make money off the artist's work. What a scumbag you are StingWhoStones. A true scumbag.

  36. Jennifer Felan

I heard this song on an episode of WKRP In Cincinnati. It was a Veterans Day episode called "The Airplane Show" where Les Nessman and his fellow army veteran friend are flying a military airplane. Hearing this song makes me want to go out and take a flight on a Red Baron airplane in the sky. Love it!!!

  37. Paul Gardner

    Music to fight to

  38. AccurateCrabLegs

I was driving around blasting this earlier in my car and rocking out so much that I didn't hear the ambulance siren behind me!

  39. john172867

Can you imagine being in the studio when they recorded this number?

  40. john172867

This song wouldn't be the same without the instrumental between 2:32 and 3:35. Never tire of this song.

  41. brian3474

    freedomisnocrime

Wrong. The ox must be nr 2 also

  49. john172867

This song is on a different level IMO, particular the melody and instrumental from 2:32 - 3:35.
One of my favorites by The Who.

  50. Chris Hurley

Wow, not sure if it was intentionally but ASIA's "Here comes The Feeling" sounds like a total ripoff...

    ClassicTVMan1981X

I also read this song influenced not only Van Halen's "Jump" but also Daryl Hall & John Oates's "Kiss on My List."

    Bruce Klefas

Asia did rip off this song.

    Gus Venables

@ClassicTVMan1981X And possibly Genesis' "Turn It On Again" - maybe not quite as obvious but I can definitely hear a similarity.

    ClassicTVMan1981X

@Gus Venables Yes, I agree with you on that!

  51. Travers Grondin

I quit my job..what about you ? here comes the end of the world

  52. John McDaniel

This song, along with 905, was supposed to be a part of John's own rock opera, similar to Pete's Lifehouse. Had Enough and 905 are the only songs that were taken off the shelves for Who Are You. The rest of the songs are still nowhere to be found.

  53. wayne via

  63. Terry Smithee

As soon as the needle hit that record was hooked for life on the Who. Changed my life maybe even saved it.

  64. John W

I THINK THAT THIS AND OTHER ENTWISTLE PENNED SONGS ON THIS ALBUM, HE WAS REALLY HITTING HIS STRIDE AS A SONG WRITER. ALSO THIS ALBUM IS MIXED VERY WELL, YOU CAN HEAR EVERY INSTRUMENT.

    Christine Chagaris

Actually it's my fave Who song.

    freedomisnocrime

It is the best track on that great album!

  68. Keith Sanderson

In 1970 The Who were the third biggest band in the World. Pete Townsend is one of the greatest songwriters of the, 60's and 70's he writes his own songs and they all have meaning. I Can't Explain. Pictures of Lily, I Can See For Miles are some of my favourites. But in 1971 Who's Next was one of my top 10 albums ever Baba Oh Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, and Won't Get Fooled Again are some of the greatest songs ever.

  69. ROB-IN-PHILLY

Townsend is such a genius...Not that the rest of the band isn't but; he wrote nearly every who song...Keith's last album...RIP; ox and mooney...

    Studs Ramrod

    Entwhistle wrote this one.

    John W

godbluffvdgg This a john entwistle song.

  73. Arthro92

My favorite episode. Not easy finding it with the original soundtrack, though.

    Clemson Legette

That s when I first heard it

    Jennifer Felan

Clemson Legette same here. This song makes me want to go on a journey in the sky on a Red Baron plane.

  86. Paul Grubbs

Keith Moon- Not To Be Taken Away
    Gone but never forgotten.

    david johanson

Paul Grubbs made me cry. You noticed that "not to be taken away" so prophecy. Choked up. 😥

    High Number

John Smith 32 in one night is worse.

    High Number

david johanson It is one of those weird/creepy things in rock history.

    Kevin Gonzales

    Paul Grubbs best drummer ever

    Bob Wolenski

@John Smith Poor Keith? The moron took 32 pills, what did he expect?

  87. JDSly1

Not to be confused with "I've Had Enough" from Quadrophenia.

    MsChris402

quadrophenia was a conceptual album but   who are you is more single oriented.

    Greaser Bub the Original

you are not kidding about that took me 2 days to find this track ;];];];];]

    BubbaZen10

Oddly enough, both are my favorites.  I really have had enough of living too.

    james vey

    david johanson

JDSly1 really, hmmmmmm i should know. Let me checks this out. Love this song, especially John contribution of horns.

  88. usmcfutball

The brass and strings remind me of the "sound" from the album Jesus Christ Superstar. Though that offering lacked a certain Mr. Moon. Love the Ox!

  89. Lisa Moreno

"I love this song, it's so defiant. To bad it really never made it to a " live" set list. " LIFE IS FOR THE LIVING."

    Lisa Moreno

LeftMeNot Yep Their is a beauty to the song and yet you can feel the anger rebellion cocky attitude that drips from this Great WHO song - The Who where always great at mixing emotions through their songs and translated great to the stage. THE WHO

  90. timkjazz

    Matt Neff

    Rich Oliver bull shit

    2126crazyhorse

    love this song

  93. ShattyMcPants

prophetic of what's going on with our society today...

    Johnny Macalvee

How so? But, maybe you are correct....

    BubbaZen10

I always wonder if the world sinking with too many people is actually possible somehow gravitationally speaking.
For me it is prophetic, because i really have 'bout had enough. Perhaps that mood is prophetic for the world. Eventually what happens if EVERYONE has just had e fucking nough at the same time??

    BubbaZen10

Best thing was Keith's apocalyptic drumming.

  94. alan murr

I love that picture of this album. Two guys who know how to use all of that electric stuff behind them to make such great music, second to nobody else, one guy who knows how to be the best drummer in the world and Roger who like Peter knows how to be a good SHOWMAN, and Roger can really sing no matter how fast or slow the tempo, Roger is as good as they come!

    celticwolff

Ironic that the photographer had Keith sit in the chair to hide his paunch and that is why the message on the chair made the cover.

    Douglas Murphy

    the who rules awesome album

  95. AssinnippiJack

I remember upon release in '78 I thought "Damn they're getting old!" Loved the album for it's raw energy & new reach. I had the 8-Track for the car & the vinyl for the home.

  96. AlectravianJF96

According to Wikipedia this is a Hard rock song.....why? This sounds New Wave to me! It is New Wave! Don't believe in Wikipedia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    David Theisen

AlectravianJF96 no just plain ol fashioned rock n roll
